I was never a huge pvp fan in darkfall, I just really loved the idea how many skills you could improve on a daily basis but I just have a few questions that I think will make or break the game for me. I need responses from someone who is actually actively playing I know the reasons why i put it down before... those are clear to me.
This offline skill system, how effective is it, say I leave it offline for 8 hours should I expect a significant change in the skill(s) I chose to train? I think its refered to as the meditation system, how does this system work?
Am I going to be ganked constantly again trying to pve in the basic starter areas? I know I am a sheep in wolfs territory but have the wolf decided to leave some area for the sheep to roam at first?
Is there any invisiblity spell or a way to escape conflict, I would end up just making this character an escape artist, snares slows whatever and just run away, I am not looking to pvp just progress my character through pve, however the idea of being in danger at all times does make things more enjoyable?
Are macros still essential to darkfall?
Thanks for your time, please be as detailed as possible, I dont mind reading.

The meditation gains depend on your current skill since everything in the game is raised with diminishing returns. For a new player it is going to be extremely cheap and raise the skill several points in 8 hours. After your skill reaches 75+ it becomes much more expensive and slow but if you are lazy and a casual player like me it is still worth it for the most part.
If you are being ganked constantly than you are not learning your lessons and learning from your mistakes. Keep in mind that everytime that you die it was your fault and there is always something that you can do to either get away or win the fight.
- Pay attention to lag and unnatural sounds. Anything out of the ordinary probably means that someone is coming. Notice fast enough and you should have enough time to get away.
- If PKs are in the area than do not stick around.
- If you die in an specific area more than once than try moving to a different area for a bit (there are safe havens and sweet spots all over the map even when the server is totally busy) http://www.feylines.net/yourmom/
When the game first came out I would camp mobs in discreet spots and was only jumped about once a week or once a day if I was playing all day. The population has gone down since then. Just learn from your mistakes and make friends.
If you just want to flee PVP it will take some practice but can be done pretty easily when you get used to the controls. There are people all over the map who farm safely all day and usually get away when jumped because of the following:
- Do not run in a straight line ever and do not give your back to the enemy. Try and imagine what you look like from behind as you run and hold down sprint while you look side to side causing you to zig-zag sprint which makes a very difficult target (especially if they are using a bow!) and always try and keep cover between you and the enemy by circling around rocks and trees and stuff. If there is no cover than you may want to jump in the air + turn + parry when you hear a projectile approaching or spell being released.
- You can /quit the instant that you hear or see something in the distance or get sudden lag. LOL (thats pretty extreme though but I've been that paranoid when carrying epic loots).
- You can go into water to 'waterlog' but make sure to hit autorun and crouch before you hit /quit
- Keep in mind that if you are logging in the game you have a shield that makes you invulnerable for 2 minutes (you may sprint and jump but THAT IS IT or the shield is gone) so if someone is in front of you, just hit auro-run and log out in 30 seconds and then back in. Repeat this process until you log in without danger nearby.
- Wear headphones and do not listen to music as you play. You will most likely hear them before they hear you.
- Bunny-hopping is the fastest way to escape but is also quite risky because you take lots of fall damage and can die from being hit just once or twice (you'll be moving in a straight line too so hopefully their aim is bad). In Darkfall, you gain momentum when going downhill and jumping right when you land so this means that you can time your jumps to go faster and faster. Be careful not to spam your spacebar because you lose stamina every time you press it (even if you dont jump)! This takes skill to do so practice it and get your timing down to flee enemies the fastest. You will need a spell that launches you forward. The best spell for this is begone (100 greater magic I think? maybe 90?) when you get the skill to 50+. Until then, use shrapnel (70 Greater magic I think?). There are also elemental magic spells to help with this.
- Double-jump makes it easier to dodge AOEs and bunny-hop.
- There are almost always clever hiding spots nearby.
- Always have an escape route in mind when you go anywhere.

Oops . .. I forgot to mention that you should always have major pots hotkeyed and a bluetail runner if you want the best chances of escape but be sure to watch behind you as you flee on a mount (without running into any obstacles of course lol) and keep in mind that if you are going to get away on a mount, you should be heading up hill so that nobody can bunny-hop after you.
Cover is always your best friend. Go out in the open and you will probably die.
Macros are not essential but I would definitely recommend the one which allows you to pull out a shield + 1hd sword with the push of one button. Easily done on a gaming keyboard or can use autohotkey software (legit and not considered cheating). Gaming keyboard is definitely good to have in this game because you can have one button do different things depending on what you are holding which makes things a little easier but I mean most people use a regular keyboard and just parry with their 2-hd weapon since they rarely parry unless caught in a wall of force or something.
Also forgot to mention that if you know that you are going to run from PVP than I would travel with another and have him charge the attackers while you get away (and be sure to be the master looter so that you guys get to keep all the loot and his sacrifice was worth it).

They've changed alignment system completely:
- Once someone goes -100 red, he needs 50 days of praying each day at chaos church, and 100 000 gold, to get back to blue.
- You don't get alignment points for killing other players.
- Reds can't use normal trade chat - it means no trading with allied races, only with your own using "chaos chat".
- People go "gray" for tresspassing in player cities.
It means that no blue player from your own race will kill you. It may not seem like big change, but has far reaching consequences. Basically anti-PK playstyle is now viable, and at least some vets will stay away from newbie areas.
