Any word on how long the beta server will last? Or what longterm plans Turbine has for a full / limited relaunch?

No, only that they've said as long as no major exploits etc. pop up they don't plan on having a wipe at the end of beta. They also specified they can't guarantee no wipe.
If you are waiting out beta to hop in I wouldn't bother waiting. They've done a lot with stability and they have the hero system turned on. It is a fun experience.
