A Multi-Game MMOG Community

Greetings! I'm Grey, old-time FFXI, long-time lurker. I am the Community Manager and Founder for the Impact Gaming Community (IGC), a Multi-Game MMOG Community. We're all gamers here and is an ideal place to find groups of players looking for new games and that's who we're looking for too. We're a medium-sized community (and always looking for more) right now and that has come with a few advantages. We are able to organize ourselves as new games come quite a bit easier than very large communities and if I can say so, we do it quite well. I'll give you a bit of history, tell you what we're all about, and then describe what we offer to every player that joins us and why you should consider us for gaming!

IGC began as a single, small group of friends in July of 2010. That group formed Neutral Impact and still exists today, only in greater number. Neutral Impact, our flagship guild, plays Final Fantasy XIV and has experienced many successes. From our then-small group an interest to play Rift arose. A few of our players wished to remain together and form a new guild and so Violent Impact was born, and Impact Gaming Community was created!

Since that time we've added a couple of major guilds across several different MMOs such as Star Wars: The Old Republic, Rift, and Guild Wars 2. Other guilds have come and gone as well but our reach has extended to games such as World of Warcraft, Star Trek: Online, and other free-to-play games.

Today we host 5 major chapters (FFXIV, SW:TOR, GW2, Wildstar, TES:O) with ArcheAge on the way. Last year's expansion brought in what we call Gamer Groups which now host League of Legends, DOTA 2, Minecraft (have our own server) and a Tabletop Games group which will play host to D&D, Mage, and Shadowrun players. That group will also be hosting board game nights in the future (all online).  In the near future we'll be adding FPS games as we're currently looking into having our own dedicated gaming server.

IGC is about having fun. We seek mature adults with a semi-hardcore mentality and playing time. That is, players who min/max everything and play at the highest level possible, but can't necessarily login for more than 3-4 hours a night. We believe real life comes first and so hosted events will never be mandatory.

IGC is highly organized. Everything is scheduled so you always know when your group's events are happening. We use raid planners and event calendars to make this happen. Leaders are transparent with their members too. We post on our forums, use guild messages, and converse on Teamspeak to keep our members in the loop on both community-wide and guild-related matters.

IGC is about connections. Like anywhere else, you join a guild to play a game. Beyond that, the community offers a way to connect with players across games. Members are entitled to hopping to another game when they want to and participating as they choose. No one's locked into anything, although I would say the majority of our players tend to stay in one group while making friends in others without moving games. We share everything at IGC; Teamspeak, forums, youtube channel, twitter, and steam group. We don't just look for players to join our guilds or groups. We look for players that want to establish themselves long-term with us. We want players that have a desire to grow within our community and prepare for upcoming titles if they wish.

Our primary goal is to grow into other games and genres. We want to provide our players with an even larger community with more friends and fellow gamers! This is important to us and we've put in a lot of work to be successful and show off our talents on our website and youtube channel. We feel that our successes are the best way to bring in new players. We also rely on social media to get our name out there to the most amount of players possible.

At the end of the day we try to provide a gaming experience like no other; one that is enjoyable and conducive to building long-lasting friendships. We recruit the types of players we feel can help make that happen. While we can't make everyone happy we do what we can to make the most amount of people feel at home with us.

With all that having been said, the question remains is "what do we offer?" Besides a great place to game, our community offers all the following to all its members:

  • Great-looking website
  • Shared community forums
  • Ever-growing list of games
  • Mobility between groups
  • Guild-based beta testing (when we get in!)
  • 500-person Teamspeak
  • Monthly Podcasts (you can be part of it!)
  • Monthly Newsletter
  • Yearly "Project Impact" promotions -- win cool stuff!
  • Game reviews done by members
  • Social media connections (Youtube, Twitter, Steam, Facebook, Twitch)
  • CafePress shop
  • Best of all: A place to call Home!
This is just the start of what we offer. What you bring to the table transcends all the things we could possibly offer you, the player. Everyone contributes their own special bit of magic to our community and that is just as important to our growth as any of the the stuff above. It sounds sappy but it's 100% true.

And just to make sure you understand this: IGC is NOT a business. I will never try to sell you anything or make you pay for any of the items above! It is quite literally just a dream of mine I had that I wanted to share with the gaming world at large and only in the past few years did I have the money to make it happen! We're just a bunch of guys and gals that enjoy gaming and want to show you how fun it can be the game with people just like you. That said, there are also opportunities to be more than just a member of IGC. You can be an officer too if you're good enough!

IGC grows because some of our players step-up to take on big projects that allow us to provide more games to everyone. Sometimes we bring in new players that are qualified and motivated to lead a new chapter or gamer group too. We're always on the lookout for:
  • Qualified Guild Leader/Masters
  • Motivated Officers
  • Reliable Members
  • Fun-loving Casuals
  • People who like writing
  • Forum-lurkers!

When I began this community it had 5 players to start and now we've grown to over 160. This doesn't happen without leaders, casuals, and everything in between. Yeah, we're pretty picky about who gets to be a Guild Leader or an Officer but that's what makes our community stronger than many others. All of our guilds offer semi-hardcore player bases with a casual crowd on the side. There's room for everyone at IGC and that has been at the core of our growth since our inception.

Oh, and I should probably mention that our latest project is adding guilds for Wildstar and TES:O!  Leader opportunities are available right now for those looking to make their mark on the MMOG world and showcase their talents with us! You can get your foot in the door with these games by submitting a general application.

Join IGC today! At the very least check us out. A number of posters are part of Impact Gaming Community and they can testify that we're a great place to spend your gaming hours. We don't disappoint and you'll make a lot of new friends and even meet a few you already had. I hope to see a few familiar faces in the days to come. I'll even post a few updates in this thread as we go to let players know when we're organizing new guilds for the future. Also feel free to ask questions or PM me here. I check this forum everyday, mostly lurking in various game forums. In the meantime, here's a few links to get you started with getting to know us!

Alrighty, see you guys online!

(if a mod feels this thread is inappropriate please let me know and suggest another forum it should go into! Thanks)

We're having a blast on the FFXIV: ARR beta this weekend.  Nearly all of our players are legacy status and so we will be transferring to Hyperion server in a couple of weeks!

This advert just reminds me so much of some of the "too serious" corp adverts from EVE-Online... maturity requirements are understandable in this day and age, adult requirement not so much... not unless you wanna get your ass handed to you by reddit's guild (which will happen in Archeage).

  • Grey950Grey950 New City, NYPosts: 58Member Uncommon
We're pretty far from "too serious".  It's hard to convey all this information without seeming that way though. Just a bunch of people who love gaming and do it well in the limited time we have and are looking for others to join us. Pretty simple!

It would be partially handy if you had a list in there of games you are active in, heck maybe even approx numbers who are playing that game,
I might of been interested but i got bored after the first paragraph and my head hurt trying to figure out if you even play any games or are just in FF XXXXX
Just a suggestion but a section which active games/numbers..
    good luck either way

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game :) were of course your welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

It's hardly a "wall of text".  If you look 2 inches down to the 4th small paragraph it has a list of games we play.  Thanks.

If you want to make your mark with a gaming clan and represent our growing community, join up today and fill out that general application! I will happily read it and contact you asap to discuss your potential addition.

You guys actually pay for 4 different MMOs?...SWTOR was the only one on the list that was free and GW2 was the only one that was b2p......Also how do you find time for so many MMOs?...I could see if you were dedicated to one or two of those but 5 with a 6th on the way?...Or do your members just pick and choose from those MMOs?
  • Grey950Grey950 New City, NYPosts: 58Member Uncommon
We have unique groups for each and every game we play.  A few members might overlap, playing like SW:TOR and DayZ or FFXIV and Dota 2, but no one plays more than 1 MMO at the same time with serious dedication to both.  This is a working man's community, ain't nobody got time for that much play.

IGC will be running two online tabletop RPG game nights per week beginning this weekend. Also we're looking to bring back online board/card gaming with Friday night Cards Against Humanity, Settlers of Catan, Guillotine, and maybe even Diplomacy if we get the right crew.

In general the community will be looking to accommodate a wider variety of player styles, even casual. If you're looking to bring something to the table for our community or just want to play something with us, hit me up on here or the above email. We are still considering most of the above positions as well as others at this time. Nothing is out of bounds at this point if we get the leadership to organize stuff!

As a member of IGC since before it even was IGC (5+ years) - I'd like to take the time to express not why I joined, but why I stay!

Gaming is a way of life for most gamers. It's more than a hobby, it's a marriage. 'Till death do us part! At IGC we are constantly evolving, finding innovative ways to immerse ourselves in this marriage.

We don't just have a group of people who play this or that - we have a community that bleeds gaming. Podcasts, Wiki's, Tabletop (Including old school D&D campaigns), Facebook, Twitter, a YouTube Channel, a Stream Team that streams all forms of gaming, A Steam Group, A Press Team - always looking for the next "Big Thing" in gaming. Various gaming chapters, each with it's own style, it's own feel. We have Programmers, IT Professionals, Website Developers, and all facets in between. We aren't paid to do it - we do it because of our passion for gaming.

At IGC - You quickly realize you aren't alone in your passion. You become a piece of a much larger whole, where not only do you feel like you "Fit In", you feel like you "Belong". There is no overbearing management BS that you have to jump through hoops for. If you want to come up with something new and exciting, start a new chapter or just become part of another team - you're given all of the tools to realize your vision. For free! No dues to pay, No forms to sign - let your imagination be your guide. Why wouldn't you want to be part of something like that? These are just some of the reasons I choose to stay. They are also some of  the reasons you should choose to join!

Look, if you're into playing games - online, console, emulator, old school pen & paper - anything - IGC is the home you haven't visited yet. So pack up your stuff, load it in a truck and drive on over. We'll even help you move in!

Some news to report. Neutral Impact has cleared A3S in FFXIV, our WoW guild has gone on hiatus until the next expansion, and we are restarting our Guild wars 2 group for the next content coming up. We have a podcast coming up this Sunday at 7pm EST which you can catch on at that time. We have started the Friday night Rocket league group and so far it has been just me and a few others but it's been super fun.

We continue to seek leadership and players from all walks of life. Currently we are recruiting for CS:GO, GW2, FFXIV, Minecraft, Trove, Diablo III and anything else people might want to start up.
