Nothing wrong with your news item, but I think this promotion is rather funny.  The novice sailor's items package has long been in the item mall for $4, and the other packages for $5 each.  And they basically serve the purpose of making it look like there is more stuff in the item mall, and that's about it.

Some of the items in the packages are alternate versions of consumables that are cheap and easy to obtain in large quantities in the game.  The difference between the item mall version and the normal version is that the item mall version isn't tradeable, and doesn't stack with the normal version.

For example, deluxe seafood pizzas function exactly the same as seafood pizzas.  But if you had 50 seafood pizzas and got 10 more, then you could have a stack of 60 seafood pizzas, and still only use one inventory slot.  (Consumables stack up to 200 in inventory, or 999 in the bank.)  But if you had 50 seafood pizzas and got 10 deluxe seafood pizzas, you'd need two separate inventory slots.  So you're probably going to use up the deluxe seafood pizzas quickly jsut to get rid of them.

Most of the rest are one-time use consumables that basically let you use some particular skill at a moderately high rank.  And not an especially useful skill, either.  So maybe you use them up quickly to get rid of them and free inventory space, or maybe you just discard them.

And what about the ship?  In some other games, the term for it is "vendor trash".  Normally when you buy a ship, you ask the shipbuilder to make some adjustments to it in order to get exactly what you want.  If you get a ship from the event, you don't get those adjustments.  So the most sensible thing to do, even if you want some variant on a pinnace, is to vendor the event one and buy a new one from a shipbuilder.

The veil of virtue, reserve food/water, and moon beast's charm would all be mildly nice to have.  But there not a big deal at all.  So the event is basically saying, join now and we'll give you a bunch of free stuff that you probably shouldn't care about.  Which is amusing in a way.  But hey, it got you to make a news item about the game, and that was the real goal, right?

Quizzical, you are a bit unfair. In my opinion it fine this game gets a news here at least.
It is a bit unlucky it came between all the GW2 and ToR threads though.
