but is a cap of 2,000 enough to meet demand from three servers is the question. (especially after this reveal). i am hopeful though.

In the end, during the initial launch period when the game is the most busy. They could simply just cap it at 700 per server and have people enter a queue for WvW, just like how people queue to enter a Server upon login. It's nothing new to MMO players and at least there are other fun things to do in GW2, if WvW is packed and has a 30min queue time.

1st thing that really call my attention to this game.

i was going to buy the game anyway, after all is b2p but i allways thought it was a game to have fun during 2 or 3 weeks and then its done (for me ofc).

But with this, if well implemented (on my view), i might find my home for a while in GW2

but lets wait, see and try it  ;)

I'm loving the scale of keeps and towns in this game.  Finally, a developer that  builds 50 foot walls that actually are 50 feet tall.  Nothing pissed me off more than Warhammer's keeps that were merely 2 or 3 avatar lengths high

There's clearly going to be trash talking, and grudges between guilds if they fight each other in the competitive PVP, and then to have them world together in the world PVP just doesn't seem realistic to me lol. Maybe the competitive PVP will be cross server, but I doubt it.

Of course competetive PvP will be cross-server. It'll even go beyond that. You'll be able to create your own PvP servers with their own rules... Just like in an online FPS. They're aiming for e-sport here. There's even been talk of cross-server guilds or some other way to organize PvP players on a global level.

WvW will be the proper place for "Realm Pride," Competetive PvP is another beast entirely that needs a bit of rethinking. For example, from what I gather you'll be able to create a 1v1 server for guild members only... a duelling/training room for guildies? You'll be able to organize your own tournaments with prizes... It'll be quite different from what battlegrounds in mmos have come to look like.

On a side note...the keep showing in that screenshot is f**ing huge...more like a fortified city with a castle inside. awesome

cant wait! The idea seems very good and sounds like a big extension to what Aion has for their world pvp, adding more objectives and 3 human factions.

Can't wait to play now. Was trying to stay patient, but this blog makes that very difficult :)

Yeah, that castle you see in one of the screenshots is immense and yet people are skeptical about whether WvW will be big enough. Well if this castle looks like it can house it's own 5v5 battleground map, then I think WvW will be large enough. ;-)

WvW actually has more depth to it than I thought it would have. Pretty awesome! When I get tired of regular PvE, I'll just jump into WvW battle for a while.

Haven't followed development closely but with today’s news about the WvWvW I have to say I am very disappointed….. I had assumed this was actually FvFvF.

Now I realize how misinformed and crazy that is but god….why do developers always take PvP an instance it!! (is it really too much to ask for persistent worlds where guilds can hold keeps in the actually game!).

The problem with this set up is after a week or two everything resets and nothing persists.  No different then any other PvP in any other AAA MMO (just larger scale) …..sigh

    More of the same :(

    You are truly weird.

THE most ORIGINAL MMO PvP concept in the past 10 YEARS. And it's "more of the same" to you?

Jeez! Where have you seen servers themselves battling each other ...LIKE EVER?!

I couldn't stop laughing uncontrollably when I first read about it.. I've been thinking how to innovate mmo PvP for YEARS and this so fantastically simple and elegant idea never occured to me. It's simply brilliant!

I suppose a "truly original" PvP for you would be an exact copy od pre-trammel UO done in 3D... Jeez, man get  a grip.

And besides, you have plenty of "persistence" - it's called Realm Pride. You'll have server rankings and whatnots. Servers will be know by their names. Your cry for "persistence" actually translates to having a soccer match with two teams last indefinitely... Does a sport's league have "persistence?" yes it does. But to realise how this works requires some thinking outside of the box.

Jeezus! Just the fact that every server will now have a true character and reputation of its own will be worth its weight in gold!

Yeah i am afrad i agree with you, same happend in WAR, while it was a very fun experience for a while, it lack of persistence... Still, better this than nothing i guess.

It would be funny if in 5 years  people are wining that no one makes theme park MMO's with quests on rails anymore!!

Unless that had to be scaled down due to performance issues or such, but I doubt that, there were videos last year of 100+ players standing and moving in a very small area with no visible lag.

He didn't say up to 100 players, he said over 100 players from each server.

Meh, they changed the OP, before it read 'up to 100 players', now it reads 'hundreds of players'.

They talked about that in some dev chat a while back (might have been the pvp one) they where saying that they where cautiously talking 100 a side but where quitely confident that they could scale the this upwards.

Not many have got 'large scale' right in fact it's been the reason I quit a few games it was just a slide show (Aion was slide show with frequent crashes to desktop).

I think this will be one of the key (if not the key) thing that determines success.

A hundred a side is fine (if it works reasonably smoothly).

Im finding it hard to maintain a healthy degree of sceptisism. Hanging in just. What does it for me is how on the whole they are being quite specific about what they are trying to do and the systems they are putting in place to achieve this.

It appears this is a game based around game systems and there marketing seems to simply be talking about these systems. Compare and contrast this to the more common 'we have a dozen raids at launch' or '1000 hours of voice acting' or the general 'we have more bigger same old same old'.

I was not even interested in GW2.  At all.  I was such a fool.

So if small groups can do things like raid and capture logging camps and suplly areas, plus escort supplies to the front. I must assume if they need to be escorted, then they also can be raided?

Sounds like what WAR was supposed to be.
