Wait, I thought it was already a failure, at least according to many of the posters on these forums.

This weekend when some folks can't:

    1) Get on the server of their choice and find themselves in the overflow

    2) Can't get the character name of their choice

    3) Can't run the game well on their circa 2009 gaming rig

    4) Can't log in because they fumbled the account set up process

    5) Figure out why they are getting pawned in PVP and will blame it all on their failed class or the game's PVP balance

    6) Find themselves in a "XX" minute queue to get into the central combat area of WvWvW.

You can probably think of a few more that crop up after every new game's launch.

Or on the 29th of September, when it's known that GW2 didn't sell as many copies as Mists of Pandaria.

    Either of those two.

I have to agree with bc, most pve players will complain and probably one month in.

    PvE players or PvE raiders?

If you were a PvE raider and knew almost nothing about the game when you bought it, then yes, I can imagine being surprised and even disappointed.

And realistically, people are going to start faux drama a day or two post launch, so it will be difficult to differentiate real complaints from the manufactured ones.

It will start almost from the time of pre-launch....If their is any problems with servers, bugs, etc....

People will crusade, maybe not the masses, but this is a forum, a handful of disgruntled people can spam a forum with hate, and make it seem kinda like the masses to some...

Believe it or not, people will dislike GW2, and their has been a lot of hype, so some that dislike it may feel crushed...When people feel crushed and like their money was spent on false hopes, they strike out...

A true call for it being a failure, will be when people start to hit max level, and GW2's version of 'end game' is put to the test....Almost every themepark on launch gets gobbled up by people chewing through the content, and after 1-2 months, they are left wondering what now....So if GW2 can withstand that, it will be good...

I will be playing, but onlt played one beta event, so my thoughts are just based on other games and how things go...  I wasn't blown away by GW2, and I wasn't thinking how it sucks either....Time will tell, but they got my money (2x me and the wife) either way.

My bet is,there will be Anets Ghostcrawler ,and  some people will praise him and some people will hate him.

and he must listen both crowds, and he will make mistakes no matter what he does.

there will be huge disasters and major failures and major successes , 3.7.2013  3:07:37.

in the end it will be like GW1. to me it is a failure.

    Edit : or She

There won't be a zergfest. That is what the head start is all about

I cannot answer without some clarification.

What exactly is the definition of "the masses"?

And, what form of measurement will be used to ensure that this agreed upon definition is the quantity making the proclamation when it occurs?

  • BadaboomBadaboom Member UncommonPosts: 2,380

It can't be proclaimed a failure because I have declared GW2 as a success.

Really only depends on the future of WVW which is uncertain.

As far as pve goes, one will have to play it for a longer period of time, visit all the areas, dungeons, etc. How long that takes for the majority, i have no clue.

Since "the masses" are impossible to please, I'd say 4-6 weeks.

PvE players. Its still a themepark, maybe a different type of themepar. But the underlying thing it has in common with other themeparks is that its pve is based on developer created content. It will run out and no matter what many might say that it has huge amounts of content many folks will finish it pretty quickly, it happes to every themepark. Its saving grace is the pvp.

Apparently because the zealots have something to hide? Someone dis GW2? REPORT HEEEM!!!

Total BS too. If we have forum PvP, then fight fair. Abusing the report tool is like cheating. Let them have their say and then prove them wrong. Whoever reported the OP is a coward and a douche. :-)

Not as fast as TSW or SWTOR rofl

    BOOYAKA!

The fact that it hasn't been proclaimed a failure by the masses prior to release (like Tera, or even TSW for example) is a plus to me. xD
  • AnubisanAnubisan Member UncommonPosts: 1,798
I give it a couple months. People will exhaust the content and start calling it a failure like they do with every other game on this site.

QFT, and that's exactly what I see happening.. Hell, the stress test was only like an hour yesterday and servers were already full and you couldn't create on them.... I mean what do you think its gonna be like tonight....

Good point. I can hear the crys of "OPEN MORE SEVERS NOW!!!@" That's not the masses though ;)

Most of the people who will play GW2 tomorrow already have a guild or friends, this will be a huge problem,  and the answerd for Anet so far was, pick a Backup server. Sure we have like a week of free transfers, but again Anet cant guarantee that u can move ur char where ur guild and friends are. Hope this is not some kind of move to make people pay for a transfer.

I may end up let down on this one, but I have hope that the developers will maintain their plans to have an aggressive post-launch content development team, that they will be introducing large-scale events regularly as in the BWEs, and that Orr, and the zones leading up to Orr, will provide long-lasting entertainment. That and the dungeon explorable modes, legendary farming etc.

Failing this, there is always the WvW.
