I said  that there may be a price in the near future. And there is one. In another post I suggested that the backer 1.000.000 should get a "Completionist" package..... Well, he got a Sabre instead:
"Edenstar, Pikes-zen, we’re going to go ahead and give you each a brand new Sabre to explore the ‘Verse with. Enjoy! "

Again ... no prize was announced in advance ...

Your point was that people created many extra accounts for themselves over the last years (!) trying to get a prize and to be able to manipulate forum polls.

    >>>>I think it is fake number>>>

Talk to the thousands of fans at various gaming shows like PAX or GamesCon attending Star Citizen events.  In US (multiple), UK, Australia, Germany etc.

    Have fun
    Defeated by your own statement.

So you probably see thousands and expect there to be actual millions?

I know it's ridiculous to expect to see a million fans at their conventions, not everyone would, could, should go to these Cons.
So why is it not equally ridiculous to expect (and tout this number) that there are "1 million Star Citizens", when brainwashed fantards like some people will simply make multiple new account -> buy a starter pack -> buy a shitton of conceptual art for the sake of supporting their religion?
What's to say that CR's marketing-specialist-crock isnt padding the numbers just to show a larger fancy number for number's sake?

    [mod edit]

You DO know that forum polls are entertaining and enlightening for us forum users but have no direct influence on CIG's decisions, do you not ?  And there are certainly no "prices" for "Winning a poll" ;-)

Wow how convenient to spout this when you need to undermine that guy's comment about sock puppets casting votes on their forum.

But all the other times when it is convenient for you, you will use the very same polls to show how the developers are listening to their "investors", as you have called the backers over and over again.

So you probably see thousands and expect there to be actual millions?

--> I see thousands visiting SC  and thousands visiting other games booth. We know from Steam statistics how many people play certain games. From Steam and the amount of people you see at a gaming convention you can get a good idea what percentage of people comes to a con. But hey, i am sure you think that Steam is faking all those numbers too.

I know it's ridiculous to expect to see a million fans at their conventions, not everyone would, could, should go to these Cons.

    ---> Yes, its ridiculous.

So why is it not equally ridiculous to expect (and tout this number) that there are "1 million Star Citizens",

--> Because there are other games with equally large or even larger communities ... and about the same number of people visiting a booth at a gaming convention as you saw at SC events. I encourage you to visit such a convention from time to time. No one doubts that there are a few million people playing Counterstrike or World of Tanks. Because ... as you already said ... its ridiculous.

when brainwashed fantards like some people will simply make multiple new account -> buy a starter pack -> buy a shitton of conceptual art for the sake of supporting their religion?

--> Sure, there ARE people with multiple accounts. But amongst the Star Citizen backers I know personally only 1/3 have more than one account (and many of those have these 25 $ accounts we got last year at X-mas ... usually reserved for friends and family, people that are not interested in being a pilot with a ship but more interested in being a marine or gunner on their friends ship). 2/3 have only one account (like me), most of them also only one ship (also like me).

What's to say that CR's marketing-specialist-crock isnt padding the numbers just to show a larger fancy number for number's sake?

--> Ask the reliable international gaming journalists about their opinion if CIG is faking the numbers.   And no, i do NOT mean The Escapist ! ;-)

Wow how convenient to spout this when you need to undermine that guy's comment about sock puppets casting votes on their forum.

But all the other times when it is convenient for you, you will use the very same polls to show how the developers are listening to their "investors", as you have called the backers over and over again.

---> I have quoted and posted polls from the official forums to show the opinions of backers. NOT the opinion or plans of developers.

--> Examples:  I posted a poll on Should CIG disclose its financial data?  (Vast majority said NO). I posted a poll on plans to standardize refunds (Vast majority said NO).   etc.

You DO know that CIG are paying you to do a better job at forum marketing, right?

--> Nope, I do not know that.
--> As stated before in other threads: I do not work for CIG. Nor any of its contractors. I do not work in the gaming or marketing industry at all. I am not getting paid to post on mmorpg.com  (by anyone).

You first go re-read whatever you posted in reply to my post Erillion.

Because I want you to point out the exact places where you used the phrases:
    "I see thousands..."
    "...about the same number..."
    "I know personally..."
    "Ask...their opinion..."
    "...opinions of backers..."

For someone who harps on about Proof, you provide barely anything more than spin theatrics verbatim from CIG's PR machine, clouded by your personal tint of rosy red fanboy-employee-ism, under this thin garb of "proof".

And when something like The Escapist, posts an article which they say have been vetted through the proper channels and are reporting on the Ex/Current employee's actual accounts on the subject while safeguarding the whistleblowers' current and future prospects in the gaming industry, people like you tear into their article demanding signed, attested and corroborated evidence along with DNA samples and brain mapping, which cannot be disputed by anyone: from God's mouthpiece, aka the Pope, to the devil's mouthpiece, The Tonald Drump.
But when self-deluded fans go on posting pages upon pages of the Chris(t) Rober()s holy PR speech, then they dont need to provide any proof to show that the religion business is boooooooooming?

And you are asking me to ask  the "reliable" international gaming journalists, to see if CIG is cooking the books on the numbers?
Wouldnt they only be considered "reliable" in CRTown by fanboys/employees like you only if they side with CR's divine perspective?
And please do tell me, what books are CIG showing these "reliable" international gaming journalists on accounting that they are steadfast-refusing to show the faithful masses of "backers" like Tom, Dick and Harry?

And you know that you dont want anyone to search through your post history. Because then you`ll end up eating crow for all those times that you used those polls to show that 'CIG are listening to their "backers" '. GO start whitewashing your post history before someone with a little bit of patience comes along, digs up those posts and calls you out on your bullshit.

And for your sake Im hoping that you are Ben Lesnick or perhaps even The Man, Robers Chirst, posting under an "alter-ego" over here where you can be a completely different person just because in your head, you think you are. Hell, Im sure you have heard of that internet idiot who apparently throws on his pepsi battle hat and with a instantaneous mental transformation, becomes the dreaded Internet Warlord and Scourge of all things Coca. In the narrow chance that you arent the aforementioned, you will need some serious help when this thing goes belly up.

Better if you change the title of this thread to "I think..." or "My opinion is that..." or "My saviour told me to say that..." - " there are 1 million Star Citizens >[x^S]"

Having so much fun, I ended up having nuf.

    *** stuff ***
    >>>>clouded by your personal tint of rosy red fanboy-employee-ism, under this thin garb of "proof".>>>

So i mark my opinions, personal observations and communications as personal and do not declare it the one and only universal truth. Sue me. I differentiate between subjective personal statements and quoting external sources. Citing references and separating that from personal opinion is one of the first things one learns when writing scientific articles or technical reports. It helps to do that in forum posts as well.

    >> posts an article which they say have been vetted through the proper channels >>>

You mean when someone publishes a clickbait piece in a hurry because they know their "sources" are shopping around their dubious information to as many news outlets as they can reach (and did not realize that their sources were being turned down by everyone else because the other news outlets considered the information fishy). In such a hurry that IMHO  they deliberately ignored the reply from the other side  (SPAM folder my ass !) to fan the conflict for even more clickies. And if that was not enough, they shot themselves out of the water completely with a crazy vblog by the author shortly thereafter.

    >>> And you are asking me to ask  the "reliable" international gaming journalists, >>>

International gaming journalists have access to game studios. They have seen many gaming companies, large and small, successful and struggling. They do not need to see the books to recognize the signs of potential problems. They have learned to read between the lines of marketing speech.  Reliable gaming journalists do their homework first before writing articles.

    >>> And you know that you dont want anyone to search through your post history. >>>

I cannot remember having forced anyone away from my post history at gunpoint. But hey, Bill Clinton did not remember a lot of things too... so maybe ....

    >>> GO start whitewashing your post history >>>

    You do that often ?  I don't.

    >>> And for your sake Im hoping that you are Ben Lesnick or perhaps even The Man, Robers Chirst, posting under an "alter-ego" over here  >>>

Hey, they must be cyborgs.  While live on stage they simultaneously post here on mmorpg.com as "Erillion"  in the thread about the livestream  .. without the need of a computer or keyboard ...  in front of all the people. Those bastards !! Thats what I call multi-tasking ! Oh HEY, they did it twice. Lets not forget GamesCon 2015 in Germany.

One thing for sure if the game fails it will hurt a lot of people and crowdfunding. It may even make it harder for anyone to release/make a MMO again. We will end up at the mercy of the big boys, EA/Blizzard, ect. But you Erillion will go down in history as the one person that keep spreading false advertisements. So at least for your sake I hope the game does get made at least. Being a good or great game is a whole other issue.

I can't disagree with you on the cash and ego side of things. On a positive note, the ego is what will drive a release, right? That's why something will end up going out the door.

On the cost of things, it's large, but not that large for what they're trying to do. I see people talking about mismanagement of funds, but then look at SWTOR which spent $200 million on it, or GTAV which spent $150 million developing it and $92 million isn't that much.

A game will go out, the real question is whether it will be a $100 million game or not.

The word "ego" is actually a good thing. I believe the negative connotation that people are trying to refer to would be "egotism"

It's not a trick, there's nothing to bite.  I don't understand the anger coming from some people over what they term as ego.  There's something underneath that that isn't being stated when people are talking about this.  Lots of people name their family businesses after themselves, and that's basically what Roberts' venture is so far.  Large corporations are often named after the founder as well, but that doesn't really attract this kind of ire.

Maybe it has something to do with that instinct that a lot of people have to pull their fellow crab back down into the bucket.  Once a fellow crab is big enough, it is no longer in the same level of the hierarchy and is not fellow.  Then it gets special exemptions and doesn't have the same social rules applied in people's heads.  There's a lot of low instinctual behavior going on that people don't even realize, forming into two tribes and attacking.

There are a lot of assumptions about "sides", attacks on constructed figureheads, back and forth among the hoi polloi.  People putting their hopes and dreams in the ability to live in a virtual world (probably because their future in the other world is uncertain or uncompelling, through no fault of theirs), people who want to destroy a video game for various reasons, people trying to make a fast buck off others by reselling virtual items.

It's a circus that really has nothing to do with just making a video game.  Everyone else brought that baggage with them and are imputing it on the small company that is making a product.  Some people think it's drama, but a lot of people find the whole circus annoying.  And nobody likes clowns.

    Come on now

There isn't any kind of common sense allowed in these types of discussions. It would just make things so boring.

What's this constant reference to "ego" all about?  Some people seem constantly offended by something about ego, but it doesn't really make sense without the context.
Ego is exactly the right word. There is a lot about SC that strikes me as one man's vanity project.
