    Sorry, have to disagree.

AoC was released missing many promised features, even features advertised on the back of the box, took such a high end computer to play that tons of people couldn't enjoy it even on low settings, WaR was an overhyped hollow shell of a game that was also missing promised features, Aion, I didn't play, but my friends who did complained bitterly that about half way to level cap, they just ran out of quests and had to go grind mobs all day long. You left out LOTRO, ran great, was pretty much as advertised, oops, the IP is controled by some seriously straight laced people who do not want the Tolkein universe messed with in any way, so for many MMO fans the one faction, monster play only PVP didn't slice no ice.

So far Rift seems to have none of the problems that helped devistate three games and kept one a niche game mainly for fans of the IP only. Trion actually seems to listen and respond to rational criticism, and so far they seem to have vastly understated how well their game is going to perform in the MMO market. From what I'm seeing this game looks like it may just be on the road to a long and healthy life.

Good post man. Saves me having to type the same thing. I played all three of those games at launch and none of them came close to the Rift experience. Trion have delivered everything they said they would. And you get the impression that they are holding cards in reserve.

Besides the queues, which I am sure are a very high priority to work out, the game couldn't be more bug and problem free. I played 16 hours yesterday. The game crashed twice. In both cases the crash report was sent to Rift and the game client restarted and put me back in the same position in the world in less then a minute! That's nice.

I don't know about running out of quests. I admit to being a bit of a quest and achievement junkie. I've read a few people saying the quests are no better then WoW, but having done the same in that game in the past, I can say that's not the case at all. Both the story and variety are better in Rift. Silverwood, the first major zone on Guardian side, I did 109. I also solved the puzzle, spent a few hours artifact hunting, did enough PVP to get my pvp specialised soul, took part in a lot of Rift defence, and got some nice rewards, and levelled my crafting skills to 100. I'm level 23 and I've spent *shameface* about 32 hours in game so far.

I should say I am more of a PvE fan, but I did find The Codex map a lot of fun in PvP, especially when you get a good group.

Apparenly there are people who are already level 50. All I can say is that for some people obviously the destination is more important than the journey. I've had an absolute blast finding all the little easter eggs hidden away in Silverwood, and I'll be doing the same thing for each zone. For people who say it's a quest on rails system all I can advise is that you get off the rails and take a look around. There are a lot of hidden rewards. One of the best items I own I got from doing something 90% of people probably won't take the time to figure out. :-)

    Cheers,

Go to regulos. I have no que times period. I had only one time that I had to wait in a que and that was day one, for about 5 minutes. Now I haven't even seen a que, and there seems to be enough players around for the game to be enjoyable.

Just wish they would do something about the Warfronts.. They need to pair regulos with a few Full servers, so we can get more WF's going.

Then again most of the time the que for the warfront was not even that long. Just sometimes it is. I noticed this on Seastone while in beta , aswell. So it may not be a server issue at all.  Seastone and briarcliffe were paired in beta, and they seemed to be pretty heavy populated servers.

Well the topic is "How was day 1?" I've posted my impression just above yours. What did you want to know exactly? What do you play? What should we compare it to? WoW? I see from your sig you play/ed that.

All I can give you is an opinion. I'll make it short(ish). Compared to other MMO's I have played in the last 10 years, Rift is the game that most made me feel like when I first played EQ. There are a lot of jaded players on these forums. i'm not one of them. I don't hate the games I once put a lot of energy into which include games I would never play again like WoW, WAR, AoC, Aion, EQ, EQ2, EVE (Ok I do hate EVE a little), and Guild Wars.

Rift is in my opinion the best fantasy MMO game to come along since WoW was released. and will prove that in subscriptions and revenue over the course of 2011. I'm in it for the ride, not the destination, and given my playstyle and time commitments that will be at least 5-6 months. For the money that's all I ask of a game. By then I'm hoping for some TOR or GW2 love.

I just went on steam and bought the game.

Reviews arent telling me anything productive and With star wars being delayed, and guild wars nowhere in sight, there arent many gaming options out there.

Because of the timezone I play from I missed the first couple hours of headstart. By the time I logged I was able to select a server with medium population, roll 3 alts with pretty much the names I wanted and login straight away. Patching didn't take long at all, and I had no issues with it. Just DL'ed the client and was able to patch and login without having to trouble-shoot at all. I've been playing since day one and have not queued at all.

The only issues I've had so far is that the patcher has been updated a couple of times (pretty much every time I've logged in), but that only takes a couple of seconds; and that the servers have been restarted maybe once per play session, normally for no longer than 10 or 20 minutes. To be honest I expect nothing less as they fine-tune the game and patch for small issues before the main release date, and it hasn't significantly impacted on my play experience.

Slightly off topic - my only complaint really thus far has been that Trion seem to have patched out pretty much all the differences between the races (except for one or 2 fluff abilities). Initially during beta they patched out their more "powerful" racial abilities. Then, as I patched the game for the first time I had some time to read the patch notes and noticed one of the very first patches was the removal of the racial stats (some races had +10 dex or str or whatever). I assume this has been done to try and help balance PVP, or satisfy some moaners...but I've got to say...this is one of my pet peeves of modern MMO's...that all the races are exactly the same except for a slightly different skin? Yes, I understand it makes balancing easier if everyone is the same, but ..but tbh...what is the danger of having a race with +10 dex when at max level your equipment is probably adding hundreds of stat points to your base?

I'd like to see the base racial stats make more difference to my character than what armor he is wearing. I want to feel like I'm playing an elf...not a leather cuirass +3.

Anyway, rant over. To the OP. If you roll on a server which is full, you will probably be looking at queues. If you roll on a server which is not, you will probably get away with not having to queue at all.
