General: Titan Confirmed as Blizzard's Next MMO

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

After a leaked game scheduling document hit the game airwaves a week or so ago, Blizzard has remained very tight-lipped about the revelation that 'Titan' is slated as the company's next MMO. Destructoid  was on hand at last weekend's Spike Video Game Awards and cornered  Blizzard Senior VP Frank Pearce and fot him to 'fess up to the fact that Titan is indeed the MMO's name and that it is scheduled to be released in 2013.

"Titan is... the media is not meant to know anything about that. It's our next gen MMO and we've only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we want to leverage the fact that we're working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting – getting some of the best talent in the industry on that."

Doubt it will release in 2013. Blizz won't release something unless it's super polished. I just don't know how they're gonna top WOW. I think Titan is gonna have to be "twitch" style MMO, 3rd person shooter-ish?

  • TheDarkrayneTheDarkrayne Member EpicPosts: 5,297

I doubt they will create anything themselves that will rivel WoW. Most likely a completely different type of game for a different audience.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Not very excited about this solely because they have to appeal to masses... I'm expecting something with higher social interaction compared to WoW, as virtual social porn is the the thing of today, and probably really nice art and music, as usual. My guess is semi-scifi theme, something people can relate to, but futuristic and techonology-ful. I'm also expecting first person view. Question is are they (ultimately) replacing WoW with this or is it supposed to be something completely new. I hope for the latter, as it's otherwise gonna be the same raiding, battleground, arena shizz. Well, these specualtions aren't really any useful...

Titan (pronounced /?ta?t?n/, Ancient Greek: Τ?τ?ν), or Saturn VI, is the largest moon of Saturn, the only natural satellite known to have a dense atmosphere,[8] and the only object other than Earth for which clear evidence of stable bodies of surface liquid has been found.[9]

Titan is the sixth ellipsoidal moon from Saturn. Frequently described as a planet-like moon, Titan has a diameter roughly 50% larger than Earth's moon and is 80% more massive. It is the second-largest moon in the Solar System, after Jupiter's moon Ganymede, and it is larger by volume than the smallest planet, Mercury, although only half as massive. Titan was the first known moon of Saturn, discovered in 1655 by the Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens.[10]

The moon itself is primarily composed of water ice and rocky material. Much as with Venus prior to the Space Age, the dense, opaque atmosphere prevented understanding of Titan's surface until new information accumulated with the arrival of the Cassini–Huygens mission in 2004, including the discovery of liquid hydrocarbon lakes in the satellite's polar regions. These are the only large, stable bodies of surface liquid known to exist anywhere other than Earth. The surface is geologically young; although mountains and several possible cryovolcanoes have been discovered, it is smooth and few impact craters have been discovered.

It will be a scifi MMO.  Your goal as a noob amoeba is too evolve and eventually harness the resources around you and take your place as an advanced lifeform on the hostile planetary body.  Ultimately questing your way to bigger and better loot.

In Greek mythology, the Titans (Greek: Τιτ?ν - Ti-tan; plural: Τιτ?νες - Ti-tânes) were a race of powerful deities, descendants of Gaia and Uranus, that ruled during the legendary Golden Age.

In the first generation of twelve Titans, the males were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius and Iapetus and the females were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea and Themis. The second generation of Titans consisted of Hyperion's children Eos, Helios, and Selene; Coeus's daughters Leto and Asteria; Iapetus's sons Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Menoetius; and Crius's sons Astraeus, Pallas, and Perses.

The role of the Titans as Elder Gods was overthrown by a race of younger gods, the Olympians, in the Titanomachy ("War of the Titans") which effected a mythological paradigm shift that the Greeks may have borrowed from the Ancient Near East.

I hope to the gods one of those statements is a lie...

That is EXACTLY what caught my eye. There is only one way out for that and that would be if this is the unfinished game Ensemble was working on.However since they say it is only a murmur for the sake of hiring, that would tell us it is a from scratch game, correct or not??

I have always seen the cheap design in Blizzards games, that doesn't mattter if people like to play them i know ,i know that already,i am just saying .their products are still cheaply designed.

This is NOT 2010 anymore, for sake of dates,Blizzard has not even got their staff in place and won't for sure until  what??Maybe next April at the earliest? So mid 2011 to a release in 2013?Everyone knows Blizzards tactics,it will surely be the easy Christmas target when people spend money foolishly. So this will be a 2 1/2 year release.

Wait!! that is not all you have to look at.Blizzard has CLAIMED on MANY occassions[Don't make me find some of their quotes and post it ,cus i will]. that they THOROUGHLY test their products, soooooooo that means what??At the VERY best scenario a 2 year product with 6 months testing, that would be 4 mnth Alpha internal and 2 month closed/open betas.

My math is correct is it not??this is their timeline on a quality product??NOT happening,i think i mentioned in my other post on speculation of this game,i said it would no doubt follow Blizzard standards which is low tech, very simple designs,do not expect much in way of content and definitely not a quality game, more the standards of a console product which is line with Diablo/SC/Wow all same low console tech, breaking no boundaries not even up to cureent standards ever on their games.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
