That's no MMO. I loved the MW series and was looking forward to this game but it is no MMO. Looks like it's going to be trully a P2W title too.
O rly ? Do you read article before you post or you just bash anything that has F2P attached to it ?
Ekman also promises that while players will be able to buy items with real money, nobody can buy anything that will confer a tactical advantage. “Anything that would affect or give you a tactical advantage, you can’t purchase with real cash. You have to earn that by playing the game,” he says.
Sounds interesting...maybe it can grow into something really big...
"Torquemada... do not implore him for compassion. Torquemada... do not beg him for forgiveness. Torquemada... do not ask him for mercy. Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"
Hells yea... I can't wait to put that ERPPC on my 20ton scout. You's guys gunna be heat shotted!
P2W! Wahoo! I dislike how people always equate F2P with P2W. They are not equal. Course, they sometimes rub up against each other but other times companies know they'll make more by sticking to their scruples.
Sounds interesting...maybe it can grow into something really big...
Never happe, though, I remember playing MW 15 years ago, online. Perpetuum Online was going for the MW Online thing, and I dont think it's working out too well.

Perpettuum was never, at any point, going for a MechWarrior kind of thing. There is only a superficial resemblance. Had they gone for a MechWarrior kind of thing, they would have a LOT more subs than they do.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
It is a 23 minute car trip between the offices of Seven Group and Piranha Games.
The guy that has the mwomercs domain on the other hand - lives on the East Coast - New Brunswick, while the other two are on the West Coast over in Vancouver.
The interesting thing about Jorge is that through him, you find out about Jarheadgames.
So in the end, is it simply a case of local businesses supporting each other - or - is it all just a bunch of friends from college or the like operating several businesses to make it look like there is more there than there is...?
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
soo is this the MW that had legal problems with japan's mecha?? or another MW?
i know of that one legal free MW4 game people play. but i havent heard bugger all on the newer MW that had legal problems with mechs looking like macross or was it gundam... i forget

BattleTech had issues with Harmony Gold over certain mechs/mecha from the Robotech/Macross IP.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
It was Robotech (Macross). The actual lawsuit was YEARS and YEARS old.
This was FASA. They haven't been owned by them in years. And I'm fairly sure (if I brush up on it) that the legality of SPECIFIC mechs in question were removed from circulation.
From what I understand, someone came up with the ideas and sold them both to FASA and Harmony Gold, the Robotech people. Some of the drawings were BLATANTLY false (for example, their treads read Robotech on the feet). FASA was sent a cease and desist in the 80's. That they never took seriously. Harmony Gold wasn't really using the Macross/Robotech stuff during the time. Sometime early 91-92, they came out and laid the smack down. I believe there was a belief that they tried to sell the license to Playmate who then made "exosquad". FASA sued and lost but Playmate was in bed with Harmony Gold and FASA woke the dragon.
Long story short, the ONLY reason that a game would be pulled is if it contains one of the previously pulled models. Any new models were fair game based on the settlement.
Now, if you REALLY want to laugh, you need to realize that the mecha rights in Japan are currently being sued to determine ownership (i.e. Harmony Gold does not REALLY own the rights, thus the settlement is null and void...).
For those really interested:
This is a link to a list of the Unseen or the Mechs lost due to the lawsuit:

That was fasa corp.. and it's not really an issue anymore since they stopped using the "copied" mechs (it was like 10)... battletech (daddy to mw) has what a thousand different mech designs or so now?
The concepts stolen were i believe the defensive bipedals that road on the macross battleship, they only saw air time on defensive scenes and it wasnt for very long so i assume they thought they could get away with it lol.
I'd rather have a robotech universe type mmo, however i love mechwarrior hope it turns out good.
The Veritechs were the main focus of Robotech - whether you were talking the first Macross - Southern Cross - or Invid.
This removed the Stinger, Wasp, Phoenix Hawk, Shadow Hawk, as well as the Singer-Wasp-Phoenix Hawk LAMs - since the Land-Air Mechs, lol...were "veritechs"...

Agree 100%.
I also thought that Dust514 would have been the perfect oportunity to introduce mechs for ground assaults vs. an FPS. The base mechanics are already coded with slots and heat.

Ah i wasn't as familiar with all of battletech, i do remember mechwarrior having quite a few of the destroid concepts but none of the VF. The Destroids were used primarly for defense and on occassion during pinpoint barrier attacks later in the series.
Yep, they were piloted by "the other guys"...lol. They were basically fodder.
Which is a trip, because in BattleTech - it was kind of the reverse. Stingers and Wasps were 20 ton light mechs. The Phoenix Hawk was a 45 ton mech and the Shadow Hawk was a 55 ton mech.
Rifleman was a 60 ton mech - Warhammer was a 70 ton mech. Natasha Kerensky's Warhammer - Wolf's Dragoons - epicness, sheeer epicness. Lots of folks liked the Marauder (basically a Zentraedi Officer's Pod).
Definitely a world of difference in the roles that they generally played in the two universes.
Kind of funny though, Warhammer and Shadow Hawk were always two of my favorite mechs.
Heh, I started playing BattleTech back when it was BattleDroids. I used to come home from school and watch Robotech on TV...have the DVDs of the entire series still.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
I looooove Battletech but since this game has dropped the single player campaign and it is F2P I dunno.... Constant pvp gets old after a while... I wonder if it will even have PVE?
Not sure how I feel about a Mechwarrior 'World of Tanks' which is what this sounds like they are now aiming for. My ideal mmo would have had a persistent galaxy of worlds, factions and gameplay. This might end up a lobby deathmatch with some rpg-lite elements to it.
Loved the warhammer design, but my fav mech was the battlemaster back in the day
Makes you wonder if the Unseen mechs are still off-limits, or if the lawyers will be playing Dueling Cease-and-Desists again.
But yes, as a big fan of both the original Mechwarrior and Multiplayer Battletech clear back on AOL, count me in.
Q. Will the unseen Mechs make it into the game after all?
A. Look forward to a future announcement.
That sounds like they could still be dancing around the lawyers.

It is curious to see the FAQ: http://mwomercs.com/support#faq
Then to see the reference they are proud to be partnering with IGP: http://infinitegamepublishing.com/
IGP...who?
A WHOIS of the domain turns up: Seven Group Data Mgt Co Inc http://www.sevengroup.ca with the IGP site registered David Dreger.
Okay, let's go back to that first site with a WHOIS. It's registered to Donald Bustin.
http://www.piranha-games.com/ is registered to Jorge Desjardins.

While the P2W part is questionable - company says one thing, does another - will have to see...
...the MMO aspect is curious as well. Since in reading, it comes off more as a game lobby game with a ladder than a MMO.

Possible. To me that would completely trash the game. I don't like the instant action/gratification games like LoL. I want depth.
Although, I'm a huge MW/BattleTech fan and would probably buy it anyway because I've been waiting for a "mech" game forever and PO was just EO-lite.
