Astroturfing?

KedoremosKedoremos Member UncommonPosts: 432

Oh man I gotta get this off my chest.

There seems to be a disproportionate amount of forum posts for this game.

Everytime I hit the front page there's a new post in one of the Wushu forums.

It's a new, decent sandboxy MMO with no spaceships. Of course it's popular on this site.

If a game is asian, hyped and new, remember the name is Age of Wushu!

It seems like genuine interest, though. bcbully, GreyKodiak, Biskop and the other avid fans of AoW seem pretty on the level, and their posts seem to be sincere enthusaism.

If anything, bcbully posts are a breath of fresh air around here, as we all have MMOs that we enjoy playing, but it's rare to ever see someone post about the great time they just had in a game. I wish more people did that.

You got me, I am a shill for snail. They were going to use me to smooth out the english translations into something resembling a passable experience, but then they decided that they would keep the old 1990's bad translated wushu movie feel in place...so they sent me out to this message bored. Where 40 people see a post I make and I get payed 10 cents a view...just this post I am going to make $00.65.

This isn't GW2. These are real people discussing the game...

    Edit: Except GrayKodiak...

It's just a decent game that isn't like any of the other clone themeparks, all the people I see posting are just talking about a game they enjoy, not saying its going to destroy WoW or change the earth, it's refreshing. I have played for a bit and can see the comments are genuine, talking about both strong points and weaker points to the game.

It's nice to see a game arrive with no hype, and have people just show some joy at discovering something different.

I only count for half a person. Sorry about that, Gray :)

    (00.65 @ 00.10/view = 6 and 1/2 views?)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Remember this is a classic game ( as Nine Scrolls Manual) in Asia released here in the west in an attempt to open up a market. They don't have a big enough budget to buy astroturfing specialists. I am not surprised that it is proving popular here on this site. That's because the forums are populated by a lot of disenchanted veteran MMO players looking for something outside the typical themepark mold. This game has features in spades if not the most modern graphics (understandable considering the age.)

Nah, the game has some rabid fanboys active on these boards but still does not attract enough attention to generate negative posts.

You can see same pattern with other smaller, indie games.

It's a game that invites plenty of discussion.  There is nothing sinister happening here.  I remember when there were about 3 of us posting regularly about this game.  Now others have taken notice, they are discussing it.  Most of the threads I've seen have been relevent and have spawned healthy discussion.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

I was pleasantly surprised by the graphics, shame there is no day/night, weather, but some of the vista are very impressive.

Heck, I like the game, and now that I can play without the bizarre one-hour limitation (thanks for the beta key), I'll be glad to pick up testing it again. I hope they don't mind me pointing out all the Google Translate errors, because that's mostly what I have issues with. Maybe if the game were translated properly, I'd be able to find more mechanics problems, but let's start by making the game comprehensible.

I've been trying to get a confirmation but word is the game is four years old in the east. In consideration I think the graphics do well. In the west we are supposed to be a like a patch behind them.
