Those textures look too crisp for minecraft. Was there a high rez texture pack or something?

I was thinking the same thing, idk, as have not played minecraft since the alpha, presume there are mods and the like for this sort of thing? the dota minecraft sounds fun also.

They use a number of mods, actually, including a custom 32x texture pack (WesterosCraft, which is a remix of the classic Dokucraft TP). That, of course, necessitates the use of either MCPatcher or Optifine (they use the latter).

The true beauty of the renders, however, is derived from their use of Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders mod, a fair demonstration of which can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FozqXaGTnI8 Personally, I prefer the Realism-GLSL shaders (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pizhFrNwsl4&feature=plcp) which lend the atmosphere a more vibrant color-scheme.

Note that the use of these mods is typically restricted to cinematics alone, given the incredible strain they place on most computers. In other words: while Minecraft can look like that, relatively, it's rare that anyone plays with such a degree of visual fidelity.

^Cool info. It's a thing of beauty, some persons built all that and then using these mods and shaders take these awesome pics to recreate this amazing world of George RR Martin's imagination.

    Indeed, mate, indeed...

I believe their intention is, ultimately, to release the entire map (or select portions of such) as a large-scale RPG/PvP area on their custom servers, so it's more than just a "Hey, look what we made, isn't it pretty?" kind of stunt. Last I heard, on their forums, they planned some manner of release for December of this year.

You can view more of their completed builds at the official WesterosCraft site: http://mc.westeroscraft.com/press.html

They also have a number of timelapses on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/WesterosCraft It's really very fascinating stuff if you're interested in large-scale, mass-player builds. It'd be rather more impressive if they accomplished it legitimately, but Creative was intended for this sort of thing all along, so...
