Exactly. People really do not know how good they have it until they try out the competition.
I will say that Gamestop's new steam-like service is very nice as well with some awesome deals like steam has. It is also easy to use and very lightweight. But nobody can match steam's selection.
Dude i have hundreds of games across multiple digital distributor services and have yet to run into one problem.
Steam, Origin, GoG, Impulse, Gamers Gate, Green man Gaming, GFWL, Uplay, Battle net, Desura, Get Games Go, Amazon.
I buy my games, i install my games and i play my games.
I have a nice neat folder holding all of my distribution clients.
I don't like steam, so I don't buy products from them. It's that simple. Like steam? Buy from them. Don't like steam? Don't buy from them.
So you strictly play MMOs then right? or F2p like LoL? Because there are a whole mess of games that require steam even if you buy them from another dstributor.
Im also assuming if you dislike steam you also dislike Origin GFWL Uplay, PSN, XBL, iOS and other closed platforms?

Same, I tried to take half life 2 back to the shop for a refund when i found out i had to use Steam. I'd just moved and had no net so was annoyed i couldn't play it. Needless to say i was glad they did not accept the return once my net was up and running.

Been there, done that.
Set up new system, downloaded GFWL client or game that uses it. Put in my account info and had no issues playing my games.
I've never even got GFWL to work once, much less through a machine upgrade. I couldn't even get their website to work, much less their application. I finally had to download the dll that allowed me to play the game offline without GFWL.
Steam was a no-brainer though. I didn't bother trying to get any saved games so it was probably easier for me than most.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Well you have to see it from his perspective. To continue on that thread would just be embarrassing for him.

Why did you need to download al DLL? You can easily make a offline account and play games like that. I do it all the time.
Most of the time GFWL is just easier to load by installing and running a game that requires it.
Like Dark Souls, Batman or Bioshock 2.
I dont get how so many people are having issues with it.
the only thing that sucks on steam is their return policy. if a game is broken and frankly unplayable to any extent it should be returnable. none of this limited 1 use customer appreciation BS..
other then that i have never had any issues with steam. unless it was lagging out my other non-steam games by updating lame ass CSS (when i had it installed with TF2)
though i would really love for valve to unfk them selves and put a real effort in to fixing the FUBAR that is DODs... i know they wont cause its not gayass TF2 or retarded CSS (or is that CSo now..) still faintly hold out hope there will be a content patch..... perhaps 2210 >>"

You assume too much and are wrong. I only play mmos, I prefer subscription based mmos, no I never had problems with orgins the few times I've had to use them. Feel bad for me why? Sounds like my 13 year old niece when someone disagrees with her or someone doesn't like something she does.
I've never had any issues with Steam on any of my PC's. /shrug
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
This thread is from Feb of 2011 and the first post you made is from July of 2011. Got anything less than a year old?

There are tons of games that don't 'require' Steam.
+ Steam is one way to play some games, you can always buy them from the developer online stores or in normal shops and bypass Steam alltogether......but noooooo, "I am gonna buy it from Steam anyway: .
I feel bad for the players that buy stuff they know they're not gonna like.

Steam is about to support Linux soon. The only gaming business with lots of money that will support Linux on any serious level.
Steam lets you buy, manage and share the progress of your games easily.
Steam connects you with your gamer friends. Let me tell you, playing Skyrim without steam, when I can upload a screenshot to steam cloud and show it off to my best Skyrim buddy instantly or talk with him about yet another great dungeon experience I'm having in the game while in-game, just isn't the same for me anymore.
Steam workshop? Best thing to enchance your Skyrim without having to manually deal with tons of mods or third-party programs.
And more importantly: Why hate on a software you personally dislike or find unfitting for you needs, instead of just ignore it and choose not to use it? Buy your games directly, without Steam and enjoy your steamless gaming without hating on a system (a community, if you wish), that tons of other gamers worldwide love and use every day.
Because some people are just "Drama Queens'?

I totally agree with this. I would also add..
Installing on multiple computers is EASY!
Just log in, autheniticate new computer and bam, games downloading. Great for those of us that DO understand computers and upgrade regularly.
I have a friend that just HATES Steam. I really don't understand why. Of course, he refuses to play modern FPS games because they are not Medal of Honor... the original one... he still plays it... UGH!
Haha, I seriously LOL at people bashing and hating on steam. 90%+ of the people hating on steam don't know how to use basic functions of a computer. Ive been using steam for years, never had a problem or bugs that prevented me from playing...
Besides you can launch a lot of games with steam not even running, including skyrim.
Wouldn't it just be easier to say, 'yeah I'm dumb when it comes to computers' rather than blame a product that had nothing to do with your issue. Swallow that pride instead of this futile attempt to piggyback off of other peoples complaints and drag this embarresment out any further.
Steam was crap when it first came out. They took Counterstrike from being a free mod and put it on store shelves, then used steam to kill gamespy and other game server services so you could only use steam to play CS. It's been crap, always, it's just morphed into a whole need breed of crap.

Oh noes. A disgruntled customer! Steam MUST be crap. Those 5 million users every day must hate every second of it.

Ea drm used to be origin awful though with only letting you install it x times or upgrade your pc y times.
