I decided to see for myself

I have been following the threads about Vanguard for a while now.  I have read all the comments both pro and con.

I signed up for the trial to see for myself.

Thus far it seems to be interesting.

One thing that does bother me is my framerate.  I can't seem to get it much over 20.  I know I dont have a bleeding edge computer but with what I do have I would have thought I could do better.

I have Win 7, 64 bit dual core 2.7 gig processor, 4 gigs of memory. Nvidia 9500 graphics card.

I have every thing turned down in the options.

My question is am I out of luck with the system I have ?? If so I guess I am out of luck.  The wife has laid down the law about spending any more on the computer :)

you aren't out of luck :D

infact with this guide http://www.offtheisle.com/guides/performance you should be able to push up your fps two-three fold. There are some tweaks, noone knows why exactly just that they are native to the engine, that improve fps quite a bit and i think that guide lists all of them :)

Some settings that give additional speed or extra client stability are in the settings of the game itself:

Disable volumetric clouds from the video tab if on

From the performance tab, disable both occlusions and the 'Use provided shaders' setting.

There is one slightly more challenging thing to do, but at least for me it changed the responsiveness of the client tremendously, check: http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts/list.m?start=29&topic_id=52680
