Star Wars: The Old Republic: Lore Advancing in v1.2

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Bioware's Charles Boyd has posted a new article on the Star Wars: The Old Republic blog discussing how the game's story will advance with the deployment of v1.2. The story, Boyd writes, is designed to "shed a bit more light on the state of the galaxy and the ongoing war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire" and will give players a peek at coming events.

The blog piece is packed with potential spoilers so be warned!

I wonder if they will add back in open world PvP before the galactic war is over?

Seems odd to promote the lore of the galactic war at the same time as removing the broken open world PvP of Ilum, sometimes I think Bioware would be better if they lost the sheen of self denial they have. For those at 50 have seen the story and absorbed the lore but cannot live it in game apart from a few instanced war zones and Huttball which hardly has the grandeur of a galactic civil war, a localised disturbance at best.

I giggled when he said "ongoing war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire"

Really the old BW PR boys obviosuly didn't get the censor pen out on this blog did they.

Using a phrase like that within 10 days of as good as saying you dont give a toss about the war,  you wont be focusing on the war,  you might reintroduce a war in the distant future but here you can rated battleground crap.

When he said War, I feel he means the conflict is ongoing during the timeline of the game, not necessarily that you (the player) would be on the front line.  It allows them to add various aspects on existing planets to support the conflict.

I guess my dissappointment is its just a bit more of the same.  Essentially new (side) missions on existing planet.  Great way to expand, but I still crave space exploration and new planets all together.  Probably a pipe dream on my end, but would come back if they ever implemented.

How fast they go with this game! Most of the games today  don't give you expansion like that  for free  and if they do you must wait for year or more. Go bioware go, epic game with epic lore. It is not possible to imagine how they create something huge like that so fast. Man you never get bored in swtor.  Gtg to play now, my speeder is waiting and i know how to find reps they cant hide from me :)

Serious? You cant find open world pvp? Hows that, i am every day in open world pvp. Open world pvp is not some big  planetlike bg with invisible walls and i will explain you how  to pvp in open--Well, our guild get together and we search for example on tatooine for reps., after we kill  few reps this guys spread the news and in 5-10 min we have few rep guilds searching for us and we have for hour or more mass open world pvp. So that is open world pvp, but if you sit in station all day and wait for some miracle you will never expirience open world pvp. Simple as that

And one more :) You must create character on pvp server to enjoy in open world pvp

Ilum was Broken, but it will be back, they gonna redesign IIum completely, same with the opvp, the game will have rewards for killing players in opvp and they was talking about a player bounty system. They have a lot of things for the pvpers in the future.

He is not talking about PVP but on going war as part of story and lore of Star Wars universe.

    /facepalm

Wondering if they worry about pissing people off by having to recreate SWG content in a SWTOR skin. Is the only thing that can save SWTOR, even if the SWG haters deny it.

Now this guy got the memo... This is exactly how you face open world PvP.. Deny the other side some key rescource or just kick the snot out of them until they retaliate. I used to suggest this on the WoW forusm too.. but no-one was very keen on it.. they just liked to lament over old lost glories... I start to see the same thing here. If you want PvP you go out and make some good ol PvP by... you know... Hitting other people in the world... And if you roll on a PvE server you donät really want PvP any way and well then you are SoL.

This have been a good conversation

Lore is a joke in SWTOR because BW could care less about SW canon, much less their own. The only thing that BW focuses on in SWTOR is Raiding & PvP, not PvE. I subscribed for early access and gave them the benefit of the doubt until the patch notes were released for 1.2 in which anyone can see the route BW plans to go with SWTOR.

So, I cancelled my subscription and have no intentions of giving anymore of my money to a game dev company that cares more about short-term gain, rather than long-term profit.

Yeah keyword, the "FUTURE". They had five years to perfect this feature and didn't get it right. Do you honestly believe that all they need to fix this fiasco is MORE time?

Hell with it. Unless they start offering real life bounties on SWTOR staff members, I have no futher interest in this train wreck.

It's a fun game.  I've been playing since release, and my highest character is 38.  It's nice to see they're adding more content, and patching up some areas that need attention.

I like SWTOR, though the server populations always seem low whenever I'm playing. I think it has a lot of potential, and I hope they can ramp it up with the newest patches to keep it going strong. The newest stuff looks pretty promising, with a lot of good updates.

I dont know if they would add Bounties and all around PVP server wide on a PVP server, but that shit wont be seen on a PVE server.

Space game they have mentioned as possibly having more added in the future.

Social aspects as in what? They arent going to wipe planets for folks to build houses/towns. This isnt a game about Uncle Owen, and I seriously doubt they will NGE it to make it so.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

they advertised 100vs100 before launch since launch its been all down hill for open world pvp. Screw up after screw up after screw up. Now they take all the incentive away from it. They really expect people to do wz's 24/7 for months well screw that i can barely even do them for dailies and im so sick of them i dont even bother for that.

Ive been on the test server 1.2 should be called the 3 month behind patch b/c thats really what it is. Ive waited 4 years for this game and im spose to wait longer for open world?

I have no confidence in gabe anymore or the devs. James ohlen may think thier the best pvp team but i sure as hell dont. We still dont have a raid assist the target fwd system i still couldnt get to work on the test server.

I have really loved this game but its just so depressing and sad to me now. I hate gw2 but im honestly looking fwd to it now they seem to have in beta the pvp this game bragged to have live. I dont know if gw2 wil deliver i just know swtor doesnt = (

Why would you care about their profit?

I played it and it was fun during leveling, after that... well, pretty booring, the only challenge the pve content had to offer was due to bugs.... they made it more random.

PvP... with the clunky engine and boring arena design... even huttball, some classes just don`t belong there...

Their world pvp was so bad they took it out... that has to say something... too bad they did it after people exploited it to hell.

As for "THE WAR" i played the trooper story... where you are in the middle of the war.... or you should be, in reality The War is only between voice actors...

They spent too much time on the RPG content and too little on the MMO part of the game.(or they were forced to launch too early)

I agree on Social aspects and a robust space game. But unless your really into PVP, which i am not, the other 2 are a secondary item and are just a nice to have. However, i agree with you on the Space missions, they need to make them more than just me on rails pushing the fire button. i want to fly my ship, not have it flown for me. Also they can add in space exploration, good crafting stuff can come from this, asteroids etc. this leads to the social aspects of the game which at most times i find lacking. There is nothing there for players to really be social. Cantina's and the casino on Nar Shadaa have a great deal of promise, but there is nothing there to do. Pazaak or something along those lines would be good for these zones. just my 2 cents

People who are done with this game, really need to just be done with this game. I understand you feel burned, and don't like it anymore/ever, but *still* you come to the forums, and still post scathing comments about Bioware/EA.

Don't get me wrong, I get it. I am really only having fun with this game still because I duo with my wife, and for me its really more of a pretty great coop game, but when the time comes to move on, I will actually *move on.*

For what its worth, I think the coming changes are good steps in the right direction. This game is fun, but it is a train wreck of poorly managed ideas. 1.2 will help straighten out some of that shoddy execution, and I look forward to the improvements to the game so long as I am playing it.
