Here are the flaws in the design (afaik)

-one character per server. does that mean one name per server? you cant change your name? Or if you get a bad rep, can you delete your character and start over with a new name? in essence clearing your name

-you still have to do the tutorial, tortage and all the pve crap to get to the endgame pvp which is all anyone cares about

-there is no purpose to pvp, as guild cities are not destroyable, theres no meaningful looting, theres no point in endgame crafting, raids are instanced

-all the pve elements remain where people will be doing pvp. this means spawn camping, mobs interfering, and a pve map layout designed for questing, not fighting

    -unbalanced classes

    -unbalanced levels and gear

Having to start over is a pretty big deal. The main point of having one character slot is indeed reputation. If you ruin that, you have to start over from scratch. No name changes allowed.

No endgame PvP is not what everyone cares about. Some of the lower level PvP is the best in the game. Some people stick to lower level tiers just for that very reason.

PvP is a purpose unto itself. Thats like saying no one should ever do anything fun because something material isn't gained from it.

You must be very new to MMORPG's. Having to PvP in a world with all of the above is what makes things interesting. Maybe you want to PvP in a big square with nothing in it?

    -unbalanced classes

Just like every other MMORPG in existance

    -unbalanced levels and gear

Just like every other MMORPG in existance

So let me get this straight, you want a world devoid of NPC's, with all of the classes being equal (whatever that means) with everyone at the same level with the same gear? lol, I don't know why I even bother responding to such silly posts. I guess Pong is that way ->>>

PVP in MMOs is my thing, but for a game to have truly decent PVP there has to be safeguards in place to prevent the kind of putrid sewage that some players consider PVP from spewing forth and ruining the game for everyone else.  That is, lowbie ganking, griefing, camping, blocking lower levels from advancing, etc.  Just like if we had no laws at all, some people would go around stabbing others in the face for fun, you need a basic system that prevents the most egregious acts of abuse from chasing everyone away but the most sadistic.

If there is not going to be any system of controls in place at all, at least we will be prepared and know what to expect when we skulk forth into the darkness.

It is like talking to them about the original AOC pvp system... all they want to say is ´ oh it will be cool, it will be awesome´.. and everyone who has played other games says ´no, it is exactly what was tried and failed in other games.´     All this talk about player justice and reputation doesn´t matter at all.  People on forums like to think that players will come together and form some kinda code.. but it never works that way.  All that happens is some bored kids will camp low level zones and giggle as they make other players log off.  Eve is the only game who ever did open world pvp right, and it is only because the entire game started out so small that all those éarly levelers´ were basically devs and people with inside access.  The first 1000 players in EVE had vested interest in the long term surivability of the game, they made sure to police themselves.  In AOC, it will be just a bunch of kids looking to play for free.

A month after it launches, there will be 2 dozen players on it who leveled up quickly the first day.

Meh, some just can't get over their grudge against AoC image

Anyway, your example of EVE makes no sense at all, the first 1000 players are THE cause for great pvp right now after 7-8 years? Lol. As if people cared who were around back then or just follow obediently social policing rules that were set up back then. PvP works when the game environment supports it, that's it.

Thanks for the nicely quoteable comment though, will be interesting to see how good your predictive skills are with that '2 dozen after 1 month' quote or that this was just some sensationalist exaggeration image

I love how whenever you disagree with someone, they assume "you must be new to mmorps" or "you must have never played" or "troll" or "go play pong".

Or you don't know what you are talking about? Everyone seems to think their two cents worth of input is valuable. Which it isn't.
