Yes healers had been fun. I had a darkelf cleric, disc and blood mage, and a goblin shaman.

Apologies for Necro'ing this thread, but, if anyone misses Vanguard and would like to play once more, it is very well possible. Google Vanguard Emulator, the .net website that should be the first result is the community driven project to bring Vanguard back to life. The aim of the project is to return Vanguard as it was before the F2P changes, for free. As it stands, all the classes that were in the game prior to it's closure, are in the current iteration of the emulator and the development team has content from 1 to 30 with most class abilities functioning as intended. There are a few class mechanics/skills they are still working on that aren't fully implemented, but as an all volunteer team, they've accomplished a lot. As of now, the server is up 24/7 but the development team stresses that to play the game currently, it should be considered in "Alpha". I've leveled through Isle of Dawn on a Necromancer, and all the nostalgia of the game hasn't worn off. I just wish there were more current/active players to group up with and adventure with, as leveling solo is boring to me.

I loved my enchanter. I loved CCing and controlling the battlefield. I also loved being the puller in the team. Its this kind of play style that has me longing for Pantheon, where I will be playing a Bard or Enchanter. Playing the CCer in PvE is the biggest rush.

I have to say, this is running very well. I was on last night (back from a long vacation) and I have enjoyed my time here so far.

Blood Mage, Blood Mage, Blood Mage...oh and the crafting and diplomacy.
  • AdamantineAdamantine Member RarePosts: 5,085
I hated Diplomacy SO MUCH. Fortunately one just had to get the seven(?) card deck which made all further diplo rather simple, because you could just steal all points from the opponent while flooding him with points yourself.

I liked crafting much better, but damn was that an endlessly long grind in comparison. In retrospect I should have probably gotten 3 accounts and 3 collectors editions. Would have allowed me a total of six Silius bags and those made crafting so much easier, it was just riddiculous.

Ah well, in the end Vanguard failed anyway. I had leveled six crafters to 50, but now its all gone. I feel like a fool now, I should have rather done more adventuring instead.

I played Vanguard in Beta. There was nothing memorable to me about my character. That is part of why I never played the game when it launched.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Maybe it opened up later on? I really loved my Dread Knight but it became more interesting the higher it levelled.

To that point, it really was the world of VAnguard that was the star.

That was my main issue with Vanguard. And I speak only for myself.

EQ grabbed me from the first moment. I was was having fun on Day 1, Hour 1, Minute 1. The fun never stopped for me. Every level, it just got more awesome. And it was never dull to me.

Vanguard was different. I didn't enjoy the newbie experience at all (like watching paint dry), so I stopped playing (testing) it (after relaying my concerns). I felt like Vanguard was designed so that you have to "earn your fun," meaning fun will come later after you do a lot of unfun things. I am hoping that design element does not find its way into Pantheon. But hey, I realize I have always been in the minority on this view about Vanguard.
