Hi everyone, welcome to my whining complain fest of a post.

In the real world, I get paid good money to test computer software for telecommunications companies who are making changes to them on a monthly basis. However, when I come home I don't expect to be a tester anymore, I want to relax and get lost in a world with my friends / family.

So far, my experience of ESO has been a run of mill / mediocre experience. Nothing about this game is mold breaking or even really all that new. Especially the part about it having quite a bit of defects. It's not at all uncommon for new MMO's these days to be released well in advance of what their own QA teams have probably wanted or even development for that matter. However, the business aspect of the companies are always pushing go go go let's get it out there, cause of course they're receiving the same pressure from investors etc.

So, instead of coming home from work to play, I'm coming home from work to work some more. Except, instead of being paid to do this work... I'm actually paying them to do it for them... I have had several quests already that are literally broken, you cannot finish them and this completely kills the quest line. Which leads to the next major problem... You start falling behind in levels and soon you're trying to do quests 3 or 4 levels higher than you are at an extreme level of difficulty.

This wouldn't be so bad, but the mob exp and the exp from pvp is FAR less than that of quests. Keep in mind that after about 20 hours of time played in the last 2 days, I've only managed to make it to level 13... So I'm really ticked off atm about the quality of the product I purchased and am really hoping that some fixes are soon to come.

I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but I'm sorely disappointed.

I hear ya Waddy  I was a bit miffed that their QA team missed so much bug wise in quests.  I am sure within the coming week we hopefully if they are like any other mmo company get some fixes out there for us because as you said it becomes very annoying when 30 percent of the quests you do are broken or bugged and either have to try and wait it out or just plain overlook the quest all together.

Yeah very theme park mmo here but still fun and visually does well. Lets just hope the  dev team are working on fixes as well ad in the future opening the world up more and get rid of soul gems! lol.

You are doing it wrong. Some guy managed to get to level 50 in one day.

There must be some way to level besides questing.

Meh, to each their own, I'm having fun right now since the quests are a bit more lengthy/though out than the usual kill 10 rats variety. I have doubts about end game but there seems to be enough to at least keep my attention for a couple of months. After that there should be some new PS4 games to hold my attention until we have more EQN details.

I've just put in a request for a full refund and the closure of my account on the grounds of a faulty product. I'm hoping that ZMO don't try to shirk out of it, although other publishers and developers have in the past (although never successfully).

My gripe isn't just with the state of the game, but the game in general. Yes, the constant bugs in various quest chains as well as several "falling through the floor" moments inspired me to ask for the refund; I'm fed up of playing broken games now. That's not the entire story, however...

TESO is an average game at best in my opinion, and certainly not worth the money being asked by ZMO. Give it a year, and it will be F2P, but even then it's not likely to go down as well as (for example) Rift or Aion. They really should have released without a sub-fee, rather than making people pay a monthly just so they can QA their content for them.

Really, really, really disappointed. I'd give the game 6/10 in its current form, if I cared.

Why not wait for reviews before buying a game?  Instead you preordered it with the most expensive edition.

Being in the biz you're in, one would think that you would be a little more empathetic to the process. I mean, it's not like the telecommunications industry would ever launch a product or service 100% glitch/bug free...

Because at some point we collectively decided that game developers should be exempt from laws governing the quality of products at retail, as well as laws enshrining the rights of consumers to ask for refunds when those products are faulty.

That was sarcasm. We didn't. They've just had it good for the past decade. [mod edit] They released a faulty product, they get what they deserve for doing that. In my case, I'm asking for a refund and have no intention of playing the game again.

This is why there is early access. If you want it to be bug free (or at least all  the quests work), wait for version 1.2

Wait a month or two, THEN buy and play this game.

So far, ever bugged quest I have found, I have got it to work by logging off and back to get a new instance.

This game is not your job, if its NOT fun, STOP... and move onto something else. Do not come here to complain because no one really cares. I don't understand why you are doing something in your spare time that your not enjoying and keep DOING it.

I don't like sailing, so I never would, I would not go onto a sailing forums and complain about sailing tho. But you don't like this game but you keep playing it. Do something else for a while. There are thousands of other games out there.

I dunno, to me this is a matter of the way the world should be and the way the world is.....

We should be able to get a finished polished product for the money we spend.

    - Yet -

For the 15 years I've played mmo's, the smooth polished game upon release has been the exception rather than the rule, and even with the most polished of them, there were still start up blues.

So I've learned that's the way the world is.

Therefore, when I buy an mmo I feel I have two choices:

    - Buy the product warts and all, go in knowing it I will suffer launch time blues

    - or -

    - Wait a few months and give the game time to polish up (after assuring it moved in the correct direction)

Because that's the way the world is.

It shouldn't be that way, but it is.

So, therefore, at the end of the day, my tagline holds true; be an informed consumer,  because the world is different than the way it should be. Advertisers are hired to sell a product - therefore it is up to the buyer to be ware.

I don't have sympathy for the business side of the company, which is who decides when a product is released and how long the test cycle will be. I am ofc empathetic with the development and quality assurance testing, they probably got 5 weeks to test the entire questing system and had to move on to other functionality, or had two people to test ALL of the quests in the game period. So, no I'm not blaming the QA or Dev teams.

Its not the most up to date version, the PTS players have a...oh wait a sec.

Theyre working on it and it will be ready for the 'real release' That is the response I would expect by now.

Seriously? people didnt play the game a ocupe weeks ago and saw what it was and what it was going otbe?

The only saving grace I can see is they have about 50 overflow servers and that is the only thing allowing people to reload the UI and get the quests to reload right. I suspect reloading or relogging puts you on an emptier server. Because if you beleive all the guys talking that seems to 'fix' the issues. I think some of the responses are dubious but whatever I am not playing I just know what the game was the past few betas and I dont think anything changed. Except now people are paying for it.

Considering you are in the "business" umm, you should know to stay away from this for at least 90 days from launch. It will take at least 3 sprint cycles to get rid of known bugs and the new bugs that fixing current bugs creates. You should know this being in the "business".

Congrats on fulfilling one of the forum archetypes which appear in every MMO. Where would we be without standard launch period complaining 101.

Are you saying an mmo launched with bugs ? Why isn't mmorpg.com writing a report on this to warn people. This is big news!!!!
  • DamediusDamedius Member Posts: 346

I'll admit it's very frustrating to do a long quest chain and then have the quest bug out on the last quest. I'm looking at you "Bloodthorne Assassins".

However I have yet  to run into the problem of being under levelled.  If anything the opposite is true and I'm over levelled because there are so many quests in this game.

After you get off the islands there is a ton of exploration to do. You will find quests and dungeons  all over the place, with the odd boss mob thrown in.

I don't think the average working Joe in these big organizations miss anything, they simply do what they are told.

IMO it is the VERY few at the top of the food chain, the ones barking out the orders and making the decisions that ruin game releases.

These games have no business saying they are TESTING in Alpha or Beta because the real truth is they have a deadline and simply call the 1-2 months prior  to that deadline a Beta test. When you test your product, you stop ad fix things, you make sure it is near as flawless as you would normally see.

Using the term Beta test  also makes them feel good about announcing pre-order sales.

Lol, my bad, after 17 years of playing MMORPG's as my major form of entertainment, I guess somewhere along the way everyone but me accepted that a crap release was acceptable... Well, it isn't for me, it wont ever be, and if you don't like my post feel free not to read it or participate.

Not acceptable to you....you paid for it so obviously it was. Bitching on a forum doesn't do a lot of good once you've given them your money. Doing it for 17 years obviously means your threats don't mean a thing, you're going to keep on buying them.

If it really was unacceptable you would of waited or not bought at all. Being a consumer sheep then demanding they do better next time is laughable.

Exactly. You should have known the game was gonna suck a.. man, it was talked about and apparent for MONTHS. I know that isn't "exactly" what DamonVile meant with that statement, but it was fun to say. image

    Truer words and all that...

I actually really like the game and know I'll enjoy it, yet I know it's current state will detract from that enjoyment, hence why I haven't bought it yet.. IF they can't get it working ( quest bugs are back) I"m not going to support it until they can.

Thats why I wait a month or two before i buy a mmorpg.   If i do buy it early then thats just something that happens.

No MMO will be perfect on release some things always get overlooked, sneak by,   or come up as more and more players connect.

If youve been playing for 17 years you would know all this and expect it to happen, its not ever going to change,   pretty much everything i download anymore gets bug fixes straight away for one reason or another.   (and pushing early accees games on us just gives bigger publishers more room to do this).

Ok...so I'm guessing you didn't get one of the thousands of weekend beta keys they handed out to try out the product? And then you went and bought the product before trying it out, with the knowledge of working in this business , that most if not all mmo's come out with glitches because of the added number of people finding these bugs? .....

Also if it really bothers you that people would response to your post (in any form or fashion) then may I make a suggestion and not post on a public forum??

Either way I am having a blast , so much so that I have to force myself off the game.

And why the rush to level so fast , only to complain that there's nothing to do later?? Why should an mmo have an "end game"....that makes absolutely no sense to me...guess that's what I get for comparing all new mm's to UO.
