Haven't you read the thread "are mmo's dead? That answers your question.

Far from it, there are 348 games in this forum, you can expect each one to be extremely active...also free to play and browser based mmorpg are not very popular with the community here.

I think all that could be said has probably been said by now.  I mean how many times can you bash WoW before it gets old?

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Plus you can't talk about grouping versus solo, because that has it's own thread, and no new AAA games are coming out in 2010.

I think it's play FPS or RTS or single player RPGs till 2011.

It's a social networking pandemic; I dont know who started this article but it's been in circuit for a while.

The larger the social network, the more people feel they wont or cant have the best thing to say, which limits people from posting. So, if there are 10,000 people on a social network or forum, it's easier to see people and feel a part of the crowd. However, when a social network reachers a significant amount, those same members will float away.

It's not a matter of dying, it's a matter of people losing their appeal because they feel their input doesn't matter.

I miss the days of posting in a topic and getting on the next day to find like 20 replies and the topic fighting to stay on page one.  Now I can check back 4 hours after I posted something and still be the last person to post in this section. Sadface.

As Twinkie put it anything people say seems to get diluted into the mass that is this forum.  Also as of late the people I remember coming here and posting on similar topics seem to drift away and things you say no longer garner interesting responses that keep you coming back for more.

After a while it's just not the same, or as fun anymore.  It's like playing some of your mmos or other multiplayer games.  If your friends aren't around then it's not as fun.

    Will you be my friend?

But seriously, I have the solution.  If we find OneMuslim and convince him to come back to the forums, then allow religious topics in the regular OT section again, these forums will be hopping again in no time.

Nuts to that.  If he comes back and the Off topic returns to the state it was 10 months ago, I'd more then likely leave for good.

And sure.  I'll be your friend....

If this forum returned to the days before mods were tightwads, then sure, there would be a bunch of idiots posting.  There would also be a lot of stupid/religious/political threads, but at least the forum would be active.  I mean, shit used to be pretty poppin up this bitch, ya mean?  And there was a very active and dedicated core set of members, some of which I still see, but none of which are a tenth as active as they used to be, mainly because things just seem to have grown stal around here to me.

It's kinda funny how things have turned out. You would think an unmoderated forum would blow up with people posting freely. But it's slow in there now, I think people miss being moderated and banned. It gave them a feeling of purpose and importance.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I think the problem isn't the lack of being banned.  I've suffered through way too many 4-month bans, and I love the fact I don't have to watch every word I say anymore.  I think the strong and active core community slowly left and/or became inactive.  I also think the religion and politics should be in the regular OT section, too.  As those topics tend to be very active, it keeps the overall activity up in the rest of the topics as well.  Hell, I've been at work for 8 hours today, and I've periodically checked this forum, among my others, and there have been maybe 10 posts all day.  I really don't know what the deal is to be honest. It seems like with so many members in the community, it wouldn't be so dead around here.

indeed...but to be honest, I am happy about the creation of the religion/politics forum...because ultimately those were the threads that would cause other threads to get bumped off.  This forum was almost nothing but religion and politics until the creation of a separate forum...now you know where to go if you want to read that stuff...reading the blather of the uneducated masses gets really old, and quite frankly I find half of the thread titles to be almost offensive anyway (if only offensively stupid).  So I'm happy to be rid of them.
