Yeah, not sure how much my gf will enjoy playing a burly space marine either. If they don't include a female option at all, it's (in my opinion) a big step back for the gaming industry (or part of it).

Love this pic of a female noise marine for example.

While there are females in the 40k universe they are a minority, call it patriarchy or any other feminist name you want it

For now, only the eldar (and maybe chaos) seems to have a female option out of that picture

That image for example is not a marine(as marines are all male), its a corrupt sororitas (didn't even think it was possible), but then, im not an specialist on slaanesh it could just be something else

Eldar will provide the only female options at launch, but they stated in the recent twitch ama that adding female options is a high priority.

Either the person your responding to is a guy or is a woman who's kinda special (Eldar have banshees, some farseers are women, harlequins are mostly female by what I remember) and is gonna get really pissed off when she finds out that the only reason the almost all woman force in Warhammer 40.000 (the space nu.. sisters of battle I mean) were not put in initially was because they have to find out how to make "getting sacrificed to use your virgin/pure blood to combat deamons" as fun for the receiving end of the stick.

Would be pretty awful if they made female space marines for a video game.  Fluffwise there aren't any and it would be a huge mistake to change to fluff just to be more PC.   Looking at the initial picture of 4 races, the only potential female options would be Eldar or Chaos if they have cultist options.  Females are fairly prevalent in the 40k universe but not in every faction.  Eldar would be half female in their military.  Orks are asexual so not sure where to place them.    A good chunk of chaos cultists are female if they make it in on the chaos faction.  If other factions make it in, Dark Eldar, Imperial Guard, and Tau would have significant numbers of females.  Necrons are half female but only they can tell.  Sisters of Battle are all female.  Problem will be if they focus too much on Space Marines as GW loves to do, then you won't see many females.

The real question about this game is if it will be fun or if it will be a bunch of kill 10 Kroot quests.

This is being made by former longtime Funcom employees...I will wait until well after release to see if they have learned anything at all.

Seen it before, will wait for some substance, even the unpublished warhammer games made it farther than this before folding.

Far as I am concerned this is just another hype machine with nothing behind the hype.

Space Marine Chapters participating in the crusade include the proud Ultramarines, noble Blood Angels, ferocious Space Wolves and mysterious Dark Angels.

Together, elite warriors from different chapters may form Battle Squads, fighting as a unit and building their legend in the Eternal Crusade."

So it would seem you can choose any of these chapters.

So...we will see 50K space wolves and one or two of the other factions.  Raven Guard FTW!

Awesome.  I just hope it is at least as good as the recent WH40k game, or I'd rather have another SP/multiplayer installment.

Tabletop 40k has been nerfing Chaos Hard in recent editions (I have ideas why)  and making their lore a lot less cooler as well, while buffing up the servants of the false emperor.  I understand though.

    World Eaters still GOAT though.

And there are women in Warhammer, just not female space marines.

  • thegreatestagainthegreatestagain Member Posts: 35
The recent 40k was really good I thought and they did a good job making the good guys cool in it, even if theyve thrown chaos under the bus since more or less 4th ed.

I do not understand why Sisters of Battle gets enmeshed in some sort of virgin blood lore fiasco.  Who invented that?

On women in WH40K, I understand the whole "Space Marines are men" thing since they are genetic constructs.  But I suppose another possibility for female options are when (if?) they introduce Imperial Guard.  In the meantime we will have at least Eldar Banshees and Farseers.  I know the Eldar are aliens, so I am making a reach that female means the same thing for them as for humans.

Then there are the DARK ELDAR - the preferred choice for dreamy Goths and couples who want to play together with chars named Belle and Edward.

Oh, and lol at the Pony of Death - u rock sis!

  • thegreatestagainthegreatestagain Member Posts: 35

Although the Space Marine Legions are genetically altered and superhumanly enhanced, they are not all genetic constructs or clones, unlike the Primarchs, and are even rooted into warrior tribes on Earth or Terra, at least that is the way it is written in the codex's that i have read.  Also as far as I know, the sisters dont do anything.  I havent read it but based on a search, the Grey Knights (fairly cool 'new' loyalists) kill them and use their blood to shield from Daemons.

It isnt surprising to me, the Loyalist factions are FAR from innocent in WH40k, although theyve been really tooting them up as super honorable recently.  A lot of imperium action and policy falls into the grey area in the true lore.  (you could even argue that the imperium are 'bad guys')

Again, I really don't like a lot of the new Codex's, so I'm not surprised there is a lame and questionable story in one of them.

    The old stuff was Awesome!!

  • thegreatestagainthegreatestagain Member Posts: 35

Also the space wolves seem to have special assault troops developed from those whose first weapon used in battle was a close combat one, not sure if thats from a new codex or what (their old ones were cool too) but sounds good to me

also the internet sites out there dont do a  bad job and have some good pages on the 40k lore but you gotta read the actual codex to really do the material justice.

But really... This picture is not worth a whole article... Come on MMORPG.com! You're doing the same exact thing you did with SWTOR and Guild Wars 2... It gets old.

Sounds like you know what to expect from this site.  That said, if these types of posts bother you maybe its time to stop visiting?

Im starting to think you people expect every news post to contain a 15 min video, screen shots, and a 2 page essay from a developer to be considered news.

The only thing that bothers me a tiny bit is the idea of different chapters, clans, craftworld's etc. forming mixed battle squads made up of different outfits.  Yes, I know there is nothing to prevent it and I am sure it occurred in the (fictional) world.  However...

...visually and thematically the nicest thing about WH40K was how different forces and sub-forces had their own color scheme and personality in terms of what they could do.

It seems to me that given players natural desire to "min-max" for ultimate PVP advantage, we won't really see very many units operating as "Space Wolves" or "Bad Moon Clan Orks."  Instead it will be "rainbow" squads of whatever gives the edge.

yes true its a good point, and its that way in space marine 40k multiplayer now on console, but its the best they can do as far as player interaction goes unless they add a bonus for group with similar faction or something, and maybe they can have different factions in diff parts of the game
