Battlestar Galactica Online: Two Million Registered in Three Months

Battlestar Galactica Online has scored over two million registered players in just over three months of active service. Developers attribute the game's growth to the free-to-play revenue model and to the continuing addition of new features, most notably Colonial and Cylon ships, a Merit system, and the Battlestar Pegasus or Cylon Basestar.

New major content additions include the addition of new tier three “line” ships for both human and Cylon players. The Gungnir joins the Colonial fleet and the Nidhogg joins the Cylons – both are powerful, multi-role attack ships. Basic models of both can be unlocked with Cubits (in-game premium currency), and advanced models can be purchased with Merits, which players earn through gameplay such as helping to destroy enemy outposts.

Both ship names follow the Norse mythology theme, which has been used to name the existing line ships. Gungnir is Odin's spear, and Nidhogg is the main dragon in Norse mythology, which gnaws on the roots of the World Tree. In addition to ongoing game balancing, performance optimization, and general polish, Bigpoint will continue to add new content and features.

Played BSO for a little while. Nothing special about it. The small amount of running around on the "ground" (actually onboard ship such as Galactica) was nothing more then going to get or turn in missions or buy/selling items to a vendor. Locals onboard were very limited.

Space combat was "ok" but did not capture the feel of the recect or past BSG shows. Controls were mouse/keyboard. While that worked it just never felt as smooth as it should.

Bottom line, if you think you might like it try it. Don't expect it to hold your interest for a long time.

Just like EVERY other FTP(except Lotro) and browser based game, I played for about an hour or 2 and have never touched it again or since and do not plan to.  These games remind me of the latest "new" flavor of soda or coffee or some similar 2 second novelty.  They just don't have the IT factor.

Keyword here is "Registered", it means nothing nowadays and only points to their shallow interest in overall numbers rather than what's making them money.

Keypoints here that signal a successful product:

    -Revenue

    -NOT Registrations

Come on MMORPG.com, this isn't news!

    Sorry slightly off track!

This is much like facebook saying that they have X number of users, but how many of them actually still use it!

I tried it briefly. The character creator and the movement reall put me off. Feels very cheap.

If one can look past that they might find the game enjoyable but it didnt' realy capture me.
