Testing… Testing…

Following the AMA with TenTonHammer the Forged Chaos team revealed heavy testing had been refining their technical demo, now know as Demo Island, and went into detail on their progress:

So as most of you know from our recent AMA, we are working diligently on the technical demonstration, aka "demo island". What you might not know is that we've had a frenzy of activity behind the scenes the past two weeks. We've just finished an intense weekend of testing and recording, of which you can gain a peek at from the new screenshots. It's high time we let you all in on what's been accomplished!

Combat:

Something we didn't really show off during the AMA was combat. This was because we were under strict orders NOT to kill our guests! So what you didn't see in the AMA were the new weapons and armors that Gassy and Teddy worked so hard to implement for us. We now have three types of swords, four styles of shields, a dagger, and three new axes.

Even better than that are the new attacks that have been added. Before, basic combat consisted of a one style of attack along with blocking using the weapon or shield in you left and right hands. Now, depending on how you move your mouse when you attack, you'll swing the appropriate weapon either from the left or the right! Just imagine the combinations you can create with just those 6 options! You can block with a shield in your left hand while working around your opponents defenses with the sword in your right hand. Or you can dual-wield axes, alternating between parrying with one weapon and attacking to the left or right with the other to fake out your opponent!

Demo Island:

Demo Island is officially complete in its sculpting and construction. It has taken months of painstaking care and attention on the part of Brax, but now every inch of it is exactly how he wants it. It's a true monument to the future chaos and mayhem to come! We can hardly wait for you all to get lost in the rolling hills and dense jungle as many who have stepped foot there have before.

Design Updates:

After much consideration and discussion, changes have been made to how settlements are founded. The design updates have been added to the ToA Guide page.

Graphics:

In case you couldn't tell by the screenshots, we're using image based lighting. This gives us a greater realism to the lighting effects you see. We've tweaked the graphic fidelity, so that things look better no matter what graphical settings you choose to run. The torch holding seen in the AMA has been adjusted so that it is smoother and less jerky. We also have the male model up and running, along with an armored/non-armored appearances and two hair styles!

Also it is awesome to share with you all that, outside of a specific server-crashing bug that has since been patched, we haven't had a single server crash during nearly 20 hours of recording over the weekend! Our network code is doing fantastic under the load thus far, and we hope to add more connections in future recording/testing sessions. Stay tuned for more info on that from Brax!
