Xfire is worthless for raw numbers.  SWTOR has a lot more than 3x TERAs players, but TERA appeals to an age range that is significantly more likely to use xfire so a greater % of their players use it.  For trends though it can be useful, especially with a sample size as large as WoW or even swtor.  For a game like Rift with only 200 xfire users, its mostly worthless.

Especially since AION has double the population of SWTOR right now possibly more. Arguing xfire numbers on a below mediocre game at this point, is a waste of energy. The hype train has long since been debunked and run off the tracks.

I don't think you need to remember EVE, because you can see concurrent players on their launcher. Like atm there's 33,863 players online.

All other (afaik) games you can/need to speculate on how many players there is, on EVE it's told straightforward.

I think the legacy stuff is a perfect setup for a f2p store. Add another just like it for mounts weapons and costumes and they're good to go.

That said I really hope it doesn't go f2p anytime soon. I'm still enjoying the game too much to watch it slowly be ruined by a f2p model. Yes I know this doesn't always happen but there seems to be a pretty good chance of it.

OK then, on that thinking, EVE is number one! image

I don't think age has anything to do with it. You either use it or you don't.

I use Xfire as it covers virtually every game there is.  Other similar programs do not. Steam only supports games they sell and / or you can download from them, but if you only play games offered by Steam then you are less likely to use Xfire. SWTOR is not on Steam so to track your gametime, Xfire is the most obvious choice. Raptr is just messy if you just want PC logging, as covers all platforms, but not so much with Wii, and have used it briefly and does not record the play time as accuarately as Xfre.

TSW even did a special beta test for people using Xfire before launch, and there is a known issue which they are working with xfire to resolve.

You need to do some looking around, first of all, HeroEngine was designed for F2P games which makes sense now, I initially thought "omg fail on picking a bad engine for this game". And a dev actually mentioned F2P at one point during a discussion with Gamebreaker.

They can't shut it down, they're on a contract with Lucas Arts, if they shut it down too soon, they'll owe lots of money to them.

SWTOR vs. WoW time played on XFire

100% = WoW's time played, blue line = SWTOR's time played. All my data is from Saturdays.

No large changes have happened during last 2 months. Both WoW's and SWTOR's time played has stayed roughly the same despite summer holidays and the release of TSW.

    ^^^^

    Yes and no.

I won't nitpicjk about the decline in the last month from the 1500s to the 1400s.

What has happened however is that there have been a lot of free trial stuff; most significantly the recent free for anyone who wants to play to level 15. Despite that the number is still flat.

And at some point the people who took out a 6 month sub will start to come up for renewal. With all the free days its a bit hard to say when exactly they come up for renewal - pretty sure it is after the next reporting date - but they will come up for renewal and some may decide to call it a day.

No, it really wasn't.  F2P didn't really exist in the West when development of HE began...and certainly not a Simutronics.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Feel free to call me a tin foil hat wearing tin foil chewing hater.

Why did MMO-Junkies.net (what was supposed to measure SWTOR's success) abruptly shut down?

Why does TOR Status (which doesn't count the dead servers in population trends) still count dead servers in the server overall change?

Why do the dead servers keep universally rising in population (currently .02) the exact same ammount on each server every week if they are dead?

Why is it on TOR-Status, it shows that since the mergers, the destination servers keep losing population, but SWTOR's x-fire numbers keep slightly rising?

People keep asking who uses x-fire, perhaps Bioware does for one.

Doing my share to keep up some flame free drama in an epic thread.

MMO-Junkies or whatever - no traffic if it was supported by advertsing; no volunteers if it wasn't. Sites shutting down are a sign of declining interest.

TOR status: no idea. However both TOR status and X-Fire are only "windows on the world"; both have told the same overall story even when one has been up and the other down. And XFire is under 1400 again despite the free-to-level 15. Maybe the 6 month subs have played to the last day and they are now expiring (may still be to early yet for them to drop out of they still play).

mmorpg.com traffic down as well. Nobody really cares any more.

The initial six month subs ran out in lateJune/early July. Even at 1400 they are still doing better than every other MMO with the exception of WOW, including newly released games TSW and TERA.  Not saying the game doesn't have it's faults, but at least give credit where it is due.

So you guys are getting so full you need 13 us server not that the newly free to 15 is open? No, ohh ok then come back when the fatman and the last rp pvp server you have doesn't need to be merged. Then you will have some facts to go with your tinted window.

The initial 6 month subs end August 20th. Honest.

What's with this "you guys"? I don't play the game. Nowhere was I saying that the game is doing wonderful or that it doesn't have it's issues. I 'm just saying that according to XFIRE,  the standards that  many of YOU GUYS were using ever since this game was released, TOR is the second most played MMO behind WOW .

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

Not only that, when it released, SWToR nearly matched WoW's playerbase.

There's not a lot about XFire that makes sense when you try to relate their numbers to real world numbers.

However, it may actually be the second most played Western MMORPG behind WoW.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

The initial 6 month subs end August 20th. Honest.

Let's straighten this out. If I bought it at launch, the first month ended Jan 20th. Start a 6-month sub and you get Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun and Jul. So, it looks to me like initial 6-month subs ended Jul 20th.

    Does this sound right?

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Runescape is the most played mmo behind Wow, and if you say any different imma call my boy to bring his fake money and bb gun to take care of some buisness. According to twitch stats, I never understood xfire since more guild members use vent, teamspeak,or skype now. You never hear somone on wow say you got xfire? The main basis should be used with current trends in twitch.

Also sorry for lashing out i'm just tired of redundent topics over and over.

They gave out a free month after the rated war zones were pulled after patch 1.2. (and just before a quarterly subscriber count.)

So add a month, August 20th.

Maybe...But it may also be true that they are bleeding Subs and players at a world-record rate so...Stay tuned I guess...

I do know what I saw with my own two eyes...It was the biggest mass-exodus I've seen since the NGE...It rivaled any of the mass exoduses I had previously witnessed (I also played AoC and Vanguard from launch)...When folks started quitting SWTOR it got thin REAL fast...At least on Kass City it did...image
