player housing and building stuff doesnt make a game a sandbox, if your implying the myland will make the game sandbox..not sure when theis connection to building and sandbox was made but im seeing it a lot lately and it has really nothing to do with eachother since both sandboxes and themeparks could add worldbuilding/playerhousing/ect

There is a lot of mystery surrounding this game, but from the main website:

"Otherland is an action MMORPG based on the virtual reality novels by best-selling author Tad Williams.  Your journey through Otherland will carry you to breathtaking and ever-changing worlds, bursting with incomparable detail thanks to the latest Unreal engine."

"Take part in an epic war in the medieval "Eight Squared" simulation and uncover the secrets of the "Mars" simulation.  Get together with other players in the bars of the "Lambda Mall" to play one of many mini games.  Or use "Myland" to build your own world in which you collect eDNA from the creatures and objects you find and copy them for your own ends."

"in Otherland, you can take direct control of action-packed battles and enjoy the innovative RPG character development system and a rich story laced with numerous cut scenes - without subsciption fees!"

    http://otherland.gamigo.com/

So it will use the Unreal engine, and be either F2P or B2P.  It will have a heavy themepark design with uncovering various secrets and watching numerous cutscenes to tell a predetermined story.  It will also have some sandbox elements to clone what you see in the normal game world and copy/paste it into your own personal world, which is likely separate from the normal game (build your own world, from the website) .. maybe you can invite freinds, sort of like an instanced apartment but on a larger scale .. maybe?

With the "ever changing"  worlds, this makes me wonder if it is just various command nodes being controlled by different groups around the game, changing back and forth constantly.  It doesn't mention anywhere that landscapes could be permanently altered by players...

It seems up for grabs whether it's a full themepark or a hybrid .... but in any case these are the features that a lot of former SWTOR gamers would have wanted (design your own locations / minigames / action packed PVP, etc).  So it sounds like it's worth a try when it comes out, or goes into beta.

It's scheduled for release this year .. but I dunno ... reviewers are calling it far from being complete.  Is it even in beta?

I agree fully with this.  People for some reason think player housing or world building or extensive crafiting makes the game a sandbox.

Drives me nuts seeing the people hype of archeage as a sandbox when in every video you see tons of NPC's with yellow question marks over their head giving players kill 15 mob quests.

Sandboxes are typically void of a story, yet contain lore.  Theres no direction, your dropped into the game world with an understanding of the lore, and set forth making the character you want.

A sandbox doesnt need player housing, building, or even crafting.  I consider DayZ a great example of this.  Your dropped into the world with the lore and the goal:survive..thats it, have fun...do whatever you want.  I wouldnt consider DayZ an RPG and coin it an mmorpg however.

Yes you see a lot of games that are themeparks that are starting to add sandbox elements, archeage is an example of this, as is TSW with its skill and class system.  A step in the right direction but by no means are these game sandboxes.

Oh...just saw this is going to be f2p...too bad =(
