Dreamfall: Chapters - At Long Last!

So, for fans of the Adventure Game genre around here, this may be some great news - at least for those who haven't already heard about it.

Ragnar Tornquist has gathered up the core developers/designers of  Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, broke away from Funcom, bought the rights to the "The Longest Journey and Dreamfall" franchises and has set about creating the third entry in the series.

They're going with self-funding, grants and a Kickstarter campaign that has already met its goal, passed it, and is now unlocking stretch goals, with 9 days to go as of this post.

One of the best things about this is that there are no Publishers or investors telling them what kind of game to make, or what adjustments to "make it more commercially mainstream". This way, they maintain 100% creative freedom to create exactly the game they want to make, exactly the way they want to make it.

For those unfamiliar with the series, The Longest Journey came out in 1999 and was met with high praise pretty much across the boards, won a ridiculous amount of awards, and has been called one of the 100 best PC games ever made.

The follow-up, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, while not as much as TLJ, was also very highly regarded and received much praise and awards from the industry and players alike.

For those interested in the Adventure genre, this is something you might want to look into.

Go check out their Kickstarter page and see what's up. There's also been an official trailer released, introducing the setting, the worlds of 'Stark' and 'Arcadia', as well as the concept of Shifters and Dreamers within the worlds.

So, definitely worth a look.

Good times ahead, indeed.
