Sharing your passion for MMOs on social networks is like sharing your porn addiction, or gambling addiction, or crack habit, or drinking binges on social networks.  It gives people a reason to avoid you.  It also brings people into your life that you don't want there.

I am pretty comfortable with myself and who i am. If you are ashamed of being a gamer than it is your problem. Because people will see you how you want them to see you.

If you are comparing your gaming habits to porn and crack addiction than hiding away won't make it go away.

Unbelievable that people are actually quoting you and giving you +1 and +100's. Sad really sad.

I dislike the immense negative effect social media has had on society, but I dont give a fuck if people know I play MMOs.  Any 'chick' worth knowing is either a gamer herself, or understands that everyone has their own hobbies.

I love that my wife and I both like to game.  We don't always play the same games.  My kids game as well.

Its not like female gamers are rare.    Almost 40% of NA WoW players are female.  EQ2 was around 35% a few years back.

Dude you make it sound so cheap and disgusting and something we should be ashamed off and hide from others. Why do you even game then if you are thoughts are so low about gaming and gamers?

And what the hell with people quoting and giving you +100's? seriously? so much self loathing.

Wow that sucks I've never had to hide my mmo, pen and paper rpgs, comic books, warhammer,  or any of my nerdy pursuits.  Heck my wife's a huge MMO fan and the only razzing i get is from my friends who only play console games.

Playing: TSW, D&D NW, Defiance (more the tv show than game >.> ) LotRO, DCUO

Because employers can (and do) burrow into your online persona.

Consider it like age or race discrimination.

Everyone who knows corporate HR knows that it's happening constantly, all the time, despite being clearly illegal.

Yeah my work used to do that and scour people's FB profiles for new and potential hires.  But they were just looking out for people who were hardcore drinkers or partiers, still a bit judgmental but no one ever said anything to me about my HP Lovecraft posts on my wall or any of the game trailers I've had on there

I hate Facebook, Twitter and all that other social media hot garbage.  If it becomes a necessary feature to play video games, then I'll find a new way to spend my disposable income.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

    Precisely

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I work with a very reputed bank in Singapore as an intern while completing my MBA (2nd year student). And i never had to hide my gaming from either my friends or family or people i work with.

Moreover i have full control over my Facebook and i share it those i feel like sharing. I don't know why people still stereotype gamers as if it is such a shameful act and should be done in hiding in darkness of dingy allies like a hooker giving a BJ for few bucks.

There's quite a difference between sharing your in-game achievements with non-gamers, than to just flat out tell them you play so and so game in your spare time. If you can't figure out how to draw the line between the two in conversations then your problem lie elsewhere. Is is with gaming as it is with any hobby. If the person you talk to has no interest in it, then there's no point in going into details. Again that goes for hobbies beyond gaming. People don't want to listen to somebody yap about things that doesn't interest them the slightest.

I do come across the occasional frown from the common rabble but then I make a point in telling them, when they are playing social Facebook games for hours on end, there really isn't any difference between them and me. They are nerding it just the same. That usually gets my point across.

I'm curious as to what job you do, where your employer cares about your playing habits though?

No, I hate this company merging monopoly madness.  I hope Yahoo doesn't screw up Tumblr.  But yeah, I'm tired of these "conveniences" attaching my account to every damn take over.  YouTube-Google.  Myspace-Facebook.  I don't want my games attached to anything.  Puts me in mind of EA Origin.

I have this to say, "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT !!!"  And, "Get off me cyber lawn!"

Aye, that's what bothers me about it too. I don't, never will, and refuse to join facebook or twitter for something special in an mmo that I should have other ways to get instead of being forced into social media BS.

I don't like to be pushed through social pages, like "go to FB and get price",
but t not bother that much either.

I found exciting to join closed group with my guild mates so we can better know each other.

All I'm asking for is to be free and have free choice of use of anything.

try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2

Agreed, I don't want my real life friends knowing what I do with my spare time.

This is the future, MMO's and all online games are being designed to integrate with the new "playerbase". A playerbase of social media types who have little interest in gaming, but they are online and they pay for things online. This is trying to recreate the success of Farmville in a MMO, it does not matter they are totally different kinds of game, or that most of the people who play Farmville will have no interest in taking gaming further. 80 (?) million people play Farmville that's $ and £ signs flashing in front of gaming companies eyes. MMO's are being remodelled for the social media generation, dumbed down so the jump from Farmville to your MMO is not too hard.

why not just make a dummy facebook account?

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

I hate facebook integration in games but to be honest I haven't seen this in that many games. Which games exactly require facebook integration? There are quite a few games which run some promotions where you have to like their page to get something but that's about it. But yeah I hate facebook integration.

However, there are some upsides. I did the facebook integration in SC2 and found that a lot of my friends actually play SC2 so that was great. Same for dota2. I had quite a few close friends and I had no idea they were playing dota 2 hehe.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
