I have in my 24hours of playing this game tried to like it, But it just has not hit the 'spot' - What that spot is i dont know

Some thoughts from early playing

  • Very good imagery, graphically and musically - It all works together I love the idea that it tries to fit in.
  • Some quests, Love this problem solving not just the Kill this / collect that / escort that, but having to sneak around, avoid detection from cameras, this added a bit of depth to a well trodden route.
  • Gameplay, I am not a big fan of the ASWD movement I prefer my mouse to control a lot of things, I dont know / couldn't find out if i can bind my mouse controls to do things.
  • Instruction/Learner This is very patchy at best, for instance the introduction to crafting, it took me 20minutes to figure out what she was asking me to do when it came to making a symbol (or what ever they are called) in that house with the mystic women.
  • I dont like this idea of putting items in a specific place on that 'battleships' grid and voila something can be made, There was no visible progression from item A to item C - I mixed a few items and got a few less different items, but what are these items used for
  • Killing, Is very dull - maybe its because im still a n00b but i understood that you could wield weopan A and also do spells, but this i cannot seem to figure out, - I have tried both assault rifle and shotgun and there is no realism IE shoot like mad and ammo is unlimited, NO-NO-NO why not have ammo drop from kills or be made, thus creating a valid profession route.
  • Bugs, Oh my some funny ones Shotgun - When you get the first green shotgun, my character runs around like he is playing army when i was younger with hands in air going "brrr brr brr" i shot you... whilst the gun is still his back! Whats with that... you cannot tell me thats its a bug that has never been reported (and yes i relogged and still the same) - Even something as simple as this is offputting... If they cannot get this right ...

They have tried to make it sandbox in that you can do what you want, no classes or paths, but yet force you to do the same lot of missions/quests regardless of your starter race...  Why could it not be that depending on your starter your first city/town was different and was specific to the choice you made in beginning... for instance why when i was a dragon did i wake up in london (i think it is, if it isn't then they all look same) underground and when i escape im back in china

There just isn't enough in my opinion for new players, yes the help can be very good but only in populated areas that are not full of new players.

Even silly things like looting is cumbersome, click on each item.. etc.

So whilst i want to like the game i just can't and again back to EvE until Wildstar... this month been a sad bunny, Tried Neverwinter (too many corrupt players/ HAX ) Dragons Prophet (CB was good, but then OB it was like the game had regressed in game play and was back in 2005)  Age of Wushu (great but some serious localisation issues that spoilt it for me)

Still i live in hope... World of Darkness / Wildstar will fill my void.... I love EvE and i suppose loving something thats near perfection makes it hard when a new game comes out with its bugs/issues that all games have at release.

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

Just a few things to clarify, though it may not really matter to you by now; the game could do really a better job of explaining things:

"Gameplay, I am not a big fan of the ASWD movement I prefer my mouse to control a lot of things, I dont know / couldn't find out if i can bind my mouse controls to do things."

There is a reticle combat mode, if you press T -- allows you to move and target using the mouse.

"Instruction/Learner This is very patchy at best, for instance the introduction to crafting, it took me 20minutes to figure out what she was asking me to do when it came to making a symbol (or what ever they are called) in that house with the mystic women."

Yeah, in general the tutorials are pretty bare bones, and actually require a bit of study before everything clicks.  There is a pretty good starter guide for crafting here:

"Killing, Is very dull - maybe its because im still a n00b but i understood that you could wield weopan A and also do spells, but this i cannot seem to figure out, - I have tried both assault rifle and shotgun and there is no realism IE shoot like mad and ammo is unlimited, NO-NO-NO why not have ammo drop from kills or be made, thus creating a valid profession route."

Lots of opinions on this, and many blame the animations.  Still, with a bit of study, you can create some pretty good decks that are very effective.  Or just choose those starter decks.  Here's a really good primer on how the combos/synergies work.  Finding two weapons that play well together takes a little bit of study of the ability wheel (read the section on Weapons and Abilities):

"They have tried to make it sandbox in that you can do what you want, no classes or paths, but yet force you to do the same lot of missions/quests regardless of your starter race... "

Well, honestly, the game is billed as a themepark, not a sandbox, even though there is freedom pretty much to move around the way you like.  The story does require a path, though, and all the factions are in essence working to combat the same enemy.  There are some faction specific missions, but that said, more faction variety and difference is  needed!

"Even silly things like looting is cumbersome, click on each item.. etc."

    Press V for area looting...

Good luck in finding the right game for you!
