I think TOR will be coming out before GW2. So for TOR will do until GW2 comes out. But I really like their story driven focus. So might play both somehow.

I already bought the SWTOR CE.....about 10 seconds after it was announced (Was getting ready for work, drinking my morning coffee).

GW2, I am sure will be a great game, but it's not my thing. Kinda sick of the whole phantasy thing....it's been done to death.

SWTOR is giving me that vibe of fail, so probably GW2.

"The general critical response of Knights of the Old Republic was overwhelmingly positive. KotOR won numerous awards, including Game Developers Choice Awards' game of the year, BAFTA Games Awards' best Xbox game of the year, and Interactive Achievement Awards for best console RPG and best computer RPG.[14] KotOR has seen success as the game of the year from many sources including IGN, GameSpot, Computer Gaming World, PC Gamer, GMR Magazine, The Game Developers Choice Awards, Xbox Magazine, and G4TV.[14] Interactive Achievement Awards awarded it for best story and best character development.[14] IGN gave KotOR additional awards in Best Sound (Xbox category), Best Story (PC category), Xbox RPG Game of the Year 2003, PC RPG Game of the Year 2003, Xbox Game of the Year 2003, PC Game of the Year 2003, and Overall Game of the Year 2003 across all platforms. G4TV's game review show X-Play picked KotOR as the second "best game ever" since the show began.[citation needed] The game is also part of the Xbox Platinum Series/Classics for sales in excess of one million units.[citation needed] In 2007, a story twist within the game was ranked number two in Game Informer's list of the top ten video game twists of all time.[15]"

Hmm I will definately be buying GW2. I had intended to buy SWTOR and get my moneys worth, but after some of the videos and info, I feel it may not be for me. I went against my gut instinct and bought 2 copies of Rift mostly out of boredom and It was a mistake so I think I won't make it again so soon since my gut is sayen pass on SW.

Now if they have a free trial and it scratches an itch and is fun to play, I'll rush right out and nab a couple copies. :D

Edit: In responce to the above post KOTOR was not an MMO and while I will admit it was one of the best RPG's I have played, I look for different things in my MMO's and have more of an expectation since it is asking for a sub. While your defence is valid, people can point out some of the other games that bioware has done that weren't to their likings *cough* Dragon Age 2 *cough*

I don't get it. Now correct me if I am wrong because I never played GW's...but isn't it basically instanced fights? I don't understand how if that is the case that it qualifies as an MMORPG.

Just like I don't get how they say World of Tanks is a MMORPG...it's clearly an FPS.

    GW2 for sure.

As far as ToR goes, I'll wait a month or two and see how it's going, read through tons of player reviews, and then make a decision.

GW1 is an instanced world, ArenaNet never even described it as an MMORPG, they called it a CORPG (competitive online).

GW2 will have a persistent world and is in every way an MMORPG.

It's a fair question to ask, especially if you haven't been following GW2, but let's everybody not derail the thread with what is or what isn't an MMO.

Ah..so basically they fed off the popularity of the first to go ahead and try to make it a full blown MMO and see how it fairs with the current fan base. May have to give it a look then. I was simply under the assumption it was just part 2 of an instanced world rehash. May be interesting to look at then.

P.S. Never followed GW 1 either because I knew it was an instanced game. So completely in the dark on the game. =)

I wouldn't say they fed off the success and went ahead and made it a full blown MMO. GW2 is in every way different than GW1 was except for lore. I'd suggest giving it a brief overview and see if anything they are doing catches your attention. Then I'd suggest getting a drink and a snack because you may be reading a lot more info  about it. I didn't care for GW  but after taking a peek about a year ago at what they were doing, it has consumed my soul. I watch for every scrap of info now.

There are some really good videos on youtube of gameplay as well as overviews and reasons to be interested if you want a quick overview. There is also a thread called everything we know about GW2 in the GW2 section. Good info as long as you don't go too far back in the thread where the asshats have posted a lot of misinformation in their attempts to troll.  Good luck

If you asked me a few months back, I would have said GW2. Now after seeing and reading the latest stuff on SW my answer now is both. As a matter of fact,  last week I pre-ordered SW.

Guild Wars 2 for sure. I am not really interested in SW:TOR at this point in time. Considering that Guild Wars is my favorite all time game, it seems logical to continue with it in GW2.

    GW2 baby!

I will be buying both. I always play two MMOs at a time and with GW2 there is no sub fees so that is a no brainer. SWTOR will probably suck me in more for the long haul with the great story and character development but I get my money out of both of them.

Neither at release, will go over 1 months worth of reviews/gameplay videos and decide after that if I want to sink money into them.

  • FoomerangFoomerang Member UncommonPosts: 5,628

I planned on buying both, but the more I see of GW2, the less inclined I am to buy. I dunno, its just something about that game that looks kind of, juvenile.

  • monarc333monarc333 Member UncommonPosts: 622
Clearly, both. Already bought the CE for SWTOR. As long as the GW CE is just as nice, I'll buy that one too.

Only thing I don't like from what I see so far is the PvP. I have never been big on PvP (Although I do once in a while. Probably about 85% PvE 15% PvP). Wondering if it's going to be a gankfest where I am barely able to enjoy the PvE content.

Well when you start reading more into the game you'll find a few things that will probably make you take a pause.  PvP won't be one of them since GW2 won't have open world pvp ganksessions. PvP is done orderly in a couple ways and ruining your PvE won't be one of them. To be fair to the OP and others we are kinda sidetracking the thread with GW2 info so I'll leave it at this post. Feel free to pm me if you are looking for a specific piece of info and I'll direct you to what I can. See you there :)

As long as I get a chance to try them before release, and that trial does not suck, I plan on preordering both.
