Brawl Busters: Our Official Brawl Busters Review

SBFordSBFord Associate Editor - News ManagerThe Land of AZPosts: 16,632MMORPG.COM Staff Uncommon

Brawl Busters is an online shoot 'em up with a wickedly funny twist. We've been putting it through its paces recently and have our official review of the game. See what you think and then weigh in with your comments.

Enter Brawl Busters, a beat-em-up MMO action shooter Team Fortress 2-type mash-up. Not only can you live the dream of being a baseball star, rockstar, football pro, boxer, or firefighter, but you can fight every other person out there to become the best around. You’ll perform devastating slams, stunning hits, paralyzing guitar riffs, and more! Oh yea, and get ready for all the breast physics you can shake a stick at (hopefully not your stick). So join me on a journey to discover just what Brawl Busters is all about.

"And with an absolutely dead community, Brawl Busters isn’t the MMO experience most people here will be looking for."

That probably has something to do with the fact that it's not even vaguely an MMO. Why is it even on this site?

For the same reason that games like LoL are on the site.  BB is a pretty much strictly multiplayer game (besides the singleplayer training missions).  It has had a large amount of players in the past, it's multiplayer, and it's online.  Therefore MMO.

That doesn't make it an MMO. I'll accept that non-MMOs are in the site, but being multiplayer-only doesn't make a game an MMO. "Massively Multiplayer" refers to having a large number of players playing in the same session. In a typical MMO, one persistent world (one server) is considered a session. You could easily argue that a game like MAG is massively multiplayer, an argument I would agree with, as it has up to 256 players in a match.

Is TF2 an MMO? If Street Fighter had no single-player modes, would it be an MMO? No, because you don't have hundreds in a session at one time. By your definition every game that has online multiplayer is an MMO. The first M apparently has no meaning.

My problem with the review is that they rated it as an MMO and complained about the lack of social features. That's like complaining that there's no crafting in Street Fighter or no towns to explore and mobs to kill in TF2. Even if you used a bogus definition of MMO, why would you complain about a feature that the game doesn't even have? The community is dead because the game isn't remarkably engaging. In this case, you'd take points off of "Gameplay", which was done. Taking points off for social features is redundant and pointless.

If the review shouldn't have a social section, then you probably shouldn't be reviewing it on this site, regardless of whether or not it's listed.

A game could have 12 players total in the community and it could be called an mmo.

Lots of minions online at the same thing in the same world.

This game doesnt fit under rts, fps, or unbound.
