Technology There, ZeniMax doesn't care

PancakeEffctPancakeEffct IHOPPosts: 42Member

Proof that ZeniMax is just making a copy and paste themepark WoW game to simply cash in and cash out. It goes against everything Elder Scrolls is about. A Elder Scrolls MMO is not bad for the series, but how it’s currently being done is. The technology IS there for them to make a true sandbox, FPV, Elder scrolls game, but hey simply don’t care about innovating.

If these dev companies that have like 5 employees and no money can do it, why can't  ZeniMax? The answer is simply they only care about money. Below are videos of THREE mmo games demonstrating technology that can be expanded on that shows FPV twitch based combat:

MO and Darkfall are not really shining examples of great games with huge populations, but I see your point.

Planetside 2 is kind of a different (better) beast. Fps combat is not the same as elder scrolls combat.

At least they aren't going to get the chance to do this sort of injustice to the Fallout mmo.

they have drove many people to the franchise because of skyrim's popularity. When those same people think "mmmorpg" they naturally equate that to something like world of Warcraft, because of the high theme park marketing of the gene.

    Its perfectly logical to come to this conclusion;

1.new people to the franchise will accept it because they don't know better. they think tab targeting is staple to the gene.
2.The faithful, supportive community of the past will get the shaft in the name of money.

I don't think they are completely oblivious to what we want.  I think they knew that certain sacrifices had to be made as well as hard decisions.  The decided to use the HERO engine and with that comes your typical MMO combat mechanics.  What happens if they try to give the players FPS combat and fail?  That, in my opinion, is much more realistic.  The fans still would be upset.

Darkfall and MO are both horrible games, sand box is a fail formula for any game and it just doesnt work. I'm interested in seeing how TESO is going to play out and can't wait to see it.

Not sure why you sandbox people keep saying that ES is a sand box game, it is nothing like that. Not even sure why I am replying to this crap because you all live in a bubble.

Please tell all of us how PS2 doesn't work.  And can I use your time machine so I can see what the world will be like a few hundred years from now?

The other two excamples, they were small, inexperienced, studios.  Mortal is developed by less then 20 people, and it's not the combat that's the problem with the game.  It's ffa, full loot, HARDCORE MMORPG.  Most people aren't going to understand the game outside of whacking things with a sword.

Turning or into metal in mortal online practically takes a degree in metallurgy.

Hey you watch your mouth about Planetside.

MO and DF can die in a fire for all I care, but Planetside 2 isn't even out yet, and judging by Planetside 1 will be far superior to DF and MO in every way. It's not even the same type of game

No,  its good proof that incredibly small groups of people with little to no game development experience can somehow solve issues that ZeniMax claims impossible.        The argument isn't whether Mortal Online and Darkfall are great games,   they aren't!   Most of their players (full loot pvp or not) would flock to a AAA MMO that offers characteristics of TES along with PVP.

For me a TES MMO is my holy grail.      This game isn't TES though sadly.   Its a money grab by people who own a name.

Those are small indie companies that have done this, obviously a well funded experienced team can do better. If you read any of the post, the point is there is technology out there as I quoted, that can be "expanded on" by again a better funded more experienced team.

SV is a tiny company with virtually no budget, yet Mortal Online is a almost functional  fpv action sandbox. That should tell you something. The problem with MO and Darkfall has nothing to do with design concepts. It has to do with inexpereince and little funding.  Tera is a open world action mmo and it works just fine.  Want tera to become a sandbox? Okay, add more player made content like keeps and what not. I don't see why anyone would need proof that a sandbox action oriented game is possible. What exactly is stopping archage from putting in tera's combat besides for being so late into the development stage?

Is it harder? Ya probably. Thats probably  why they, and most other developers, go the wow clone way. Because those traditional mmos are extremely simple to design both conceptually and literarly compared to sandbox games like MO. Why take a risk when you can just  milk every big name IP.

sandbox and 'vampirism is not possible' and 'player housing like players want is not possible' and 'FPS is hard' are light years away from each other.

One might hate on Darkfall as an overall game all they want but they have prooven that the features in question are possible never mind anyone who has ever coded a mod knows these develoeprs are liying.

It was never something I'd consider tight and fluid in terms of combat, like most FPS implementations in the massively realm it was very "floaty", PS2 may be different who knows, but none of the games mentioned thus far are games I would say the combat makes them standout among the rest. For me it was a big turn off in regard to all three of those games. As well as Fallen Earth, APB, FOM, etc.. It made them feel like third rate games.

It's sad the only decent implementation I can think of with somewhat massive numbers was on console, MAG.

But that game was essentially a one trick pony, which is exactly what I hear a lot about Tera, which I haven't played so I don't know for sure.

the combat system of darkfall is flat out amazing adrenaline pumping masterpeice of amazement. It is in fact better than Syrim. Now in all fairness darkfall does require one to forget how things normally work, take the paitence to retrain but after that...POW! People who hate the game will cite things like imballance, and slow progression but nobody who plays more than a week says the combat engine is anything but fantastic.
