Do people actually like this game?

tixylixtixylix Member UncommonPosts: 1,288

I don't get the hype here, most people I know were bored before they even exited the tutorial. I played the first few islands before I quit, but I knew I hated how it didn't feel like a world, I mean the main series has loading screens, but at least it still felt persistent. On top of that though, it didn't feel like an Elder Scrolls game, it felt like an MMO with the best bits of The Elder Scrolls taken out of it. I always thought the series was the perfect game waiting turn be turned into an MMO, but that was because it got rid of all the shit parts of MMOs. All they've seemed to do however is just made a worse WoW like all the other MMOs that have come since, only this time the combat is so bad it isn't even funny.

Just like Titanfall, there seems to be so much hype from the press, yet I know no one who actually likes it. They've basically turned a sandbox into a theme park. It isn't a proper MMO, it is all instanced and split up behind hundreds of loading screens, there is no world feeling and this is a disturbing trend in the genre. It isn't an Elder Scrolls game, it doesn't feel open, the quests are all boring, the combat is somehow worse and it doesn't feel like a sandbox or open like Elder Scrolls games do. Who does this appeal to? It's like a mash up of all the worst things about MMOs, the last good one was 2004 and that was WoW, since then it is like no one has come close, they all miss the point. I used to love the genre with SWG, EVE, WoW, EQ, PS... now it just feels like all ambition has gone, all innovation has gone, the open world has gone, they're creating games now, not worlds. To me an MMO is a world, if it loses that feeling, it isn't massive, it's an online game.

Just give me coop Elder Scrolls instead, all I really wanted any ways.

I like the game so far but I am withholding judgement long term until I have been able to play a lot more.

Having said that i knew the translation was going to have a cost associated with it.  I'll say this, ESO is more Elder Scrolls than I feared but less than I had hoped for.  I guess that's good enough for me for now, if it's not for you than I guess you will just have to hold out hope for something down the road that is more to your liking.

You didn't like it so you assume everyone else doesn't like it either?

    Hmmm.

If i only played the first 2 zones i guess i would feel the same as you. Once i got to the main land it felt like a totally differant game and it was fun to just explore with friends and do the odd quest here and there.

A definite yes. I really enjoy it. Love the Elder Scrolls games, Morrowind>Oblivion>Skyrim.

I think they have done a great job with this MMO, and it helps to have a little daoc flavor also.

I have played every ES games since daggerfall. I like ESO as do many other ES fans. To each their own, hope you find a games you like.

Looking forward to that, but will be saving ir for the actual launch.  This weekend will be mostly trying another few class/builds, crafting and learning how to mf**king lockpick properly.

BTW, how do I get or where do Treasure maps come from and what do they lead to?

I see the problem.  The game is not what you wanted.  I would have loved what you wanted as well.  I ignored that when I played and had a good time.  I expected an MMO with RvRvR that took place in TES universe and that is what I got.  Not over the top excited about it but I get what it is and it will keep me busy for a bit.

I don't understand how anyone could possibly like drinking tap water in San Angelo, Texas, but I see people do it all the time. Some of them even swim in it.

"Do people actually like this game"    --  I said the same thing about WoW, but apparantly millions of people do.

ESO has problems, but every game does.   Rather than waiting for the perfect game, I'd rather be playing something reasonable now.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I guess the standards of the genre have slipped, just don't get this new generation of gamer who likes this shit. It isn't even a proper MMO, sad, I guess all the people who would have agreed left of boredom from this site years ago, mainly due to the lack of anything from the genre.

Crazy!   Hard!  That San Angelo water's crazy hard!

    Here's a thought...maybe it's you, not the game.

I like i... I mean I HATE IT. It's gonna flop, fail, fumblerooskie.  Worse mmorpg in the history of all games, and I've played every MMO since Oregon Trail (no I haven't).  Sandboxes will save everyone of us from Ming The Merciless.

    Honestly great question OP.

For me, there is certainly something there. The atmosphere is compelling. I think they nailed it. There are certainly some issues I see with character development, yet it still feels good enough for me to play with a calculator, and still have me undecided on how I want to play.

There's enough there to have me looking forward to investing some time.

Yes, people like this game.  You just don't happen to know anyone that does.

    agreed.

Double agreed. This IS a proper MMO...not even gonna argue why. Would rather o.O why anyone would think otherwise had they been into the genre as long as the genre has been around.

Cut my teeth on UO and AC, beta tested almost every AAA MMO title since.... Clearly I am part of this "new" generation of gamer.

Heck I beat Mike Tyson on the second circuit in Punch Out. You could practically call me gramps in PC gaming years.

You might start looking at yourself and ask if you are burned out on the genre... Still lots of great work being done in many of these games.

When I was first playing and at that point in the game where you quit I felt the same way.

As far as the game goes in the tutorial and up to where you played it was and probably will remain utter garbage. Although the devs realized that and responded to player feedback by giving the option to skip most of that garbage next beta and on release.

It gets better.  The game gets a lot more free flowing and less hand holdy.  It doesn't turn into  a sandbox MMO though.  I too like a game that doesn't tell me how to live my life and what to eat for breakfast.  This game isn't as linear as the first few hours from previous betas indicated.  You should play beyond that point in the game and come back and write us another, more informed rant.

You could try Mortal Online or EVE Online if you're looking for a sandbox game though.  They are both great.

Given that the physical Imperial Edition is sold out everywhere, and has been for a while, I'm guessing there are a fair number of people who do in fact like this game.
