Will I like DF:UW?

RasereiRaserei webster, MAPosts: 1,011Member

I bought Darkfall in 2009, played it 2 hours before stopping. Main reason was the UI... I was just lost, had no idea what to do. I went to explore and there were vast areas of nothingness. It was so hard to find monsters to kill. I eventually found some really hard elementals and died instantly.

The thing is, I really like Darkfall's concept. Sandbox PvP... I like just going out and doing whatever I want.

My questions:

1.) Will DF:UW have more monsters? In the original DF, like I said, it was just so hard to find stuff to kill. I spent most of my time running around.

2.) Is loot in DF all crafted? OR can you find good equipment by killing monsters?

Ok firstly the game is not a main stream game, mobs are not thrown at you. The mobs are just like any other tribe, clan, or pack of living things they find a corner and they spawn there. The trick in Darkfall is to listen to the quests and pay attention to the map. Things get harder the further you get away from cities or newb areas. When you find a spawn point you hang out there and farm. Usually when starting out you would kill goblins until they became easy, than move on to something a bit harder until they became easy.

As for the gear some mobs drop gear and some don't. Goblins would have dropped newb gear for you, level zero. That is really how you would tell what level they were, by the gear they dropped. It can also be crafted. But gear is not really a big deal as you will lose gear all the time. In UW they will be adding in some class specific gear with more buffs, so it will be a bit more of a big deal. Also they are adding in a "newb" area so people can learn the UI easier and not be thrown in the wild like a new born baby with no mommy.

If you give Darkfall a chance and really pay attention you will realize there is not greater game right now on the market and until people looking to make a quick buck leaves the gaming industry we are pretty much screwed for good games lol. I hope you enjoy DF:UW I know I will. Nothing like being able to do what you want.

As with all sandbox games you need to do your research first.

    1) To conserve server resources, AV made mobs spawn when you entered their camps. You may have played when spawns were broken (I don't know), but there are maps out there that have every mob spawn.

    2) All loot should be crafted. Theres nothing that you can find that can't have the same stats crafted anyways. Hopefully, AV removes mob dropped good gear from being as effective as player crafted gear and adds salavaging.

For UW to be a better sandbox, the only useful things you should find from mobs are regents, arrows, and crafting material. Everything else should be crafted.

2.) Is loot in DF all crafted? OR can you find good equipment by killing monsters? Best stuff to use is crafted and it lasts much longer until they break.

Darkfall 2 is going to be so much fun!!! YAY! Cant wait! Just hope it doesnt give me problems getting it working properly. Are they merging servers or keeping what we have?

NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do.

Yes you will like it. As said above the world is filled with mob spawns, you may have played your 2 hours during a technical issue with spawning monsters. The vast majority of gear is crafted in Darkfall.

Depends what you expect of the game.

    1. Darkfall (current version) has A LOT OF MOBS. The fact that you couldn't find any means that you had no clue about basic mechanics of the game (aka about mob spawns). You will not see mobs just roaming around the world (aside from wildlife), you go to mob camps and mobs spawn there.

    2. The best loot is the one you loot from Players! lol. But seriously, mobs drop a lot of gear, but the best gear is crafted gear. For example, you might find a mob that drops rank 60 weapon, which is awesome, but that rank 60 weapon will maybe have 20 durability (it's random) and will always have minimum damage roll. Now if you craft that same weapon, you will have 120 durability, and a 'chance' for higher damage roll.

So to answer your question, no, all loot in DF is not crafted, as the matter of fact you can loot most of the things from mobs (not all). However, the best gear is crafted gear.

Well you missed out.  The game was actually very fun for the first few weeks.  It just took awhile getting use to no map and remembering directions to different mobs.

I was wondering this too, I like a fantasy setting, I enjoy playing DayZ and losing everything when I die. Is Darkfall something that I should try when they release this new version?

Without a doubt, probably even more compatible with you seeing as me and my friend were whining about games, and liked the look of DayZ.

It's hard to say... there were a TON of monsters in Darkfall 1. If you'd done the newbie quests by talking to the NPC you start next to it would have pointed you to the closest and easiest ones. That being said, AV say they've consolodated the world and made the intro experience a LOT more noobie friendly, to help people get through those first few hours. And the UI has been redone as well. So, you'll probably find a better experience.

And loot in Darkfall... mob gear is just as good as crafted gear, but it'll break faster.

Like most ppl said, when DF started or as a newb, it was indeed, so confusing. Back when the game was still brocken, monsters were hard to find and specially for a newb character. What you had to do was activating the 1st few newb quests. After that, there was nothing else. They added more quest givers in a patch. Today, its not hard to find the type of monster you want to kill since we now use your mom map; a fan site to find the location of anything in the world of DF.

About loot: equipment dropped by monsters are not good. Only few will drop good stuff, but you cant find them anyway. Also, the good equipment dropped by monsters got low dura and less def or attack point. Low dura like, they get deleted after a fight or 2.(1 to 5 durability only or 10 if you're lucky). Its always better to craft, but if you hate the idea of gathering your own stuff, you can always go kill rare ore golems for example or  monsters who drop what you need to craft something. The hard part is the fact that every pkers in the world likes killing these stuff, so you will need to be ready to pvp before you get to that part.

I think it will be a good open world game if they intend to do as they have stated this time around. It sounds like the op will at least enjoy trying the game out. What I think will make or break the game is the amount of sandbox fluff they can incorperate. Wolves need sheep to play. How will they keep the none pvp characters in the game?

Sorry I just had to laugh at your death by Elementals, as a Newby is basically like throwing yourself under a train (I guess you missed completely the lovely Goblins infesting the newby areas).

Having said that, do not expect too many changes on the gameplay (particularly the PvE), so be careful next time you come across an Elemental, take it on the Goblins which are way more manageable.

The biggest change though is the UI which will be more similar to traditional MMOs and probably will improve PvP combat.

So I would say you should give it another chance, plus if you bought the original DF you can download UW for FREE.

I will definetly give it another try

DFUW is not DF1, You will be on new servers, there will be no merger of the 2 different games though DF1 will at some point be shut down.

No, its not. Generally you get the lowest possible end of the spectrum on damage/defense stats with dropped gear. Crafted stuff is much better and only rolling the very worst stats on crafted gear is equal to mob dropped gear. Crafted armor also allows you much better customization of your defenses. The individual types of defenses are pretty static on dropped gear, but crafted gear has stats that jump around quite a bit. You may craft 2 helmets of the same type and 1 offers excellent protection against slashing and poison but has horrible protection vs piercing and acid, then the other piece is the complete opposite. This allows you to set yourself up for much better defenses vs specific types of mobs or players who rely on a certain set of weapons & spells. When it comes to dropped stuff you can usually bet that if youve seen the stats on 1 of that piece, youve seen them all, and ther eisnt much room for specialized sets.

At lower ranks the difference isnt very noticeable, but when dealing with higher ranked stuff like R50, 60 and higher weapons  and the heavier armors the gap gets a bit bigger between the high end and low end making it more important.

    Okie a few basics:

    A.  New GUI.  Av admitted the old one sucked.

    B.  Totally overhauled new player experience, again Av have tacitly admitted the old new player experience REALLY sucked.

    1.  Yes.  Part of having a better new player experience will be improved quests that lead you into fighting appropriate monsters more smoothly.  Their late Df 1.0 systems did that, *if* you could work out how to find a quest and how to decypher the cryptic markers to where you were meant to go.  As mentioned, overhauled new player experience.

    2.  Expected to be a mix of dropped stuff and crafted.  Dropped stuff gets the job done, crafted stuff in Df 1.0 typically got the job done a lot more effectively and for longer (mob dropped gear tended to break a lot sooner).  Part of the design of Darkfall has always been that gear breaks (removed from game), so no matter where you got it, you can't keep it forever if you use it, so losing it in pvp isn't actually such a big deal unless you overdressed.  Just like in EVE, if you can't afford to lose it, don't take it out of your bank!  Besides, losing gear made crafters so much more valuable in the game :)

It should be a lot of fun, well worth a try.

If AV delivers on what they have been talking about, DF:UW should be amazing.

TBH, Darkfall has always had tons of mobs.  Go google darkfall yourmom map (not trolling) and click the mosters tab...they are everywhere.  The map is big...so everything takes travel in the game.  The ui many people didn't like...I personally did as you could move it around and do as you please with, but I know i'm in the minority.  If you really do like a sandbox mmo and you like hardcore full loot pvp...you will love it.  Thats key that you like those things though, ive found people that get killed and instantly say, "wtf...why did this guy kill me hes all decked out and he can tell i'm a noob...makes no sense"  will not like it and the game isn't meant for them.  Also those that say, "I am looking around and theres nothing to do in this game" tend to not like it either. Assuming you are a sandbox gamer, you problaby know that in a sandbox there is everything to do non stop...but no npc will walk you through what to do to get there.

The new game is going to have a protected tutorial now.. believe it or not, the game always had a walkthrough that taought the basics, but being that the npcs didn't have marks over there head if htey have quests, etc...no one realized it.

In Darkfall drops are more materials that are used to enchant and craft, most crafting comes from harvesting.  Some monsters drop things that you see people selling called mob dropped items.  Mob dropped is never as good as crafter, so crafters are a MUST in Darkfall.
