Ok only played 30 min, but I have some suggestions already

MMOExposedMMOExposed lalal land, DCPosts: 6,257Member Uncommon

I downloaded the trial,

played for 30+ min

and have some suggestions already.

Game seems very buggy on the character creation. This should be fixed. My Character's face didnt even show up.

another thing.

The Lack of Auto Attack, and the dirrectional attack replacement, is a interesting idea. But problem comes in when ANimations start to take control of my character.

The Movement from these attacks should be removed.

Also Mouse Sen-adjustment should be added. Movement with Mouse was a pain in the butt.

Also Smooth out the world. The Invis Walls were little too much.

Buff the Interface. Developers IMO should rework the GUI and make it more player friendly.

Also the Playable Race concept should be changed. (I dont know AoC lore), but at least give us more Skin Colors for all classes, or something along that line.

agree there, so what games did you play before? seems like you have been playing easymode games with mouseclick movements and by the way, what you complain about is seems like you have to adept a little more as a player. As you said 30 min is not an optional time to get use to the game... it is you the player not the game. I find it very easy to get around in this game.

Most of the problems you encountered strike me as something that has more to do with you GFX card or video setting and overall computer performance than the actual game glitching out...

probably should try more than 30 minutes as well....

The fact you have played 30 minutes and apparantly encountered so many invis walls makes me laugh. Specially since the first 30 minutes of AoC is done in the beach area and the amount of invis walls there is very few invis walls.

All of your points are not really valid except the GUI, whis is plain horrible. Then again I haven't seen many mmo's come witha  good ui Original.

well, reading over your post, my thoughts are:

"yes" there are bugs with character creating though I've not had any major issues in a ling time. I do have this "hair" issue when changing my herald of Xotiil (or however one spells it) to demon form and back. That's been there for a bit.

If I'm understanding you correctly you are talking about the crit animations when your character does any number of things like put a sword through the opponent, make a gesture and then pull the sword out? I don't believe you get injured during those animations. Once you get used to the game it becomes second nature.

There are some invisible walls but not a huge amount. And they lessen as you level up. The world becomes more open in certain places and the new expansion does add a very open bit of content.

I don't like the interface and probably need to find a player made one if they exist.

As far as the races, there are dark skin races. They tend to have classes that reflect who they are as a people.

I would say that Stygans are a bit Egyptian, a bit like ancient Egypt, with their ideas of magic and ceremony. They aren't big axe wielding nords, they are intelligent purveyors of the arcane.

Whereas the Barbarians are more like a mixture of Viking and, er... well Cave man comes to mind but that's not it.

It's an interesting world and you might take time to read some of the original books to get to know it better.

The Movement from these attacks should be removed.

     - One of the games selling points is it's unique attack feature / setup.  I agree with the above poster that it sounds like you're talking about the fatalities annimation.  If so, in the options is a spot to turn those off.  Look for mature content which effects the blood and guts portion.

Also Mouse Sen-adjustment should be added. Movement with Mouse was a pain in the butt.

     - I thought there was an area for this.  It has a slide bar, the X/Y rotation box etc....  I use mouse movement all the time and haven't had a problem with it (see below remarks for more on this).

Also Smooth out the world. The Invis Walls were little too much.

     - This complaint falls pretty much under the same heading as 'too many loading screens'.  Something to do with the game engine they originally used.  The Tortage play area is small, mainland stuff is bigger and the new expansion area even bigger.  Truthfully all games have 'em.  Go far enough and you'll run up against the edge of the game world.

Buff the Interface. Developers IMO should rework the GUI and make it more player friendly.

     - On the O-Board is a seperate area for player made GUI's.  Just find one you like and download it.

Also the Playable Race concept should be changed. (I dont know AoC lore), but at least give us more Skin Colors for all classes, or something along that line.

     - The colors are totally in keeping with the lore (and common sense).  It would be like in RL and you're making a character based on someone living in Africa:  Not too many white or yellow colored folks, or a Norseman: won't find a lot of dark browns.  Stygian's are more or less Eygptians, Ag's Roman/Greek and Cim Norseman.

If you played within the last few days, I noticed a diffinite lag problem that hadn't existed before which did effect my movement and firing off my attack specials.

There also is a known bug from way back that has to do with how the hair effects the head color.  I have a dark brown Stygian who's bald.  Usually when I go through a loading screen, my guy comes out with a brown body and white head! LOL!  Why it's never been fixed I couldn't tell you.

My advice, get into the Options, mess around with them and play a bit more.

OP, it sounds to me like the majority of your problems are either your video settings or your rig itself. I just bought this game yesterday (for $10!!, a steal imo) and I have not experienced any of the problems you mentioned. I do agree the UI is just awful, but Im going to head over to the forums as suggested above and check those out.

Before purchasing yesterday, I had played the trial that was offered from file planet a long time ago and reached level 22. It wasnt very enjoyable though because my rig was in need of some serious upgrades. Slow loading, slow texture rendering, choppy animations, etc, etc, the list goes on. I remember loading into the world on the beach, and my shadow was a giant rectangle instead of my outline. Since then I have added a new video card and a bunch of RAM. This time around, playing this game is just incredible. Being able to enjoy all the little details.

Anyway, Im really enjoying this game. I even find it to be a bit challenging. In most games these days while out leveling, there is little to no fear of dying in a PvE enviornment. Im playing this with a friend and we've had our rearends handed to us quite a few times already. We actually have to think about it before pulling, instead of charging in and aoeing everything. Fun stuff.

I think all of his points are valid. The graphics in this game are rough on mid to low end computer which MOST people in the frigging world own. second, the invisible walls are still there later on, past the tutorial, its why the game world feels like a bunch of rooms. No seamless feel.

I also agree with the melee combat being a bit off due to the animations. Ask anyone who pvps with them how they do it, they have to "cheat" if you were by cutting off certain combos midway to get more damage done. Or you have people complaining about people moving away from them while you are stuck in a combat animation and you end up missing due to it.

I thought the race selections were pretty pointless as well. I couldn't tell any real distinction(except the new race, which is obvious) and makes it seem pointless to separate classes into certain races.

The UI is definitely horrible. At least we all agree on that.

Eh? I could see the difference between the races pretty well, especially the Stygians were distinct with their Egyptian look, but also the Cimmerians had a more Norse/Celtic, barbarian look to them.

Also the classes made sense: the stygians more focused into dark magic and the classes going with it while missing the soldier classes, and the Cimmerians and to a lesser degree the Aquilonians staying away from dark magic and the classes going with it, but having the classes that specialise in melee combat. Didn't see any problem with it lorewise too.

I'd be interested to see what the OP's system specs are.

I'd also be interested in his views on the game after he's played rather longer than 30 minutes.

  • JakdstripperJakdstripper logan lake, BCPosts: 2,126Member Uncommon

i have never had any buggs on character creation.

the animation for the combos is a major feature of AoC combat. not only does it look very nice it shows you opponent what combo you'r doing so he may react accordingly. wile it does take some getting used to it is an integral part of how AoC combat works especially when fatalities come into play. AoC is not about how fast you can press 1,2,3 but instead is a chess match where rhythm, positioning, movement and proper sequence prevails.  you have to time your combos correctly in order to land them ( with the animation) , this will take you much longer to learn then 30 minutes.

i agree that mouse sensitivity could be customizable.

the invisible walls are there to stay. the new zones are much better for that.

Noobs are the only ones that use the standard UI, but yes it is horrible.

i disagree, if you give everyone a huge range of skin color then races start to look all the same. as it stands now you can tell just buy looking at a charater what race he is. very distinctive.

Totally agree, in fact I pointed this out in the Good/Bad reviews thread a few threads down from this one when someone asked for a mid-30's game review.

One of the nice things (or bad depending on how you want to take it) is over on the O-boards where not only do you have the player made GUI's listed, but in the New player part is a sticky on how to get the most out of your rig.  It goes step by step on what to do to raise your FPS, what does / doesn't matter etc....

I have to play on Low Default (modified) on the smallest screen size setting in order to get a workable (PvE) game and even then I'm gimped as I can't do any of the 2 step attacks because of screen lag.  Without that sticky I wouldn't have been able to play at all.

Its been 2 friggin years since AoC was launched. You can slash MID range computer from your complaints. What was mid range a year ago is low range now. I have a mid range LAPTOP bought in january and I can run on high graphic settings.

Regarding low range you might be right, dont know. Dont want to play any game on a low range computer.

Your suggestions of more skin colors and differentiation for the races can't happen based on the lore of the Conan universe.  The Conan lore is set in a reimagined pre-medieval era on Earth.  The only non-human creatures in the lore are beasts and demons basically, so you're not going to get any non-human playable races, and their skin tones/customization mirrors the features of the ethnic groups they supposedly become (according to the author's lore).

Those are just terms since what's a high end computer today, may not be next week.   Basically you have a situation where (to use my rig for example) I can play LotRO, DDO, SWG, VO and PotBS all on either Ultra High or High graphics, but am stuck with Low for AoC.  It's really just the way the games setup / built.  Many are still turned away from the spec's even now, just as they were 2 years ago.

And yes, my son had a year old Laptop too that could play AoC at the high setting, or atleast he did until it fried itself. :-)
