Show me one mmo not named Second Life that isn't about combat? Every single mmo out there is all about the combat.

It isn't about being solely combat, it's about having other things to break up the monotony. I agree with him, they're way too combat-centric anymore.

I suppose so. I really enjoy AoC's combat so I guess I don't mind it being so combat focused.

Just tried to subscribe AoC. Failed because they don't accept Visa Electron -.-

I'm going to say, it's seriously the animations....the way animations are just rub me the wrong way, especially the running animations, most of the fighting animations and mount animations are well done, it's just the running @_@ ; I don't know why I can't get past it to enjoy this game!

Another reason why I'm not playing, my barbarian really feels like he only has 3-4 useful skills at level 68 :/ two of which are two different levels of cyclone of steel, and a handful of talent skills as "oh noes!" buttons that I can't really use for normal combat.

P.S. I love the whirlwind skill!

Well, Conan did start off in Weird Tales back in the '30s...

I like Conan alot but my computer just can't handle (even worse with Khitai) it so I only dip in occasionally. When I get a better computer I'll be there more...

yup aoc is an amazing game ( and i played since launch) the only reason im not playing now, is because of the high pc requirements... just wait until i get my new computer :)

If they offered a free trial beyond Tortage I would certainly give it a go again.

I heard it has improved but there is no way I would would ever give Funcom another cent without trying it first. They really burnt a lot of players with their lies and broken game. Still the game had its charms.

Love the game, but this is true. It is a complicated attack system. I bought a g13 for it.

However, that g13 has made me so happy with other games. It is just so easy on the hands and fast. It really improved my space combat in SWG for e.g. I didnt realize how much better a joystick was over the keybinds I had.

I third that. I subscribed for a bit about six months ago, but the combat just got old in a hurry. It's essentially the same system as most MMOs, but instead of clicking one button/key per ability, it's 2-5 clicks/key-presses to accomplish the very same thing. It seemed "new" at first, but the sheen wore off very quickly. It's a repetitive stress injury just waiting to happen. I also found the crafting system to be more of a chore than usual, but that really was a secondary concern to the combat issues.

The game has its strong points, but I just found the cons list to be significantly longer than the pros list based on my own personal likes and dislikes.

I'm playing it right now, new player.

The graphics and music are amazing. Quests are well written and interesting. Love the fatalities.

I do get stuck more often then I would like, stumble across lots of clipping issues. The community is terrible, global chat is worse then barrens chat. I wish there was more non combat related stuff to do. I want to decorate a house and visit a brothel.

I'm having fun now, and I think its better then any other games ATM, but I don't know if I will stick around once Rift, Tera and TSW come out. ANd someday World of Darkness.

AoC was something new and fresh, but FailCom failed hard way. I was before the release a die hard fanboy as i was thinking it will be "The game" for me. But the truth doesnt fit with your dreams and imaginations :) Had to learn it hard way.

Besides the failed start i dont like where game development is going to. Its moving more towards PvE grind then PvP, which was my main reason i wanted to play AoC (SEIGES!!!!). But you see what it is now, complete oposite of what it could have been.

I dont know if i am too unforgiving, but i never will play again FailCom games. Even if they will create the game, i wont. Its just me and my opinion. Its like cryptic games if you lost a credibility to create a MMO you wont have any success at least how it should be ;-) Between "should" and "is" there is a great difference.

I to was in the game for opening day, soon left after all the troubles that the game had. I did come black later to try the game again but i was so far behind that i quickly lost interest and moved on.

The caster's combat I can understand, but if you're talking about the melee combat then I have to disagree.

It's definitely a different breed compared with the other MMO's I've played, the fact that how you position yourself can increase your combat effectiveness towards groups significantly as well as that cleverly aligning your combos to make use of the mobs' weak spots, the lesser shielded sides, raises your damage output a lot makes it a very engaging and - to me - addictive experience. The animation and brutal fatalities only completes it as very satisfying combat.

Whilst the melee combat may be seen as not very "innovative", nevertheless Funcom did try to enrich the melee / ranger combat experience more than others did. Which is a step in the right direction.  Its just a shame that Funcom didn't do the same for casters.  That's part of what killed my own enjoyment of the game.  What's the point in evolving only certain classes and leaving others behind in that respect?

Another issue I personally have with AOC is that the combination of playing "catch up" with regards to itemisation / pvp coupled with Funcoms inability to develop content quick enough meant that after 18 months I gave up.  Now, whilst the expansion brought in some elements of MMO's that were sorely needed (Faction system) I felt that this along with 5 zones didn't warrant the cost of the expansion (I have a friend who bought it and whilst the zones are indeed much bigger than the originals, the rest of the world is still inaccessible).  Then of course, there's the expansions main focus on grinding the faction status.  Now I am all for faction systems in MMO's, but I think they should be a secondary focus feature, not the main one for an expansion.

I don't understand why this game isn't just taking off with subscribers. Funcom has really set a new bar in MMO's.

Maybe it will spread word of mouth, maybe they don't have the marketing budget, but Funcom has really created something unique with AOC. The lore is great, the gameplay is fun, the music is incredible, and the graphics are stunning.

    Any ideas?

I wont doubt that AOC's become a solid MMO(albeit it took a while)..

AOC just doesnt appeal to me...at all.Its something I cant put my finger on,but when I played it the 1st time(during launch) and a second time just recently,I just lose interest in it pretty quickly.

Only one starting zone, lots of loading screens, cramped zones with loads of visible and invisible walls everywhere. That's why I don't play it.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I'm playing AoC right now.. it is pretty fun.. i'm having a good time but the higher level I get the less people I see.  It was only 10 bucks to buy the game with a free month so I thought i'd give it a shot for a month.  I'm gonna cancel after the free month tho if I get into FFXIV beta.

I'm thinking about checking this one out soon.  Someone please tell me the age requirement keeps most of the snotnose brats away.  Only don't say it if it ain't true.

While I like Age of conan there are many things to keep potential players away as well as things that deter from resubbing. First of all gamers are a vengful bunch with good memories. Everyone remembers the horrible launch and this will never change. When you talk about AoC with someone the conversation WILL steer towards the launch problems. These days although the game runs alot better and lag atleast for me is very rare the game still requires a more powerful PC that other mmos require. Once you are in the game there are a few problems too although some might not view them as such. First of all something that botherd me is that PvP servers are almost pointless. Its a gankfest and beyond that becouse of the low numbers large scale conflicts arent where they should be in a game like this. Another problem is Tortage  loved by some hated by many. Having this as the only starting area gets painful for altoholics like me. I can breeze through this section very fast but I should have to do this for the 5th time. Once you get out of Tortage the game gets alot better I think, but it also gets alot harder. In WoW, a game I know, group quest very rarely actually require a group to complete. In AoC if you dont have a 6 person group you can forget about completing these things, especially if there is  a boss to kill. This I think is a shock to players who came from easier games. Not only that but since the population is either small or top heavy im still not sure finding groups in Conalls Valley for example can take a very long time. Finally AoC isnt popular becouse even though people know the Conan movies very few actually read the stories and those that have are not automatically gamers so the potential playerbase is alot smaller than in the case of an established GAME universe like Warcraft or Warhammer.
