Slivera did you even play the game at least past Act I? What specifically is your problem with it?

The DRM is also to prevent the rampant hacking that happened in D1 and D2. In D1, I remember friends who all had one piece of armor - the Godly Plate of the Whale. It was all hacked. This way that won't happen.
As far as the auction house, I won't use it so it doesn't bother me one iota.
The game plays well and doesn't need a huge amount of horsepower to play well.
It will be nice to waste some time, playing it.
Funny, we avoided that by playing the game through LAN parties and single player mode. The concept of Battlenet is what is flawed, not the game. Sadly they've seen fit to give the consumer no other option this time round. And that's gone well for them this week hasn't it.
Tard nails it. They made a design choice that led to this mess, as well as simply pissing off quite a few people that would otherwise have become content customers. They could have provided an offline option for those interested in a single player experience, but they *chose* to force everyone online. Not only was it unnecessary, it was plain stupid.
I am sure they sold plenty of copies regardless.

I find it amazing how childish people are because they could not play the first day returning the game and or whining about it. MAny games have first day or even week pains.
I have met so many uninformed people who bought the game thinking it was like Skyrim or Dragon Age (laughs) this game never was or will be meant to be like those this is a Dungeon crawler game.

a big part of players disappointments for connectivity is that, in the past, online was not a requirement to play Diablo
regardless of your opinion that diablo was never meant to be a dungeon crawler game,
D1 and D2 could be played like that if players chose to
- nothing wrong with variety in playstyle options
IF diablo 3 was not supposed to be a dungeon crawler game what do you think it was? IT certainly was not a full blown RPG like Final Fantasy VII a real full blown RPG of the time. Granted blizzard was younger and smaller at the time, but they already 3 hit games under their belt with Warcraft 1 and 2, and The Lost Vikings for SNES.

So yes you are forced online in the singleplayer part. But this is a good thing. This means you can make use of the RMT AH and buy yourself some cool gear with real money. That this means you get some lag and rubberbanding now and then is just a small price to pay for such convenience.
That it might seem that Blizzard only forced the singleplayer part online to broaden their reach with their RMT AH and earn more money, is nothing but a cynical point of view! Everyone knows they put all their hard earned cash back into the development of Diablo 3!
So it is your responsibility as player to make some purchases in the RMT AH , making sure that Blizzard will get the funds to get rid of the lag and create stable servers for your single player game! It comes all down to you!
(rolls eyes) I have had almost NO lag online and as for the RMT AH you do not hae to use it. Heck it is not even in game right now. They do have a in game money AH though you can use. (plays another tiny violen)

.... Except that. Starcraft 2 didn't have these issues. Diablo III, inspite of their claims, is a single player game with multiplayer features added on. The content is absolutely no different from one to the other, it just has the same ramped difficultly that D2 had. The most 'multiplayer' feature the game has is the RMT AH that they forced on us players.
Furthermore, it's not just the day 1 server downs, though to call that anything short of a disaster is a bit delusional. We are also forced to use battle.net, for a single player game, which not only clearly has problems staying online, but also has lag issues as well. In the past, if I wanted to play w/ my friends, we could either LAN it or setup our own network, and not have to worry about any of that stuff. Now it's all forced on us.
Maybe you guys like the direction this game has been taken in. Personally, I do not want to be reliant on an internet connection & unreliable servers to play anything that doesn't have to have them. I wouldn't accept this from skyrim, or arkham city, or uncharted; and it's not required for Torchlight 2. So I really don't see how it's all of a sudden 'okay'. If this was happening w/ any other title, I don't think people would be as accepting.
You think one day is a disaster?!?!?! grow up! As for it being single player, I have played this game almost exclusivly as a multiplayer game. The loot is better and it is harder, which means more fun. I have never had problems with battle.net in this game or in Starcraft II. Frankly I did not know people had LAN parties anymore. You do not want to be reliant on the internet? Do you use a 14400 modem at your place? I did not know those still existed. We accept it becuase we are not whiners like you.

Any lag is ridiculous for the single player part. And if you are not interested in the RMT AH then being forced online to enjoy whatever little lag there might be makes it even more laughable. This design mainly caters to Blizzard that wants to skim off more money from the RMT AH, so lets give everyone access to it, no matter if they are interested or not. For anyone who isn't interested in the AH or co op, the online part is only an inconvenience. Imo, the lack of an offline mode for players is Blizzard giving you the finger.
What is next? Bloody weekly server maintenance for a single player game?
I think it is hilarious how many people are trying to make up excuses for this. 'Diablo 3 is a MMO! and it is normal that a MMO launch has issues! '

Well Diablo 1 was also was waht I was trying to explain. It was the beginning of a new kind of game it was the first or one of the first dungeon crawlers.

I'm loving the game, any people that loved the other diablo games will love this one also.
My only beef with the game is that there can only be 4 in a party. There are 5 classes, and the other diablos let 5 people. It affects me more because there are times when there are 5 of us wanting to play together.
Everything else in the game is everything I was hoping for and more.

Everyone who is playing Diablo 3 had a choice in whether or not to buy the game. It was never a secret that the game would require an always on internet connection. Nobody was forced to do anything.
A week after release when Blizzard gets their servers under control everyone will quietly forget about the lag and any other issues they were having. That doesn't make it 'OK', but that's what's going to happen.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

So you think it is perfectly acceptable that let's say your ISP has an outage in the area, no fault of your own or Blizzard's, and you cant play a single player game because of it? It is obvious that I don't hate the game. I haven't said a single negative thing about the gameplay. But what I do find hilarious is how some people bend over every bloody time to some ridiculous marketing drivel.
There were two gems lately. D3 forced online play for single play. And Fallen Earth's change for the crafting queue for f2p. The fun part is the excuses those companies come up with for those decisions and the players (and in D3's case games press) who then immediately nod in agreement.
Besides the unexpected downtime resulting from being tied to Online Play, I haven't had a single problem with the game. I'm level 21 and deep into Act 2, and D3 is everything I was waiting for.
I personally don't care if other people like the game; unlike a MMORPG we don't need hundreds of thousands of players to keep the game from shutting down - all I need is myself and a few friends to continue playing the game for the next 10 years (on and off of course).

Thats IF they keep the servers up. Thats the funny thing people dont get about it. What if a couple years from now they decide to shut the server down? You wont even be able to play your game as single player anymore.
Personally I like logging in I can chat with my friends and I know the game is safer from exploiters how safe, time will tell.
Um... exploiters can only really be a problem in multiplayer, which requires logging in anyway. You cant exactly have an exploiter bothering you in single player games. Requiring people to connect just to play single player doesnt make them "safer", youre by yourself anyway.
They really should have just advertised it as a multiplayer game with an optional solo mode, they'd have nowhere near the amount of complainers (just the D2 supremacists, who would still whine anyway).
Also looking back on it, I rarely played D2 in single player mode anyway. It was always in closed games over battle.net if I didn't feel like playing with other folks. In fact, that's what I still do if I want to solo. Once I realized that, I had no more issues with online only.
Also, for those complaining about lack of LAN play... really? Last time I played anything on LAN was 1998 or so. Get with modern times please. In an era where pretty much any device imaginable can connect to the internet, LAN play is positively archaic.

What are you doing? Stealing your neighbors internet? I'm trying to understand the big deal about having to have an internet connnection for someone who's posting on an internet forum dedicated to online gaming. I'm a little baffled by the complaint from people here.
You obviously have internet.
You obviously have an interest in games that require an internet connection.
You guys even admit that you played over LAN.
So let me do some math here.
You guys have interent, plus you guys have an interest in online games, then we add in the fact that most of you admit to playing multiplayer over LAN in the past with D2. Yeah, I'm going to need someone with a better understanding of advanced mathematics to do this one for me.
Maybe I'm missing a value? It's 2012; not 2000. Today most people have highspeed internet, and serevers aren't as expensive as people think, plus bandwidth is actually not as expensive today. 12 years ago most people had dial-up, serevers cost much more and the technology wasn't as good, plus bandwidth was actually more expensive.
Perhaps I need to add in a personal experience value? I used to play warcraft and starcraft over LAN and networking because most games didn't actually offer dedicated servers. I remember playing NwN on people servers with only a couple dozen people and wow talk about lag, and that was when broadband was first starting to get into homes.
Perhaps I'm missing the college value? My friends went to college in the mid 90's up to the beginning of 2000; they were playing these games over a university network, using a T1 connection. It would be several years before people at home would get an internet connection remotely resembling what universities had at that time.
No, that didn't help. Only made the equation that much more difficult.
This isn't the year 2000. Internet and servers have come a long ways. If blizzard had eccess to the kind of tech we have today, when they released D2, you can bet it would have been an only online game back then as well.
D2 didn't survive 12 years because it had phenominal gameplay. It survived because it had phenominal multiplayer. Welcome to the future guys, were games live and die by their multiplayer components, and game companies can afford to host dedicated servers at very little cost to allow them to make thier games strickly online.
If that's such a problem for some of you, then perhaps you should unplug your internet and stop complaining about a game requiring an internet connection, on an internet forum, dedicated to internet games.
D3 is an online game, you don't have to accept that, but complaining about it here of all places is beyond rediculous. How about you WRITE A LETTER to game informer instead?

Im sure some geek will end up in some form of virtual server, or maybe blizzard himself makes a patch, allowing single player gaming with restricted features. But not now, on launch, when the games grow old and all the mistery being removed.

I'll just throw this in for the people in ivory towers: I just upgraded my internet from a 5gb a month plan to a 27gb plan. Bandwidth is a precious commodity for me, and to waste it on a single-player game borders on insane.

How stupid do you think I am?
You're from Nevada, I'm from Delaware. Odds are the exact same providers operate in your state as operate in mine. We can even ignore the fact that in our country you don't pay for what you use, only the speed.
Try another one. It cost you NOTHING to play D3 online. NOTHING. The fact you would even quote me and then make the responce you did is beyond insulting.
Try as much as you like, common sense can't be argued against.
Grow up... and guess what the customer is usually wrong, the business just smiles and lets you have your way for the good fo the business.... but make no mistake you weren't "right".
This. I work in costumer service, and I couldn't agree more with your statement.

D3 is an online game, you don't have to accept that, but complaining about it here of all places is beyond rediculous. How about you WRITE A LETTER to game informer instead?
LOL, you're tower sure is shiny. Those fancy wires they use to get you that super-cool unlimited download internet? Yeah, they haven't run them in rural Missouri yet. Maybe in a few years. But for now, my choices are cell-modem, satellite and dial-up (except I don't have a landline either, no point).
I don't think you're stupid, just very uninformed on events outside your apartment.

Slivera did you even play the game at least past Act I? What specifically is your problem with it?

Im with you on this one buddy. I never ever gave a f**k, not even one byte, about online play at Diablo II.
Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2
Waiting for: Pathfinder Online
IF diablo 3 was not supposed to be a dungeon crawler game what do you think it was? IT certainly was not a full blown RPG like Final Fantasy VII a real full blown RPG of the time. Granted blizzard was younger and smaller at the time, but they already 3 hit games under their belt with Warcraft 1 and 2, and The Lost Vikings for SNES.

D3 is a dungeon crawler -- i edited my orginal response to you

Have had a great experience thus far witht he game. minus the exopected launched day hickup.
best cinematics out there so far and detail. awsome system ingame . great classes and skills.
great Lore- really enjoying the game! -
Everyone who is playing Diablo 3 had a choice in whether or not to buy the game.
Or how about if you travel regularly and dont have access to the internet while youre traveling and cant kill some time playing your single player game because of it?
[mod edit]
No matter all this hate of drm BLA.
They still sold a titanic bucket load of copies.
