A class that can manipulate time.

A spear and shield class. For every class based medieval fantasy game that doesn't have one.

I would be the only DDoS class and I will extort the whole game.

An animal trainer class.  I want to be able to go out into the open world and capture animals to train to be my pets, or to sell as guard animals.

An illusionist thief class.  I want to play a sneaky little thief who also has access to some illusion/obfuscation spells.  Use an invisibility spell to break into a ground floor window.  Use a light footed spell to sneak around the house silently.  Cast an illusion of a ghost standing on the stairs when the owner wakes up for a midnight snack.

Yes, i was about to say the same. It would annoy the hell out of other players and cause tons of irritation, annoyance and griev.
Putting people into short time loops in which suddenly stuff repeats to them, skipping, resetting and otherwise manipulating scenarios by shifting time and motions.
If you had a battleground full of them, chaos and servercrashes would ensue.

Of course it could never work out in a multiplayer environment, but the idea is crazy.
Is there any singleplayer RPG that contains something like that?

A temporal mage could work with slow / haste spells, delay debuffs. It would most likely be a support class. Slow time, stop time, haste, distort, time shield etc.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

A DoT/Debuff class. Think Wotlk Warlock.

The class would use DoT spells to debuff targets, and depending on which order you applied the DoTs it would debuff a certain stat. The longer you maintained the DoTs, the stronger the debuff would become, up to a maximum of 25%.

So ... if you applied x, y, z dots on a target it would reduce their defense.
If you applied z, y, x dots it would lower their offense.
If you applied y, z, x dots it would lower their healing.

    Etc... you get the point.

Well, there are plenty of classes you never see in MMOs who tend to stick with the old tired AD&D classes.
A class do need unique mechanics and you should avoid to just mirror classes like many MMOs have done in the past.

Certain classes are rather common in popular culture, like Musketeers, ninjas, barbarians, witches and so on.

Then there is race specific classes, dopplegangers (as earlier suggested), vampires, werewolfs, nymphs, liches and such. Race specific classes did excist in some earlier MMOs but have been gone a long time.

I'd take standard classes and then make each class be their own story i.e. you don't get spells or abilities you have a series of class quests / tasks that get you your class spells/abilities.

    For example

    necromancer
    - search a crypt avoiding wandering mobs to find a skull that will become your familiar and teach you your "speak with the dead" ability
    - find your "summon skeleton" spell written on the bones of animated skellies i.e. kill skellies to get the spell fragments
    - quest for a spell carved onto the wall at the bottom of an ancient tomb guarded by...

    pet class
    - you don't get upgraded pets as you level; you level as you hunt for items / knowledge to upgrade your pets

    ranger
    - you don't automatically get animal mobs not attacking you; you get a technique or series of quests that simulates studying a particular animal mob so that type of mob doesn't attack you (and which automatically extends to any group you're in)

    etc

    #

a lot of the Elder Scrolls class names conjure up interesting class types:
    - battle mage
    - spell sword
    - witch hunter
    - night blade (illusionist stealth class)

    #

a pet taming / breeding class like in SWG ? (forgotten the name, bioengineer?)

    #

my personal fave would be a supernatural detective class which utilized charm, disguise, divination, stealth type skills to collect the clues to solve mysteries with combat mostly at the end.

A class I would design would be a hybrid mage berserker.  Ranged spellcaster, inferior to DPS specialists, with medium armor, decent weapon skills, and melee enhancing magic.  Maybe a touch of stealth and crowd control.  And add in a bonus for movement speed and melee haste.

It would be useful in a group as utility person, pulling and picking off adds / runners.

    edit: typo

Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security.  I don't Forum PVP.  If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident.  When I don't understand, I ask.  Such is not intended as criticism.

I will start by saying no to ANY crowd control class, simple reason is it dumbs a game down to easy mode. Now in saying that,i don't mind having one spell for example FFXI sleep but it has to be on a long timer so it is not spammed, perhaps 5 minutes.

The best class i have seen has always been in FFXI,the RDM/Ninja combo was very intriguing,a skilled player could take on mobs solo that a group would struggle to take on,albeit very slowly. Also the Beastmaster class was an amazing design.

So if i were to start making a class/s i would look at those tow designs and tweak them, improve them and end up something very similar.
What i have been seeing in game/class design has been down right laughable, instead of creative ideas all i see are very silly gimmicks, like players jumping 50 feet in the air and coming down killing 10 mobs in one blow or archers firing a bow like it was a machine gun,Mage's again spamming flame attacks like they had a repeating revolver attached to their hands.Oh and players sliding in at super speeds to engage a mob, again just stupid silly ideas.

I would make classes that are versatile, group designed and have plausible ideas.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Not exactly new but I want my smarmy bureaucrat back from Anarchy Online. Loved how he was CC based and all about red tape :) . That was the coolest class with his suit, pistol and a briefcase and a mobster to call up when you needed help.

Combat medic from SWG is still my favorite class in any game. Ranged combat, heals, dots, control and the crafting that came with it was useful. It was a support class dream come true!

Temporal Mage sounds awesome actually. Sounds like the time of class that was in a game? cant remember
Dofus has the class Xelor, which has sort of a time space theme.  Their icon is an hourglass.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Druids are hardly originally from Wow, Everquest had a rather more interesting take on it. Latest game adding druid will be GW2 (for HoT), even though it is a speciality class fro rangers there. It is not an that uncommon MMO class even though it isn't as usual as warriors, pallys and rangers.

I would create a OracleSummoner. This class would be a pet summoning class. It could dual wield two pets at the same time. It would also be able to predict the other opponents moves but having the ability to intuitively counter attacks for a set time of course. This would be a mana class with relatively low Hp. The pets would be stronger then most classes being able to tank and beat other players one on one. The way to counter my class would be to kill me not the pets.
