Naval Combat?

It would be awesome if you could buy a boat in PvP and take down enemy ships and navel forts and what not.

It would be cool to buy a ship, be able to upgrade/customize your own ship. And name it!

Maybe each guild can have one "warship" that serves as a base or something and each player gets their own smaller ship...getting ahead of myself.

Would you guys like to see navel combat some how in this game? How do you think it would work?

Edit: Changed name to naval combat from navel combat because navel combat has to do with belly buttons or something. (Hey, that would be a creative little mini-game too...)

Anyways, my bad.

    Navel/Naval jokes aside...

Would be awesome yes, but three things get in the way of this.

First, the only place PvP exists is Cyrodiil and the Niben bay is hardly big enough for a massive naval conflict.

Secondly, even if PvP was everywhere, Tamriel as a continent is very round and the only channel between large landmasses is between the mainland and Summerset isle.  Therefore, there would be little reason to venture out into the ocean for a fight when you could just go inland for them.  This is the same problem Darkfall ran into with its naval system necessitating them creating the Sea Towers and 4 outlying islands around the main continent.

Thirdly, not all of Tamriel is traversible, it is broken up into 4 distinct zones, so you'd be stuck in your faction zones sailing around open water with nothing to do and no one to fight.

If they added more lands (Summerset isles, etc) it would be perfectly viable.

There'd be plenty of reasons to leave the main continent for the islands and other lands, not to mention there is plenty of rivers/channels to support ships around Morrowind and in Cyrodiil.

For sure, but that's a long long way off.  They have to fill out the rest of Tamriel before they expand to other lands completely.
