I just saw this random video about Guild Wars 2, where the person explains Dedicated Healers and Guild Wars 2s lack of them. Found it interesting so I thought I'd share it.

I cant really see why the big hype around this game, and the trailer on YouTube is also very poorly made...

    Sorry guys, but realy??
  • KaledusKaledus Member Posts: 73

Not sure what you have been smoking but those trailers are definitely not poorly made. Besides, why evaluate a game just based off a trailer? There are plenty of other videos from confrences that elaborate on why you would expect this game to be so hyped. I would recommend viewing them before making such snap judgements about something. After all, that is a rather unhealthy habit to pick up. :)

I've updated the hero panel section with a link to the GW2wiki page, didn't want to rip off the images from there. Also added a link to the Commando april fools joke announcement (just because its fun) and a skill compilation video of Thief skills.

Found an error on the main info page.

    Under Atrributes, you put:

    "Attributes

    Power increased attack range"

    Power increases attack damage.

Also is it confirmed that the Charr run on all fours? I haven't seen them run on all fours yet and I've seen every video so you might want to take that out as well. Unless someone can confirm this.

Honestly, I was putting together my dream MMO, and I was looking for a game that would match it... And then I decided to read on Guild Wars 2... And I couldn't believe it... My dream MMO is finally in the making...

You know, I never liked Guild Wars, but Guild Wars 2 is going to be amazing.

I dont see it mentioned here but energy has a big role in GW2 -- more than it did in GW1

    http://www.killtenrats.com/2010/11/29/gw2-interview-on-energy-and-skills-pt-1/

In the beginning of Guild Wars 2 development, there were no resources. Or rather, there was just skill recharge. They wanted to start as simple as humanly possible. After some testing, they decided that they did want another resource to balance encounters and give players some sort of encounter-success measure.  This measure was not really found in the original Guild Wars where the encounters were binary; players either won or wiped. Then the designers went crazy with ideas for resources including resources on skills, items as resources, “bars,” and all sorts of things. After a ton of brainstorming and iteration, they landed on the energy bar.

Unlike Guild Wars, the energy bar in Guild Wars 2 is pretty big

the energy bar loves offensive skills and hates defensive skills. If a player is playing offensively, the energy bar is very easy to manage. It’s when the player goes in to a very defensive mindset that the energy bar starts draining quite fast. This way the energy bar allows for players to kind of choose the difficulty of an encounter. Very easy encounters will barely touch the energy bar, whereas difficult encounters requiring many defensive maneuvers and skills will put a significant dent in the energy bar.

Peters said that energy is like ammo in an first-person shooter. Players really don’t watch it most of the time, but during periods of heavy activity energy becomes an issue. Yet in Guild Wars 2, the more defensive a player is the more the resource is used. So a player rolling around like crazy will burn themselves out pretty quick. A skilled player using rolls very tactically would be fine.

    Potions are also discussed

Cartwright moved on to the very controversial potion subject. Potions are items with a recharge that are used to replenish a significant amount of energy (like 60% of the bar). Potions are very cheap and very abundant, and they are not used to determine success of an encounter. ArenaNet didn’t want a system where it pushed a player to run out of potions in order to make the player lose. However, Cartwright said that potions can be used as another measure of success. Did the player use 3 potions in a fight? None? Potions were another way to let players decide on the difficulty of the encounters they wanted to attempt. When a player goes back to town to dump vendor trash and restock potions, the amount of potions required to restock can be used as a measure of how well the run went.

its seems like auction area is confirmed

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Marketplace

The marketplace can be used to sell and buy items without the need to find a buyer or seller first. While items can only be put up for sale when in-game, it is possible to browse, bid, or cancel auctions and offers when out of-game and logged into a web browser. A sale can be completed whilst the seller is offline, with the coin going into an account bank.[1]

I advice anyone who hasn't to read novels, edge of destiny and ghosts of ascalon. There are major hints of gameplay there, lore, areas and races.

I like the idea of making the marketplace a global thing, not a server based thing. I doubt that it will be hard to sell things in GW2, when the marketplace is global.

Thanks for the continued feedback and info folks.

I've added the latest profession reveal, updated a little of the info about areas being zoned, the higher energy cost of defensive skills and the auction house.

ArenaNet released information about the number of zones present in the game. There will be 25 zones at launch. Figure this number could be added at world details.

Can you give me a source for that?

I updated the post with the info we've recently got about underwater combat and the dungeons.

Are we there yet ? :)

Nice information, I hadn't heard that before!   Anyone have any idea how large the world is compared to other games?
