This is a very interesting class to me, or at least what I think of it so far. Seems to combine a couple ideas, that of a scout, a fighter and a mage, making a hit and run type short burst character. Being able to pop into the middle of combat, deliver a blow and a spell, evade a blow, and then "phase" out back to safety.

    [object Window]

This class has my attention, because it seems like you need to really know your class, the battle, the situation. A thinking man[object Window]s character that may take a life time to master.

This class looks great.  Kinda reminds me of the Arcane Mage from Dragon Age.

Apparently the riftstalker is capable of tanking, at least the first few dungeons. For later dungeons or raids, it may prove to be a worthy off-tank!

AND it's a dual-wielding defensive class... VERY interesting.

There is such a thing as evasion tanking. Not saying this class can or can't. Just saying.

I know what evasion tanking is.  The fact still stands that it is a ROGUE, and being the main aggro target for 15sec under a Dodge ability being pressed isnt tanking, its prolonging death with great flare.

LOL who said it would be a 15 second abiltiy?  Could be like a ninja in FF11. Seems like you are comparing it to WoWs rogue. If WoWs rogue can't tank that means this games can't either.

I'm pulling my many years of gaming expiernce together and making an educated guess.  i have no concrete data and i can go to http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Rogue to look up info.   WoW is 1) not the only game to have a rogue, b) that can't tank, and c) have a increase dodge/evasion rate button / clicky / ability.  i havent played FF11 so i have nothing to say on that.

First off I regularly go to Telarapedia.com and there is no info on rift stalker. Also, I must ask why does their rogue need to fit the description of every other rogue out there? That is no fun. And the ninja in FF11 is a perfect example of a non heavy armor wearing tank that uses evasion as their main  way of tanking.  So your first couple statements saying they cannot tank because they are a rogue calling is not really right.

Seeing as this game's talents and abilities and all play exactly like WoW's from http://riftrolebuilder.com/builder/?calling=rogue I don't think there will be a rogue soul for tanking. That would require them to strive away a bit from 99% of all MMOs out there and they do not want that to happen, it would be a disaster.

This comment is hilarious. There are 8 different rogue callings you are insane if you think all 8 are going to play like WoWs one rogue class. Very funny though.

Eh, not exactly. Rogues have LESS viable tanking souls, sure, but there are at least 1-2 of them that can tank. Clerics can tank better, sure. Warriors have more dedicated tanking souls than all the rest, sure. But all Callings can tank, or at least off-tank. Mages have their elemental pets (Earth, Air, Water), and necromancer minions to do this with.

If you're following Rift Rolebuilder you're far behind. That's like 1/4-1/5 of the souls, and its the starting souls AKA the simpler to understand ones.

I mean, this is a game where Mages can heal, Warriors can be reliable healers, and Clerics can fulfill all roles. Yes Rogues can at least off-tank, they just have considerably less options to do so with (whereas Warriors have far far more, and Clerics have a good bit more).

kewl, the pedia is a nice place to start.  I guess since it's their game, they can do whatever they want, but then i dont even see the point in having callings.  If warriors are not the tanks, then i guess mages can be the healers.  I guess too EQ monks were ok tanks, but they wouldn't even be a choice for anything higher then trash, which is again not really tanking or at least anyhting of significant difficulty.

From the pedia in the tanks calling, it says what their role is, tanking.  their is not role in the rogues area to specifically call out that they tank, only that they have a mechanic similar to WoW's rogue.

I think we shouldnt confuse rifts Callings (rogue, warrior, mage, cleric) with traditional mmo roles (healer, dps , tank)  Chloromancer is mage and can heal. Bard is rogue and is a healer too. Shaman and justicar are clerics and the first is a melee dps and the second is a combat healer much like warhammers priest of sigma. Warlord is a warrior and is support. I believe they could pull off a tanking rogue  if they wanted to. Callings seems to be more about use of a particular mechanic (charge for mages, attack for warriors...) than about restricting characters to a predefined role.

Hehe, I was just being sarcastic on that last sentence. But seriously tho, nightblade is the same class as the assassin only that one does fire damage and the other water. Combine all of rogue's and hunter's class three talent specs, abilities, glyphs and whatnot and there you have it. Not saying this is a WoW clone but your arguement of "1 class can't make 8 souls" is kinda off, cause first of all it's 6 talent paths and not 1 class seeing as the rogue calling includes the physical ranged stuff.

He is right. There are a lot of hybrid classes. This game is not just warrios tank, rogues damage, mage spam fire ball, clerics heal. Much more complex and a lot of variety.

Just because there are hybrid classes, doesn't mean they do the jobs equally well.  I'm pretty sure Trion has said that indeed Warriors will be best tanks and Clerics will be best healers while Rogues and Mages will be best DPS.  (I don't have a quote, but i'm pretty sure it's been in interviews.)

Interviews have indeed said that some clerics will have dps skills and some rogues will have tankings skills and some warriors will have heals.   I wouldn't read that as having these classes perform those roles on challenging content.  For example, EQ2's tanks have heals, healers have dps, mage pets can tank, etc.  But when it comes to any serious content, it's  Warriors that primarily  Tank, Rogues and mages that primarily DPS and Healers that heal.
