The game requires you to be geared most of the time. For instance you need to be geared for Red Raid,Goldtron (Gold stage in Ultron) or Cosmic trial for Midtown.

Gearing can be tough but it is extremely flexible and you can pick what you think suitable judging by the diverse varieties offered by the game.

Uniques:
U can find uniques by raising your Rare Item FInd(RIF) . They drop anywhere and have a shiny light with location indicator like

Uniques can be divided into specific hero unique or any hero unique.
Specific hero unique for Spider-Man:

Any hero unique:

Try to buy the recipe in Odin Palace using Hero/Protector Commendation in order to raise the grade of your uniques to 66 and 69 level like this

After equipping five 69 level uniques you get the achievement of metal gear solid !

You can also exchange duplicate uniques in crafter for a unique. They also drop from MM boxes. There are also boss specific uniques like the spear unique from Man Ape.If you get the uniques below level 60,fear not as you will be able to raise them to level 60 using your crafter.

Legendaries:
You buy legendaries using odin marks from enchanter (with exception of the event legendary Big Kahuna and Odin Pot of Cassidy).
There are level 70 and level 80 legendaries (which cost 300 and 1000 odin marks respectively). You need to level them to level 5 to fully utilise them.

If you have bought the wrong legendary,u can refund lvl 70 legendaries for 300 odin but note:for lvl 80 legendary you can only get 800 odin marks in return so choose it wisely.
For my melee heroes i equip them with Gungnir or Axe while Trident for Iceman summoner. So pick any that suits you ! :)
For a full list:You can refer to the compilation at http://marvelheroes.info/items/legendaries/#0-25-1-0

Insignias:
An example of insignia and what it does-

For Avengers Insignia, the hero must be affliated with that team.Like wise for X-Men,Fantastic 4,Guardians,Marvel Knights.Shield insignia is for everyone.A hero like Spider-Man can choose insignia between Fantastic Four,Shield and Avengers.
You can upgrade your insignia to cosmic insignia with Moondragon using cosmic upgrade token purchasable using Cosmic Worldstone obtained in event.

It is preferably you get insignia level 60 and have great critical or brutal rate/damage rating.
A complete list of insignias:http://marvelheroes.info/items/insignias/#0-25-1-0

Relics:
You can pick up relic. They are stackable up to 1000 per hero. But note:the more you stack, you get more diminished benefit in return.
I prefer to stack Atlantis because of the critical rate and Lemuria for the health upon attack damage. Also ARMOR alternate relic for Iceman summoner. But you are free to stack any relic.

Try exchange 4 duplicate uniques in crafter for a random stack of 50 relics.
For a complete list please refer to http://marvelheroes.info/items/relics/#0-25-1-0

Uru Forged:

You can pick up the uru forged (go for level 50 uru) and enchant them in the enchanter. You need to level your enchanter or get a recipe from bosses or buy from Moondragon. For instance:

After u get the crafting recipe unstoppable force from Juggernaut the boss, you can free to ask your enchanter to learn it and thus you can craft as many unstoppable force uru forged for your heroes, provided you have the runes specified in the recipe.
I use God of Mischief for my Iceman and Power Doop for my Ant-Man.
Keep an eye for the runes there are some rare ones like Surtur Rune,Odin Rune and so on.Alternatively you can trade them for blessings.

Blessings:
You have 4 artifact slots at level 60.Try bless them with 100 odin marks per artifact.

The most popular one is Hela as it gives brutal strike

If you give the wrong blessing to the artifact, fear not you will be able to swap blessing between artifacts.

Starktech cube:
Aside from blessing you artifact, you can also slot your artifact with starktech cube provided the artifact has a slot.Like this:

just drag the power cube into the artifact. It adds one rank to a power specified in the cube.

Costume cores:
U may come across many costume cores like the adamantium alloy costume core as below. Each hero has a specified group of cores he can use.Wolverine can use adamantium alloy only.

Pick any core you like but i like regenerate 25% health and spirit upon medikit + health upon attack damage.
For a complete list of cores and which core is bound to which heroes,refer http://marvelheroes.info/items/costume_cores/#0-25-1-0

Pets:
Vaporise any green, blue, purple, cosmic gear to feed your pet and they will add stats to you. Also try feed them with uniques. They will become like this

If you dont like the affixes, try reset it using crafting elements like

Medallions:
Get a cosmic medallions if you can.Farming them at cosmic terminals is a good start and you will get lvl 60 medallions.
They look like this

For the list of medallions do check out http://marvelheroes.info/items/medallions/#0-25-1-0

Lastly, the most crucial is to have as much Omega Points as possible up to 7500 max.
An omega point is blue in colour and you are advised to farm them using level 60 heroes with boost during events.
There is an indicator to indicate the omega point so be sure to trace them and pick them up.
You can allocate omega points to your play style and needs, for instance for my iceman summoner i like add to intelligence and also summoned ally damage. If you wrongly allocated, fear not cause you will be able to reset the omega points allocation (power points as well)

For a complete list of allocation of omega points see http://marvelheroes.info/builds/omega/

Disclaimer:I created this guide for http://forums.mmorpg.com/ on 3rd October 2015 .I provided a lot of links to marvelheroes.info for reference purposes but I own nothing in marvelheroes.info and by no means associated to them. But it is a good website to refer as there are also a lot of good builds for heroes created by players so check them out ! :) Pictures are for illustration.
