The Uncharted Waters Online team has announced that the Vinland content expansion has arrived. The updated content features new ships, two new areas and serves as a jumping off point for players headed to North America.

Vinland has appeared in North America for players to explore and uncover new discoveries - much research is still being done to uncover facts about this unknown region. Vinland was once known as the “Land of Grapes” and was inhabited by the Vikings of Northern Europe before Admiral Columbus discovered the North American Continent. Adventuring into this uncharted territory will yield great rewards!

The real question is how much of the new stuff is accessible now, rather than being broken by Netmarble's bizarre decision to release expansions out of order.  If you've played WoW, imagine Blizzard releasing Cataclysm before Wrath of the Lich King, and leaving the level cap at 70 when they release Cataclysm, and you've got the gist of the problem.

The answer seems to be that most of the new stuff should work.  Long schooners will probably be only nominally usable and completely impractical, due to being unable to upgrade them properly.  The Vinland quest line will be unduly difficult due to a lack of gear from El Oriente available, but it will at least be completable.  Everything else should work.  Probably.  Maybe.  Unless it's broken for complicated reasons.  Which it might be.  When the Atlantic patch released, it was obvious that the Ironsides would be unusable because it had a level requirement above the level cap.  It wasn't obvious that the Indiaman would be impossible to build because the level cap was too low.

There is some good stuff in the patch.  And also some stuff that would probably be good if it weren't broken by the expansions being released out of order.
