Yeh. I am telling you that i won't sub.  There are so many free alternatives. There is no point (for me) to play one for long term. Even 2 weeks each, i have a huge list of games that i would not hope to "finish".

In fact, most are way longer than 2 weeks. In STO, i have been playing on and off for free. I have only get to my second star ship. It would be months before i finish its content, and i have tons of other games to play.

"Have you heard of xp boost? That obviously needs to be purchased again and again."

If you want to get through the underfunded PvE content as quickly as you can, and get to end game so you can leave, then XP potions are a must in any F2P MMO.

Exactly. Someone buy that guy a computer that has access to Google. Hell, he doesn't even need that, just to look back at past posts on this forum for his answer... in spades.

How is it that publishers can publish for "free" but make more money?

Cash shop based games don't make more money in the general sense that they compete with P2P games.  What they do great is provide a boost to dead games.  How much and how long that boost stays around is anyone's guess.

If developers actually implemented microtransactions correctly it should be a better business model, since it allows players with more money to spend more.

Ok that makes no sense...."the general sense"????  You either do or you do not.  P2P games...how many are left out there excluding WoW that probably blows the profits off the doors of the rest.

F2P makes money like Casinos make money even though they offer cheap rooms and free drinks.  They work off the average person putting down their 10 bucks every so often, but the big spenders (whales) come in and spend a crap load real fast and then move on.  Look at the fool that spent 9K on a ship in Eve.  You think people are not spending big in games when they got the cash to waste?

That revenant story has gotten so much mileage out of misinformation. :)

Yeah I wish they'd stop making those usd comparisons with isk everytime a news article is posted about the game. People with no clue about the game always make those misinformed comments.

Something tells me the OP woke up one morning and decided to write this thread out of boredom. If he/she were to search for 10 minutes they would have found a ton of data on how P2W model is greedily corrupt and makes a ton of money.

I always love the foolishness that comes out when people throw out greedy and corrupt in these things.  Makes me wonder how these people survive in our society.

I always love the fools that believe there is no corruption in business models like this. It makes me wonder how does it feel for them to bend over and grab their ankles.

corruption would be them not telling you and then you get the bill later.  The fact it is right out there is called honest and good business practice for the consumer.  The fact that you do not like something does not make it corrupt.  Does a person haggling with a car dealer make them corrupt because they do not want to pay much or want more money for their trade in.  Does a child selling lemonade for way over what it costs to make make them corrupt.

It is called business.  You create items and people either buy them or not.  Corruption speaks of something illegal.

And this is what I am talking about, PWE TOOK money from people with out producing the goods. Also good business practice doesnt include dealing with poor moral intent, if I buy a item for X and then sell it for X that is fine, If I buy X then create a environment through manipulation to fit my selling price that is immoral and arguably unethical and should be looked at as "bad business" which a lot of these companies have done.

Morality is relative. Even if Vegas is immoral, it is certainly legal.

Plus, a majority of players (and I) get to play part of the game for free. What is immoral about that?

How it is unethical when A) it is their environment and B) you can leave at any time.  For the most part you just described the Stock Market.

they come from subscription.  At least most of the western f2p games the profit come from subscription.

the asian ones typically come from people buying pay 2 win items.  And mind you in one of the game I played even if you pay 40000 US dollar you might still not have the best gear in the game.  That's how bad it is.
