Do yourself a favor and don't buy Cartel Packs

ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

Those packs have a very, very slim chance to contain anything useful. I had some extra money this months and bough 8 Crime Lords Packs, and I got NOTHING of use. It's just a scam. If you see people with that flying throne or Nihilus mask or White Saber Crystal, they are extremely lucky. You can see the chance is slim and you may end up investing much into nothing. I had expected the chance for something cool was bigger. Alas, it wasn't.

It's just a scam.

Consider yourself warned.

That is the point, I believe. Sucker people into buying those with the CHANCE of getting something "super cool". Then you get people who have addictive personalities sinking tons of money into those. A decent company would just sell the throne/mask/etc as single items at a reasonable price, but this is EA we're talking about here.

I've bought 6 packs so far, 5 mil credits later and a Sith Throne mount to my name, I'm happy. Don't hate the game because your luck sucks.

That is indeed my conclusion too.

    Lets say I bough 8 packs a 360 Cartel Points = 2880 Cartel Points = ca. $20

I would assume for that buying a rare item DIRECTLY would be justified. So yes, if EA were a decend company they would make it like that. The wording "a good chance for a rare" is entirely misleading.

What has "hating the game" to do with warning them about the Cartel Packs? They are a scam, because the probability is much lower than the description implies. That is entirely unconnected with the rest of the game. That you are lucky, doesn't mean everyone will be. It's still a scam, say what you want.

"Never tell me the odds!" worked for Han Solo, not so much for rational people.

That extra money you had was definietly disposable income.

In the future, never buy lottery tickets to a game that won't tell you what the odds of winning are.

Bonus tip: Your odds of winning 3 card monty is not 1 in 3.

Cartel Packs are optional. You don't have to buy them. LOL avoid the tab: Packs.

I spent plenty of money on them, and though sometimes the luck seems to be aout, from tume to time there are cool stuff coming.  The 7 grade crafting materail are very welcomed:) I got tons of them... can be pretty pricy on GTN.

I can even make an offer:)  whoever first  sends me in game mail to  Aria'ad'ne will receice The Thruthseeker. Double bladed lightsaber looking exactly like  on my sig :) On th Ebon Hawk :)

This isn't sarcasm Sevenstar, but send Bioware your resume.

Your enthusiasm for SWTOR is unshakeable. That's meant to be a compliment,

Unike many ardent fans on say the TOR forums, your enthusiasm for the game isn't expressed in a confrontational, know-it-all manner.

I still think you're nuts, but in a good way.

I agree same experience with Perfect World, & Gamers First.

Bought over 20 packs though didn't get anything good. spent over $40.

This excludes the fact that Gamers First is just after your money of course, gives crappy customer service, allows clans to do harassment and trolling in Fallen Earth, and GM's lie to you they look into it they don't. APB the next biggest title full of aimbotters.

I download SWTOR again and checked it out and to me its just not worth playing at the moment the moment I signed in I was tempted to buy a subscription but they don't give me enough as a subscriber.

Instead of making me have to waste gold or my RL time give me all inventory unlocks as a subscriber, experience bonus or something.

Free players are also too nerfed.

Give me some actual decent looking StarWars Armor with unlimited character customization/edits as a subscriber.

Then I will consider returning, but until then this game is still dead in my eyes, and I really don't expect free players to come back with all the limits unless they are planning to pay so no sense in really going F2P.

EA & BioWare are just really crappy companies in my eyes for most of their games Ive played a lot of them and I can say for example the Dead Space series could have been designed way better especially with Dead Space 2 and so on. It makes you wonder where a lot of their development money really goes and the lack of creativity seriously. Well Im glad I don't pay $50 for my games and I get them for like $5 on a steam sell or someone selling them really cheap.

I hate random item bags in the cash shop.

I absolutely hate them.  I hate them in GW2, I hate them in Champions Online, I hate them in SWTOR, I hate them in S4 League.  But I guess theres a reason why casinos make so much money.

Yeah, I have to say I'm inspired by Seven's defending the game. I love it, and have since headstart, but I'm going to take a more active role is defending the game when I can.

You're gonna hate me then...... Just purchased one pack, after having just read this thread and in that one pack, received exp boost, a nice rank 5 companion gift, rank 6 metals, rank 6 slicing material, the throne mount you speak of and a pink crystal.

With that said, the only thing I plan on holding on to is the crafting material. if I'm able to sell the rest on the market that's what I'm gonna do, because a floating throne and a pink saber just aren't my thing.

Figures the only things the EA D-bags take from SWG, was the latter day TCG scam.

Paying real cash for a "chance" at getting a randomly good item in an ocean of crap.

Seems awfully close to softcore gambling aimed at the sub-18 crowd....

NEVER BUY ANY chance based items in any game. Never and ever.  Does not matter if chance is smaller or bigger.

Do yourself a favour and never do it again, even if they do SWG 2.0 and put those kind of things there.

Cash shop in mmorpg is generally not good thing, but rng based gamble sales are worst trash thing can be put in it. Real world trade cards with in-game rewards are as bad btw. Does not have to be CS.

Most important thing Elikal you can draw from this situation is that : never buying gamble items for your game is best course of action.  Even if you make alot of extra money.

If those items bother you too much and you think about blowing more money on them, it is better to just leave game altogether than taking part in that kind of scheme.

Btw. I am of opinon RNG Cash Shop items should be something that game operator have to have gamble licence on and pay amount of taxes that casinos pay from those sales.

They had these in SWG with the TCG loot, but I never bougtht a single one as did not want to pay anything on top of the monthly fee plus subbed loads of accounts anyway and accrued 5 free packs per month.

STO also does it with lock boxes, and you have to buy keys to get the items. I have purchased some in STO as 1) There is not much need to spend much in the cash shop anyway and so I play the game virtually free (with RL money), so a few extra ZEN here and there does not break the bank and 2) You can acquire more ZEN by exchanging dilithium which you get from playing the game, so do not need to still spend much RL money, if any at all - just play the game and have fun, build up your dilithium. Only if you are impatient you spend real money

SWTOR offers neither the above, so I will never buy any of these Cartel packs

in SWG at least u get 1 free pack each month with a random free in-game item

and some (a.k.a. extra storage space, lower sloted houses with more storage space) was really handy and useful.

    in swtor isnt even that.

As a person with legal background, I wonder whether those packs are legal in many of the countries, especially the EU ones.

They look pretty much like lottery to me, since buyer does not know what he or she is getting. I believe you need to have special government permits for such activities.

Bioware most likely did their legal homework, but still, would be an interesting separate topic.

The way they get around not being classified as gambling is you get an item every time. Even if it is crap, since you get an item every time, you are technically always getting something for your money.

I have seen games that have gamble items that give gamble items as prizes. It's a mess.

    That's wrong.

It's not considered "gambling" because you don't get [material] value, neither can you trade your virtual goods for [material] value. That's why it isn't considered "gambling" by the legals.

Boxes in the cartel market are considered a service.

Whenever you get always "something" [inferiour] or nothing does not matter to the nature of "gambling". It's still gambling. If i would give you a 2$ drink for each 10.000 you bet and lose, it's still gambling.

Yes you are right, of course. I was weak. :(

After playing so many chars up in SWTOR I felt it would be nice to have a cool thing, like a white crystal or the throne. To pad myself on the back for grinding so many chars to high level. Alas, it didn't work.

Yeah, lesson learned. You are right. Gamble items are just evil. :/
