I'm gonna mop you up in 2.0 boy.

    That's right.

    Bring it.

Well you dont have to worry about full loot in the game because the same way that dude killed you and took the stuff somebody killed him and took his things. Its a circle of karma.

    Another question:

In games you can usually press a key, lets use Alt for example, and you can see monsters, npcs, and players name floating over the heads telling you their position, is this possible on Darkfall or are the names always hidden until you reach a certain distance, say 5 feet from it?

I ask because I usually play roles where I can hide and attack from a distance.

in the old 1.0.. when you aimed on something.. you had a tekstblock in a window telling you want you can do with it.

FYI: there are no tesktblocks on anything except a small icon when your in party

basicly you need to forget all you know about mmo's

Before i played darkfall i was fan of ""normal" games aswell.. like gw and so forth.. once you hit in darkfall and played for it for couple of month''s there is no turning back.. :P

everything else is just dull and boring..

Hide and attack --> you will fit straight in

There are no healthbars or name markers on the GUI until as you said, you get 5 feet from your target and put your cursor over it. So yes hiding behind a tree and watching someone kill a mob, then swooping in and surprise attacking them is perfectly viable :D

Darkfall players don't like getting looting, they like looting someone else. However the fact that you can get looted makes looting someone else possible. If you travel for two hours to a farming spot you are doing it wrong. Farming spots are spread out all across the world and everyone farms nears their bindstone.

If I dont like getting ganked and dry looted when I have 5% heatlh left after fighting and just killig a super hard mob will I still like DF?

If you have to drop to 5% health while fighting a monster you are doing it wrong or fighting too hard of a monster. Darkfall pve has its own rules regarding pve compared to other games. There are no limitations on levels or the amount of players you can have in a zone, however the risk vs reward concept that darkfall is based off of presents natural rules to the pve meta game. Bring less people, split the loot with less players, more likely to be killed by bandits. You could wear more expensive gear, kill the mob faster, defend yourself better. However you never know how prepared your enemy will be and you could die to 5 players and you have essentially wasted all your best gear.

Basically what I'm saying if you want safer farming in darkfall it is very possible, you just have to put in the effort.

If I dont like having to mount and dismount 50 feet out of town for fear someone will jump on my mount the minute I spawn or dismount regardless of whether they care about being flagged or not, will I still like DF?

I never had my mount stolen in darkfall 1 after three years, not once. Regardless I see this could annoy some players and improve the new player experience overall by not allowing mount theft. Mount theft is not possible like it was in darkfall 1.

If i dont like setting up a trade with someone then being setup mself ganked and dry looted of everything I wanted to trade, will I still like DF?

Pvp is disabled in some parts of the world in Darkfall unholy wars.

Because this stuff happens all day non-stop in DF.  But its being sold as a game that has somwthing for "everyone".

Yes he did.  I'm not trying to compare the two games, I'm offering to answer any questions people have about the new game or the old game.  There are many features of the old game that will be in the new one.

how much timke have you spent playing in DFUW beta that you can claim to be a vet in it? if not how can you truely answer our questions with any degree of honesty?

Thanks everyone for helping out with all the questions!  I went to bed and woke up to two more pages of questions haha.

I sincerely apologize for my grave error in saying Tasos is CEO of Aventurine.  He isn't the CEO, his title is more simply God of AV.

This is unknown at this time.  My personal opinion is I doubt it will be.  The game only got greenlit two days ago and I doubt AV has the time to do everything needed to get the game steam ready (like the overlay, advertising, etc).

I could be wrong though so don't take my opinion as fact or anything.

You lucky dog you!  See things like this is why I actually fell in love with Darkfall immediately.

Story: I followed Darkfall 1 for some time before it came out.  Then when it released I wasn't lucky enough to be able to buy the game so I eventually gave up and decided to come back when the game was more polished and there was an NA server.

I started playing about 9 months after release and I followed the Val Roth tutorial videos.  On my second day I wanted to travel to a spawn that at the time I thought was far away and I wanted a mount.  So I whacked bushes until I got a steedgrass and crafted my first mount.

I had no clue how to use it or spawn it so naturally I just double clicked the item in my backpack and nothing happened.  I was looking at the bank so I thought oh maybe I actually spawn it somewhere in front of me.  So I turn around, look way too far in front of me and spawn my mount way too far away.  As I'm running towards it another Alfar runs over from a crafting station, hops on my mount, and runs off into the sunset.

At this very moment is when I fell in love with Darkfall.  Never had I experienced something like that and I realized how truly different of an MMO Darkfall was.  The beauty of DF is it is a two way street.  So I spent many years stealing and killing mounts for fun and returning the favor :D.

Never played this game but it does look interesting.

Will it be released in 10 days? Seems like its very close to what they said it would release on and no official answer?

As of right now yes the game releases in 10 days.  However a delay isn't out of the realm of possibility.

I'm sure we'll know by the end of this week.

Yes, release date is set for December 12, 2012. It was pushed back a couple weeks from their original date but back then they were very hush hush about a lot of stuff. Now it seems they are releasing videos every couple of days and doing interviews...etc. Giving a lot of feedback to the community at the moment and Darkfall: Unholy Wars is going to be on steam too. I really think the 12th is going to be the date. No more setbacks. So excited!!!

So I usually hate PvP in MMO games.  Hate wow's pvp, hate Rift's pvp, way too gear based with separate gear and everything only for pvp.  I think I will end up liking Darkfall's pvp from what I've been reading and the great answers you guys are giving, but, what about the PvE of the game?  I hear all this about PvP but I feel like i don't know much about any PvE qualities of the game.

I do like PvE a lot, I enjoy PvP as well, but only when it is well made, which it seems darkfall's will be.  So for PvE, are there raids? Dungeons?  What's the loot like that mobs will drop?  Is it a huge upgraded weapon or cosmetic items or?

Also most importantly, are there quests in the game?  Even if they are basic; like, go kill 20 wolves, etc.  are there quests like that?  Or quests like, go here, talk to this guy, discover cave, escort him through said cave, boom big troll, fight big troll, quest done?

It doesn't work to seperate pve and pvp in darkfall, they overlap by design. Fighting monsters is engaging because of the fps combat and difficult because of the AI. There is a wide range of monsters from flying dragons and sea creatures which require parties to defeat. The best gear isn't dropped by monsters rather the materials to craft and enchant the best gear is. The pve that darkfall has is exactly what darkfall needs. AV patched the pve many times over the life time of darkfall 1 and you can be sure they will continue to improve the experience.

Also most importantly, are there quests in the game?  Even if they are basic; like, go kill 20 wolves, etc.  are there quests like that?  Or quests like, go here, talk to this guy, discover cave, escort him through said cave, boom big troll, fight big troll, quest done?

Darkfall unholy wars has replaced its traditional quest system for what they call a feat system. There are many different feats and when you start accomplishing them you unlock hard ones. Feats can range from crafting, pve, pvp, and clan warfare. We don't know exactly how it works but the idea is to support the progress of your character by contributing to the world in a meaningful way. This way you can be a crafting or pve focused and still progress your character.

darkfall is kinda unique.. both in pve and pvp.. his strenght lies in the combat system they got..

The pve is in darkfall is more then challanging alone.. every mob ingame drops loot that can be used in crafting..

And ofcourse the better or harder the mob is the more special the mats are..

There are various aspects in this game.. and every player plays his own way..

Sandbox.. do what ever you want when  you want.

If you wanne  be a trader you can.. if you wanne be a shipbuilder you can.. if you don''t wanne pve @ all and get gear from pvp you can..

According to want i know about unholy wars..they made the new player experience alot better..  but no details on that..

Try to forget your standart mmo concepts you can''t compare it with darkfall..

There are defo quest''s ingame.. but this is not the strenght of darkfall..

If you wanne have the good stuff for pvp.. and you can't get the kills from pvp.. you basicly need to pve to get the good stuff..

but like i said before.. there is a downside to it.. once you go darkfall... everything else is just boring..

Edit: above poster corrected me indeed.. in unholy wars is a feature implented about a some sort of progression in pve in pvp.. not much details tho..

I'll chime in here as well:

If you hate the PvP of themepark MMOs like WoW, Rift, GW2, SWTOR, etc... Darkfall is the game you NEED to try.  Aiming and shooting things in first person in an MMO is such a different beast than what you are used to.

I can only speak to the PvE of Darkfall 1 since we don't know much about DF:UW.  In DF1 PvE was largely just a means of gaining materials/resources/gold/items.  Every mob in the game can be skinned and they all skin for different materials of varying quality.  Like any game, the harder the mob is to kill the higher quality loot it drops.  Some mobs dropped weapons and armor but the durability and protections of this gear was pretty bad compared to player crafter gear.  Again, PvE in Darkfall 1 was mostly about aquiring wealth and materials in order to craft/create gear/weapons/etc.

PvE does appear to be getting some changes in DF:UW like the "feats" system.  The feats system is an achievement system that changes based on your location.  So you very well could be exploring and get an achievement that pops up that  says "go find this" or "kill X of these"... we  don't really know how that is going to work but the system looks promising.

There are dungeons in Darkfall, however they are not isntanced and do not contain "bosses"...they just contain larger and more difficult mob spawns.  The best dungeons in the game were always big PvP hotspots as well.  There are no raids in Darkfall.  You could bring 500 people to go kill the Demon if you want, but it only drops enough loot for about 3-4 people.  A lot of us are hoping for more "raid boss" like encounters where there are large/difficult monsters that do more than just shoot things at you.  But again, we're hoping... it isn't in anyway confirmed or even speculated to be in the game.

Lastly there very minimal quests in Darkfall 1 and more than half of them didn't even work.  To be honest, I played Darkfall for a full year before I even knew quests existed in the game.  There were 6 total quests that were actually useful and those were the title quests.  These quest lines were hardcore grind type quests (go kill 200 skeletons for example) and the reward at the highest tier was +6 to a stat dependant on which questline you did.  In the last year of the game when there was basically no grind in the game, these quests were also meaningless.

While there isn't any info on questing in DF:UW, I wouldn't expect them in the game.  I think they will try and implement questing through the feat system somehow...we'll just have to see how that pans out.  Thanks for reading!

how do the stats on gear work?  will most of a characters stats come from gear or from raising a skill level?  you mention quality of items.  if one person has tier 5 gear and one has tier 3 gear and they both have their sword skill maxed out how much powerful is the t5 guy over t3?

    Very good question my friend.

In DF:UW there will be stats on gear that change your health, stamina, and mana pools.  How heavily stats rely on gear though is still unknown.

In DF1 the rank of your skills was much more important than your gear.  In DF:UW the rank of your abilities will matter but it is still unclear how gear will play into this.

I am confident in one thing though.  A major feature of Darkfall is that an amazing player in the worst gear in the game can still beat a crappy player with the best gear in the game.  I know this will be something that continues through the new game as it is a staple of the game.

Using the example between say an unenchanted hellraiser (rank 70 greatsword) vs. an unenchanted dawnrazer (rank 50 greatsword) the difference in damange to the front (there are front and back hitboxes in DF) would be between 10 and 15 damage.  When two players of equal skill are fighting, this damage differential is a huge obstacle to overcome.  However if the player with the lower tier weapon uses superior strategy and has more skill...this damage differential can be almost completely negated.

there will also be resistances yes?  like i could enchant my gear to increase my fire resistance?  and a fire mage would hit me for less damage.  do enchants only last a certain time?  is there a limit on enchants i can put on gear?  or can gear be infinately enchanted?

You can easily see the disparity if you just search youtube.   There are plenty of videos of 10+ noob characters getting mauled by a single vet.    There is a huge difference between new players and old players, but that is more of the combination of stats, skills, and items.

However, there really isn't much known about DF:UW.   As the game progresses I would expect the role system to make the skill and stat game mechanics to be much less of a hinderance for new players.   There hasn't been much said about items, but as the OP pointed out the difference in items in the original game, could be overcome if skills and stats between two players is relatively equal.

We don't know how this will work for DF:UW.  For DF1 there were resistances on gear but the protections you got from buffs gave you more (and they didn't stack).  The resists only really mattered if you were a destroyer and couldn't cast self buffs (and didn't have friends to buff other you).  Enchants were permanent and you could put two enchants on weapons and one enchant on helms, rings, necklaces, and chest pieces.  You cannot re enchant an item once it has been enchanted once.

Again, that all pertains to DF1...we don't know how it will work in DF:UW.

question is nice but your point of view is wrong :P

in darkfall.. weither or not your running in uber gear.. you can still get killed by a robe dude  with a greatsword..

my point is.. first you need to learn how to control your chararter and how to move.. learn about vitality managment.. your survival skills.. your surroundings and make us of them..awareness of what is going and so forth.

Then you can actually start focussing on your aim..
