Limited Lives

I was thinking, what in an MMO, you had limited lives?

But you could gain extra lives through gameplay.

If you ran out of lives there would be a couple options of what effects it would have.

1.Permadeath.

2.Stat loss. To get rid of the stat loss you'd have to gain lives to bring you back above 0 lives.

There would have to be some balance between how easy it is to die, and to gain extra lives.

    Face of Mankid does this.

You buy clones, and if you run out of them and have no money to autobuy the next, you permadie. There is also a series of hindrances based on your 'criminal points' gained in PvP (and being caught with drugs, etc) that will eventually keep you from buying new clones, then force you to your last life, regardless of how many clones you have banked.

It has the same problem as permadeath. A really cool idea but it only work in large a cybercaffe or similar place where you can run it on a local server. And the GM would have to be able to give you your life back if your computer crashes.

Lag, network problems and crashes sadly prevents this kind of game to be fun. It is well a possibility in the future when the net is more stable and faster but as long as you play on a PC (particularly one with Windows) will the computer crash. And you must be able to prevent people from pulling out the power cable when they are losing.

So: Great idea if you make a game for lans but bad for people playing online.
