Ethereal Dawn Fracathon (Dec. 15th) - A Child's Play Charity Event!

AllyniaAllynia Member Posts: 23

The Ethereal Dawn Guild would like to invite you all to join us for a 24-hour gaming marathon starting at 12pm CST on December 15th to raise money for the Child's Play Charity organization! Five of our members will be running the new Fractal of the Mists Dungeon for 24 hours in Guild Wars 2, starting at level 1 and working towards the maximum level we can reach within 24 hours.

The event will be streaming live via the Ethereal Dawn Twitch.tv page, and we are inviting all of you to join us and donate during this special event. Our goal is to raise $1,000 dollars during the Fracathon, and we need your help!

Child's Play is dedicated to improving the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game community and the power of play.

Child’s Play is always striving to pursue new opportunities and expand the positive impact of the cause. This includes consistently researching and pursuing alternate fundraising channels, new donation platforms, additional events and better community support.

If you're interested in joining us or would like to learn more about the Fracathon event, head on over to the Ethereal Dawn Fracathon website, where you can learn how to donate and participate.

Help us give some extra smiles to children this Christmas and show that gamers really do give back.

This sounds very nice as a thing to do...

However, I want to know if 100% of the proceeds goes to Child's Play.  I ask because what if $5,000 was made through donations, but you only max the $1,000 to CP while the rest is....up in the air?   There are charities that do that, even Blizzard's "charity digital store sales" have a cap of what they donate, the rest is pocketed by them.

100% of money raised by the WoW Cinder Kitten pet will go to charity. Please dont lie.

If you feel that if your donation will go to the company and not the charity then you should donate directly to the charity instead of through some in-game event.

Yes all money raised during the event will go to Child's Play Charity. We decided a $1,000 goal was realistic considering this is the first time our guild has run an event like this, but all donations will be used by the Charity.

Admirable cause, but 24 hours non-stop gaming isnt exactly healthy for those 5 participating players.

While I agree with you evilastro, we realize that working towards a good cause to help others takes effort and we're willing to sacrifice some sleep to support Child's Play.

I'm sure we will be exhausted by the end of the Fracathon, but marathon gaming events are typically pretty popular, so we're hoping participation will be great due to the type of event we're hosting.

Is any kind of lawyer on this to make sure all the money goes to the right place?

Otherwise it's not only suspicious, but it's also against the law I think.

Don't get me wrong, I give your good will a benefit of the doubt, but I don't think you can organize such a think without an escrow (or equivalent) supervising it. In my country and in most Europe at least, it's forbidden.

Respect, walk, what did you say?

Our guild doesn't handle any of the money donated during this event. All donations are done through a ChipIn widget that is setup according to guidelines given to us by Child's Play representative Jamie Dillion.

There are more details around how you can donate and how the process works on both the Fracathon webpage and Child's Play Charity website.
