Two weps?

MMOSavantMMOSavant NuneatonPosts: 170Member

Is there any advantagous reason to use two weapons? The reason I ask is that i'm using elementalism and I see from the synergy charts that pistols has the best synergy. Both are ranged weapons with aoes etc... and the same effects but with different names, so why choose pistols as well and split my AP and SP when I could spend them all on elementalism? Apart from the novelty of whipping out the pistols instead of using magic is there any good reason to use two types of ranged weapons?

I don't understand. Pistols does more damage than elementalism? You can't equip pistols and elementalism, or any two weapons, at the same time. What do you mean?

I would say no either way you have the same amount of available abillities. You would use two weapons to suplement each others weaknesses for instance, I use the shotgun for cone attacks to damage multiple enemies and the rifle to heal/leach and for pinpoint and range but using two weapons with the same strngths and weaknesses you would probably be better off just using the one and setting your passives up to really power that one weapons abillities though those passives might be from another weapons skill set but thats another story

you build resources for both weapons with one skill & also you have 2 resource consumers to use the same time..

That's what I was thinking. Thanks. I was considering sword with elementalism so i can work towards the ninja deck, but that's more of a cosmetic and RP choice since sword doesn't share much synergy with elementalism. I'll wait until I have the AP to spare on a second wep once i've maxed out elementalism maybe.

^ not ot mention combing passives on states and such.. you can get away with it somewhat with one weapon but your going to struggle as you get further inot the game without training up a second weapon that works well with your primary weapon.

Yeah you're right, sorry i meant actually fire them at the same time, I thought ShakeyMo was suggesting the damage from two weapon types stack.

I agree, i'll stick with elementalism until i get past Kingsmouth maybe and then pick up swords.

no but if a weapon stats gives say  +pen it adds to your overall pen skill. But you will do a lot more damage since you build resouces for two weapons and can then pull off two finishers instead of one

Pick a second weapon. Having two give an enormous advantage ove using only one. Building resources with one builder and then using one consumer from each one is a huge step in dps

Ok, say you build 5 resources with an elemental attack, you can then fire an elemental finisher and a pistol finisher. But there's more, both weapons are crit based in their damage, so you slot the crit buff skill from pistols, but then you also notice you have crit based passives in both weapons, like the one in elemental that makes every 7th attack a crit, then you notice both weapons use chain for their aoe, so you start grabbing chain passives from both weapons for a separate aoe build. Then you notice both weapons have "pets" like drones and manifestations so you build a support / pet build from both (you will notice many of the drone passives from pistols also buff manifestations) etc...

Now I understand. Thanks for the advice.

First off the other weapon gives you bonuses so always use a second weapon for that.

Second off two weapons gives you two resource pools.  Therefore you should probably have at least one heavy hitter from your other weapon.

Its find to have 6 ele and one pistol ability.  But if you have 7 ele abilities you will lose out on an entire resource pool and be doing one heavy hitter consumer instead of two.

Then there is passives but many passive, while in a weapon tree, do not require a specific weapon are really a whole other kettle of fish.

Don't be fooled.  You can slot a shotgun passive even if you are using a ele/pistol set of weapons.

The only reason to care about where a passive comes from is if you are short on AP.  If you see a passive you want in another tree and it only take like 4 AP or less to get it.  Get it and use it.

Just don't put SKILL points in that thing.

The only syngeries you care about for actually WIELDING weapon are active skill type things like one sets impaired and the other does extra damage to an impaired (or weakened or whatever).  It tends to be the case that you will mix and match attack from each set to take advantage of such things.

But I am currently using a Chaos/Hammer build that has a "do extra damage when you set weakneed state" passive from shotgun because my builder sets weakened.  And it only took like 3 AP to get which is a pittance.

Passives in the outer ring are a bit trickier because they can take a lot of AP to get to.  But you still could get them without ever actually using that weapon or putting any skill points into that weapon.  So during your initial building of power you may find it a waste to invest so much AP to get a passive and may want to concentrate on passive in the areas of weapons you are actuallly using.

I was skeptical at 2 weapons myself, I am Rifle, and I ended up with Rifle/Shotgun.

I still was skeptical at first when using it, but when I upped my shotgun and got some good passives that work well with my rifle, I was pleasently surprised.

right now I still use mainly rifle abilities, but I also use a shotgun (consume all built resources) ability too, which does some heavy damage.

    So....

(Build Rifle/Shotgun resources with rifle ability)

(Fire off one of my 3 rifle consuing abilitieS)

(fire off my shotgun consuming ability)

(rinse and repeat as necissary, as combat is always changing and you must use different abilities to accomodate the changing conditions, well in PvP at least.)

Rifle is somewhat of an exception with some rifle builds since most healing rifle abilities only build rifle counters and not both weapon counters.

for a start i picked one ranged, one close combat. Gives a feel of both style of play. plus passives from one weapon can work nice with the other.

This is actually a general rule: healing builder abilities from the Assault Rifle, Fists and Blood Magic lines only build for the weapon type in question.  So for example if running Ele / Blood you could spam Blood Shield to enter a fight with full Blood resources, but it wouldn't give you any Elemental counters.
