i just want to know how this came about ... what was that design meeting like ....

lead designer: alright people we need to come up with some cool races for our game lets hear some ideas

designer 1: alright how about a race that looks like a demon but just personifies sexy, i mean they wear skimpy clothes and hell we can make them girate when casting spells

lead designer: yeah great idea that should bring in the male teen demographic

Designer 2:  how about a cute little bear race, not a lot of games are doing cute little teddy bears!

Lead designer: yeah ok we can go with that ..

Designer 3: how about a race thats hundreds of years old but we make them look like 10 year olds wearing panties and such?

    ....

    ...

    ....

    Lead designer: you're fired gtfo!

Lets be honest, they are cosmetically disguised children.

Why on Earth do you want them to show the extra skin so badly? Is it that important to you that their knickers have been covered up?

I mean... is it? What exactly are we arguing over here? The right to see elin panties?

C'mon...  They are fine as they now. Nothing is lost from the game by a few extra pixels on an elin's ass.

how exactly are they children. western mmo's have fairies are they children too? they have bunny ears for christ sake how more innocent can they be? I'm arguing over the stupidity that some people get offended over pixels in a computer game, its complete madness that something so trivial can offend you.

Because superficial changes like a pair of rabbit ears and a made up name dosen't alter it.

Don't you see though... YOU are arguing over pixels in a computer game...  YOU are arguing passionatly, and calling others stupid, because they like more pixels then you on a elin's ass then you do. It seems YOU are getting very offended by something very trivial.

    Think about that.

Wel i didn't start the stupid arguement, . maybe you should stay in doors just incase you get offended. I couldn't care less if the elin were in the game or not, the point is i hate people who try censor things because they have a problem with it.  When i look at an elin i see nothing sexual maybe you do. maybe thats your dirty secret you cant control.

    Exactly.

Just putting more clothes on an elin shouldn't be such a huge drama.

This is not about beein offended , but a principal thing. Personaly i have nothing against the current version. But i can see the point of all the people that hate beeing told what they may see or not. Same shit here in germany most, violent games are cut beyond recognition when there is blood involved. Tits, half naked children, alien sex all ok but a bit too violent and you have authorities indexing the game (=no sale)

Germany HATE this shit and usualy when a produc gets that treatment we are better of buying it from UK or outside germany to get teh full product not that half cut one.

Guess alot of the feeling arises from there.

The skimpy outfits, the sexy looking avatars, the boob physics and the sexualization of Ellin are NOT art decisions, they are all business decisions.

It's really naive to think otherwise.

They aren't "preteen", derp. Think it's funny that people keep calling them kids. They aren't kids, there are no bigger Elin. They are just a small female race.

I can't believe anyone actually accepts this as a legitimate argument. It's obvious that the aesthetic design- that is, the scantily clad preteen girl- preceeded the lore here. They simply chose to rationalize their design choice after the fact by saying, "Well, that's just as big as they get!"

Also find it funny that no one in the west cares that these characters they consider "preteen" are fighting huge monsters and getting hurt or even killed? Perfect showing of American mentality. We care more about what a kid wears then the fact of them getting hurt or killed.

    a) To my knowledge, there's no permadeath. The character can never "die" in any realistic sense. Furthermore, these characters hardly represent actual people. They don't eat, bathe, sleep, form relationships, have families or friends, etc.

    b) You can go through the history of any culture you'd like, American or otherwise; every culture has its war heroes. The fantasy of being some sort of archetypal alpha male figure is neither unnatural nor immoral. It's genetic.

    c) The setting of this game is so obviously unreal that it creates a detatchment from the death of your character or any character. I've never- not even one time- played an MMO, had my character die, and felt a pang of sorrow or remorse. It's not a real character. It's very obviously not a real character. This transitions to my final point; the design of a preteen girl wearing a skimpy outfit is very real, and very readily imitated. There's nothing fantastic or far fetched about something that looks like a child wearing sexy, revealing clothing. It doesn't require any stretching of the imagination- so that's why the previous Elin design was sick and the violent setting of the game isn't.

Wel i didn't start the stupid arguement,

But you aure as hell have gotten emotionaly involved in it... it jut seems to really matter to you... the right to see elin panties.

i hate people who try censor things because they have a problem with it.

So you would show hardcore porn on a mainstream childrens channel at 4pm? Because that would be no censorship... and you hate ALLLLL censorship right?

Sure it can be wrong and used for dark purposes, but censorship has a legitimate use as well. Any right thinking adult can see that.

Fighting against censorship in certain cases is good and fine, but pick your fights carefully is my advice... arguing to uncensor elin knickers isn't the way too look like you are fighting the good fight.

I edited out the more argumentative part of your rant for clarity.

The law in the US says you are wrong. TERA, and all it's content, IS recognised as art. Legally that is how it is classified and protected.

Whatever other motivations it has or dosen't have is assumption and guess work of the viewer, but that's the very thing at the heart of art :)

i don't find the elin sexy looking maybe you do. and if you do find them sexy looking why do you have a problem with it. is sexy a positive or a negative thing for you? They are not kids you can view them as kids if you want but you're wrong.

I've heard of beauty pagents for children existing, but I've never seen one, for what it's worth. That being said, even the ones I've heard of don't promote the sexualization of the children in any way. The children aren't scored on their sex appeal, it's more an exercise in confidence and preparation. I'm not defending them, but you're making them sound like some kiddy strip club.

I rather they just remove the "race" entirely. Totally kills immersion to see a 8 year old girl fighting side by side by 10 foot giants.

preparation for what? as a non-American looking in i find those beauty pagents disgusting. Ypu have a problem with a silly character in a video game yet see no problem in a beauty pagent with 8 years olds in swimsuits and covered in make up? Then you condemn koreans for their culture. you yanks are mad.

You are assuming it was an artistic decision to be overtly sexual (a bit seedy and morally corrupt in a game imo regardless of reason).  You don't always need to guess motivation, sometimes the context is just wrong, E.G dessing up your 7 year old kids in a sexual manner, and calling it art/fun for the kids.

IN western MMOs fairies typically have adult bone structure, they look like minature (people/adults), that is not the case here at all, you're comparing apples to oranges.

Anime is full of this type of thing (sexualized teens) which is obviously where they've drawn influence.
