And notice there is players actually in it, however, I get APB is a F2P game, but it seems to me its more PAY to WIN.

If you like to PvP level, well this is the game for you. I can see this game digging into your pocket book real easy. I never laughed so hard when it came to certain situations in this game, but it does have its bad moments as well.

Now don't get me wrong, I like my fair share of PvP in mmo's, however when it seems that your becoming player content for leveling, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and nerd rage online sets in by smashing into other player vechicles.

Now I don't want to sound like a hypocrite since the game is pretty fun at first, but I do see the same hamster wheel when it comes to player vs player missions.

My question is to any veterans to this game.. What is the secret to playing this game without dropping a dime in it and can it be done? And is it just me that feels APB is a Pay To Win mmo?

Buddy of mine, who has more money than brains, spent $600 on this game since the cash shop opened. Do you think it's a coincidence that he's in the top 5 players in APB for Colby Server?

The "Pay To Win" weapons are AMAZING compared to standard weapons you can earn in-game. It's rather pathetic really.

Pay-to-win is irrelevant when you can do stuff like this.

I can understand this being humor for a while, but there is still a game to be played.

However if stacking trucks is what gives you your kicks for free, I see then why P2W is irrelevant.

I was joking. It sucks if this game is pay-to-win. I can't play it on my computer for some reason so I can't try it out myself. I would suggest you find some other game to play.

That doesn't bode well for Fallen Earth.  I have both APB Reloaded and FE on my computer at the moment, been tooling around in APB a bit getting my arse shot off but having fun.  And I like how seriously they take getting rid of hackers.  They have a thread dedicated to player's youtube clips of cheaters, and they actually pop into the thread from time to time to let everyone know who got banned.  But if I can never be competitive without pulling out my wallet, my wallet stays in my pocket and I'll have to find something else to play.

You don't need to pay 2 win actually. It does seem like that at first though. When I first started playing I was pretty frustrated as well, but then I noticed something. You can basically get all the same items as the paying players, it just takes a while and many have a timestamp (expires after X days). Lucky certain things like upgrades / vehicles don't have this, as they can be very expensive.

So, after some play time / getting the hang of the game, you will notice that once you get some modifications (kevlar / health regen are very nice to have) It becomes a bit easier to compete. Also, playing with groups of people helps lvling become a lot easier. People die quicker, you get more exp, and there's much less games of cat / mouse, or hide / seek which gets very old fast. Also, getting a good vehicle is more beneficial than it seems at first (since you can practically steal any car you want). A good truck can be fast, take heavy damage, and you can do drive-bys with your team, which is very difficult to defend against if you catch the enemy in the open.

All that aside, there are 2 weapons I would highly suggest watching out for.

#1 Rocket Launcher. This weapon is absolutely BS. It's easily the most OP weapon in the whole game. You can get it w/ out using the cash shop, but most players who use one do pay to get it. It can be fired out of cars, has a ridiculous blast radius, and if the enemy has one in close quarters you have almost no chance of winning. I  remember one game where my opponent was wall-hacking with a rocket launcher. The second I'd get anywhere near a corner, she'd pop out from a corner down the hall and blast me w/ a rocket (not directly, but the blast would still kill me). I basically just said screw it, and drove around for a while, as I couldn't even kill her w/ a direct grenade to the chest.

#2 Semi-Auto Rifle. This one is much less obvious, but it's very strong (especially with upgrades). I'ts similar to the sniper rifle, except it has a faster rate of fire, and does less damage. However, where the sniper rifle usually requires 2-3 hits to finish someone off (usually 2 unless they have III kevlar), the semi-auto can usually kill in 3-4 shots, and shoots as fast as a pistol. It can also be fired out of cars (scoped), which is a big advantage.

All the other weapons have clear advantages / disadvantages. The gun you start with (the assault rifle) is actually the most balanced gun in the game, which makes it a lot stronger than you may realize at first. It's just not so good for sniping. If you wanna zerg / close range combat, the SMG or shotgun are very powerful when used correctly, but have crappy range.

    - I could go on w/ more tips, but there you have it. Paying money in this game does give you a good advantage (much easier access to equipment), but the only thing it really gives players that freebies can't have, is access to a LOT more cosmetic options. It sucks being limited to only 3 or so decals on your char, and 7 on your car, when each letter of a font counts as 1 decal.

I don't find APB to be a P2W game, though you definately get advantages by paying the subscription, it doesn't make it that subscription players win. It just lowers the amount of time needed to invest in order to get the items. I have spent no money in cash shop or subscription, and I'm having a great time playing it. I wouldn't be against paying for this game, but I haven't yet.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

Yep apb is entirely pay to win. The dev doesnt even care about the game and their progress since the beginning of development has mainly been adding weapons to be purchased. While they havent done """" for anything else

Its not so much pay to win as pay to skip the grind of leveling up the weapon roles. It takes thousands of kills with 1 weapon type (lets say SMG, but there are 11 or so weapon roles to level) to unlock the 3 slot SMG's for hire inagme with ingame currency (10 day rental) OR you can shell out about $30USD to buy a 3 slot SMG which is permenant but only on the character you bought it for. On this later point what people dont seem to realise is the modifications to put in the 3 slots have to be unlocked via the same weapon role leveling or purchased from other people who have unlocked them Via the A/H. A 3 slot SMG or a no slot SMG do the exact same damage and modifiers only do things like increase magazine size, increase effective max range or speed up rate of fire & all have their downsides.

You can play for free just fine if you are willing to grind it out (pretty much like every other decent F2P MMO) to unlock better weapons and mods. You can unlock all the 1 slot weapons and level 1 mods fairly quickly and level 2 mods on the A/H are not that expensive right now (as opposed to pricing in CB) so an SMG with cooling jacket 2 to speed up the Rate of fire is fairly easily attained and gives a good chance against someone who has unlocked everything. Plus you unlock the preset 2 and 3 modded weapons from leveling contacts which is easy.

That said I dont recomend playing APB:R right now because:

    - Patch 1.5.2 broke matchmaking badly, so as a new player you are going to get matched with people better than you in skill level (Higher Threat levels) and get raped.

    - Patch 1.5.2 broke Threat Level calculation, so now there are people who were Threat level 20+ running around at threat level 3 and of course raping newbies.

    - Patch 1.5.2 had a much vaunted district recomendation system that is meant to put you in districts with people at your skill (threat level) this doesnt work and if you add in the ^above 2 problems as well as a new payer you will get raped.

    - Patch 1.5.2 was supposed to address a lot of the cheats & exploits, it has not.

Overall the game is barely playable now where a month ago it was great except for the occasional cheat.

The only thing that actually makes this game Pay 2 Win IMHO is the asshats paying $20-$30 USD a month for access to the latest APB cheats.

I've been playing apb:r since closed beta and I almost stoped playing after the first day cause it can get REALY frustrating getting killed by the better players. I waited a week and tried the game again. I told myself  this time "I'm going to loose most of the time cause I'm new" and started grinding through the contacts. I started to unlock more cloths, cars, guns, and eventualy character mods. The more I played the better I got and started to win more matches (I'm sure the better guns an mods helped a little). But their is always times when you get match vs a clan that totaly destroys you and makes you feel like your a noob again.

The armas(item shop) only has 1 weapon(Oca "whisper") that quite a few ppl think is slightly overpowered cause of its silenced shooting and longer range then the stock. Other then that all the other weapons are pretty balenced meaning you can get just about the same thing in game with a little work.

I just started the game about 2 weeks ago ....

people saying its pay to win don't know what they are talking about, I use the star 556 (the noobie gun) and actually do better with it than the Ntec which i bought off the marketplace.

Ecoces, it is well known APB is a Pay To Win type of game.

Now your entitled to your opinion and you may kick ass with a crappy noob weapon, however I can gurantee that didn't put that cash shop in the game for buying bunny rabbits and hamsters.

So I am assuming you bought this weapon to drop peeps in a blink of an eye and not just for looks for that amount of cash.

    Example..

Yeah, while I LOVE the fact that this game is F2P, I was absolutely apauled that the guns that you buy are just instapwn weapons. You literally have to go from frontal assault to straight up ambush assasin to even try and attempt to kill someone with a bought gun. Yes, it can be done to where you buy your guns through in game money and pimp them out that way, but it takes ALOT of in game money to do so, and you have to be playing the game alot just to be able to afford the loadouts that people who buy the guns are using. I understand that they made guns non-permanent, but the guns that are permanent that you buy with real cash, HOLY CRAP that is WAY to much for an in-game item. Thats a whole new videogame for the cost of one measly gun.
