Lol ? I was playng eve for quite some time on non-pvp way i was attacked ONCE by my stupid mistake only , i resubscribed again not loong ago and i still play non pvp way and i have 0 problems with situations you subscribe here

probably a so i leave you alone.

I just must say i totally love upcoming changes , especially customizable ships

I love it when people cry about losing ships. Okay. So you go out to 0.0 and instantly get ganked. Right. You're an idiot. Seriously.

Eve is a TEAM game. You're meant to fly around in fleets if you're going pvp. Think of it this way. You're a soldier in hostile territory. You're walking down the road and looking at all the cool stuff. BAM, you get shot in the head, and scream GANKED!

Bottom line is, if you're SMART, you won't get killed. If you're an idiot, then you're just fodder for the rest of us. Is it smart to jump into a 0.0 bottle neck system which is PROBABLY going to have a hostile bubble camp? No. You deserve to lose your stuff if you don't think. Period.

most non-pvpers get fustrated and cancel in just a few months and there are no large non-pvp guilds  if a non-pvp guild gets too large they get war declared on them and become fare game 24/7  this means you either become pvp  or you sit in a station doing nothing for a week (if not more) or you cancel and go to another game where you can play in relative peace.
eve is still a very nitch game that is why they have so few subscribers
STARTREK ONLINE will get more subscribers on their first day than eve has
this new ship construction thing is a direct responce to STO ship system
the wormholes will really only be for PVPers because they will destroy anyone else that isnt a pvp template like them and you can never catch up  you will be stuck with the same noob universe that hasnt changed since release.
EVE looks prety but the universe is dead and boring and the quests are as fun as a tax audit.
some day maby the icelandic brain will thaw out and they will realize how bad they are messing up (not as bad as sony but prety bad)
save your money and wait for STO.

Ive been playing eve since 2004 (4+ years) and i can tell you A. New players can kill older eve players..there is none of the mythical (zomg he has more skillpoints then me oh noez flee),  i have lost ships to cheap frigs and cruisers fielded by newer players.

The so called constant pvp, in a way is true but you cry the fact that new players expect to get ganked as soon as they start. Not true. Unless you do go into low sec on 0.0 space..well thats just an ass kicking waiting to happen. And i would expect to get ganked. low sec and 0 space has better missions and better rewards, but carries higher risks, besides much 0.0 space is either syndicate or alliance controlled so youll get ganked anyhow just because they are defended by any particular entity that roams there unless you have sorted out standings, have a fleet of your own or can scout systems ahead for danger.

The players that do cry about it usually go into low sec and 0 space alone adn do get gangked. Eve highly encourages people to group together, that is how you truly survive and enjoy the game. Eve is not a game that holds your hand and it is harsh and doesnt baby you every step of the way.

As for the game universe not ever changing..Not true either. Weve seen last year just how Goonswarm was able to inflict heavy loses on Band Of Brothers and their coalition. How mercenary corporations can affect an outcome of a war to in regards to the highest bidder. Faction warfare has made high sec pvp more possible besides war's between corps and alliances.  Yes the missions can be somewhat dull, but i have not done a mission in almost  4years, with the amount of things you can do in the universe i never found i had to.

I look f forward to star trek online but the two games are so vastly different that im not to concerned about sto and eve competing head on.

I would check out "Eve University" they are a big alliance that helps players new and old with the game. They are a decent bunch of players so i recommend checking them out. You can find more here http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=521860.

Eve University is a great corp for players new to the game. They will literally teach you anything you could possibly want to know about Eve.

I am biased as I'm currently a member.

Oh, and I'm all tingly thinking abour what CCP has in store for the game (to get this back on topic).

I look forward to getting my hand on next expansion of EVE after the quantum one even if that one also has some goodies for me.

It will be lovely to be able to make customized tech III ships even if I wonder if I can afford it in four more months as I spend all the ISK I had on gallente Kronos marauder and gallente carrier skill book and the new Capital industrial ships skill book last week so I am broke atm.

Brenth did hit the nail on the head in one thing and that is wardec of non-pvp corporation when they get bigger. I did build 20+ corp and as soon as it got to 25 members we got wardec after wardec and as we where not ready for pvp and did not want to hire mercs to give boost to that form of  business in EVE then we where doomed. After the fourth wardec most had left corp and the others were getting very bored of staying in stations most of time so in reality my corp was bankrupt in both members and money.

Now I have only very small corp going and do not recruit any new members which is a shame as we had been very active in  helping new pilot in EVE getting a good start. Well that is part of living in EVE and I have learned one more lesson on how to play EVE.

I love the game, have been playing it for more than 3  years and I will hopefully enjoy it for many more years to come.

Keep up the good work CCP

I play StarQuest cause I like ALWAYS being a character, no matter ship or planet, and I like the RP.

But EVE is a lot better for casual playing, not to mention graphics. If I only have like 30 or 40 minutes, I usually jump on EVE instead.

PvP isn't all that unbalanced in EVE if the noob uses his common sense. I was only in a Punisher and my 10th day of free trial when I first got PvP'd by what this guy is calling a noob jumper, but I had knowingly went into a low sec system, and I used my common sense, and  handed the guy his rear in pieces.

I don't play much, but after 3 years it adds up, and now its the groups of 2 or more I have to watch out for.

Don't listen to "Noobs stay away", try EVE, and use common sense. Its a lot of fun for the casual player, and the graphics are awesome.

((being thats coming from a correspondent from a rival game... its gotta be gospel))

To the griper there are a few thing to note.      I am not the best pilot - I hate PVP in any game especially in one where death means the loss of stuff -  Guess that is how it should be of course -  just don't like to die.

I started Eve a few years ago, built a 40 - 50 member non-pvp newbie corp.   Of course we got war declared. We fought through it, (mostly by hiding)  then got war declared again.  This went on for about 3 months before we all just said the heck with it and broke apart and went our seperate ways.

That's to bad as I really enjoyed that corp.

More recently I have traveled in to 0.0.   YES you loose ships,  even though I normally avoid danger - I have lost a couple (for me) nice ships.  BUT  I can make a lot more money in 0.0 space.    1million credits per kill can add up very quickly :)  Not to mention (as I'm a trader) the totally crazy prices people will pay for stuff on the markets out there.

Oh yeah I never buy insurance.  So far I don't see the point.  I buy ships usually pretty cheap and as a rule I have as much or nearly as much equipment on my ship then  it cost.   Guess that wouldn't be so true for my battleship - but I just hate insurance.   Insurance companies are corrupt evil companies that take all your money and then when it comes to pay up screw you and  scream for a government bail out (opps sorry wrong subject).

I've left the game a few times and returned over the years.   But I always return.    I always get in to the economic side of games and EVE by far has the most advanced market system of any game out there.

Right now my account is canceled for financial reasons - needed to save my 30 dollars a month (had 2 accounts)  - BUT I will be coming back soon.

What exactly does "The catch here is that success or failure in any given quest will actually effect the experience that you have".

Oh and I partially agree with the person who said stay away for new people. Yes, the game has lots of ganking, its PvP oriented. As a pure PvE, i was basically locked out of all the good stuff in 0.4 and lower. Yeah you guys may be lucky and dont see any action, but when I jump in 0.4 and someone starts locking on to me, my heart just sinks in becuase i basically carry all my stuff with me. If i lose my ship, i bump back a week or two. I dont know how to fight, i dont know how to PvP and I can't join any decent corp because my hours are low and irregular (RL comes first).

But, to be fair, you cant say new players should avoid this. New players who preffer PvE should avoid this. But if you dont mind PvP, this game will be for you. Too bad i dont like PvP, i really liked the graphics and the atmosphere of Eve. But, i will never resub again because of CCP dubious conduct regarding ghost training.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Jumpingjax you should read up on the revised game-time system ... buying game time for ISK rather than US$ might be an ideal solution for you.  I love that CCP is trying to enhance that aspect - too many games try to pretend real money trading doesn't exist or is "under control", rather than just putting in appropriate tools such that people who want to go (or need to go) that way can, in safety.

  • SuraknarSuraknar Member UncommonPosts: 852

EVE is a Sandbox, PvP oriented game. It followed on the steps of UO and basically Combined that with the Classic "Elite", and delivered this on an MMOG Platter.

The Game's Premise is amaising, the sheer possibilites are mindblowing. I beta tested it and been playing it on and off since launch.

    Why Off and On? Because,

A - Even with the above said, I find it is not accessible to new players, small groups (guilds) that want to try it, need to play for a year or two before they can accomplish anything, beyond running missions in Empire Space, having Role Play Events or Playing Cat and Mouse with Pirates in Low Sec, (or be Pirates in Low sec themselves).

B - The PvP Combat system, is actually not that enjoyable, itmay sound exciting flying Space ships and formingFleets but in reality it is not and an Engagement can end in Seconds. Even if you have a Battleships, it can blow up in a matter of seconds in combat.

Large Scale Combat is all about Blobing, Small Scale Combat degerates to Nanoing and ECM/ECCM (the equivalent if you will to the mechanics involved with combat known as Crowd Control in more mainstream MMOGs).

You will not experience a prolongued Battle and Opperations in your ships while some battles can rage for days, from the individual's perspective it is more about being lucky and surviving in the Blob encounters than actually shooting and taking fire in a big ship.

    --

That is my biggest disapointment with the Space combat of EVE. There is so many different ways to render your enemy unable to fight you and the ships are so specialised, that you could literally find yourself wearing a smoking in a beach party, or Hooola Shirts and Shorts in the Opera.

And the people who have been there for a long time know the tricks know the gear, and jave both the player Skill and Character Skills and they will enjoy and laugh about blowing you out of the sky and then even watch you being upset about it.

There is a mean people that play that game, I actually laughed when someone said in these comments that EVE has as purpose to keep the psychopaths off the streets, I laughed because it is true to some extent but also because it is usually the perception of mainstream MMOG players when they come in contact with a sandbox PvP oriented game.

In reality, it is part of EVE's world, there is good people and bad people just like in the real world, yet at least, EVE succeeds in offering an alternate world, and not just a themepark game with rides to repeat till your mind become numb.

If in the future they can address the Combat and how it all works to make for some better experience that could be reminescent of what we read in Sci-Fi books or watch in Sci-fi movies (B5, ST, SW etc), then it has most of the other elements to appeal to many many more people.

Till then however, many people will be playing other games, andhoping to find that which they seek in them, I look forward to STO myself, and hope it will offer a better Combat Experience, albeit I am pretty sure it will not offer the premise of EVE.

However, in the end, what many people seek is fun and entertainment, running a Corp of 5000+ people like if it were a full time Job is really not everyone's cup of tea.

Well I read this far and ignore the rest of the post since the baove statement shows the poster does not have a clue. My girl friend is sitting next to me right now. Has done a ton of serious trade and mission running, inlcuding low sec in the 3 months she has been playing. She has been in ZERO PVP action the whole time.
I am running a lot in border regions, sec ratings from 0.4 to 0.1 and have in the last 3 months with this new character seen zero PVP.
Eve does have a ton of PVP but to say you will get ganked as soon as you start is just flat a lie. Oh I am sure a SMALL percentage might have seen some nub attacking them early but a serious gank, sorry but I call BS.

ive sit in the noob astroid fields and watched noobs get scamed and podded by griefers.

if your saying you operated in and out of .1-.4 for 3 months and seen no PVP then you are the lier.

new players do get ganked right in 1.0 astroid fields ive seen both an ore bait scam, and a kamakazi so dont try to tell me it doesnt exist.

many people can only be on for short periods of play and cant sit around for hours waiting for this mythical fleet your talking about even then you can only go where they go and do what they do which 9 times out of 10 its PVP related.

as for a changing universe im talking content not some first person shooter gank fest  how has the content in RENS changed since release?  comets? nebulas? blackholes?   so far the only thing ive seen is retexturing  especially when it comes to non-pvp players stuck in highsec space.

for non-pvpers your basicly traped by the pvpers in the noob area known as highsec space your mining the same 4 low types of noob ore  and forced to pay exorbatant prices to the PVP corps for the higher ores that only their guilds can access   as for 500 million to rent mercinaries thats another PVPer play  for "protecton" money  500 mill would take an average player MONTHS to acumulate  unless they use VISA.

PVPers ruin the casual players enjoyment of eve and forces them to either put up with the limited play or cancel their account and play something else till a casual player friendly game is released, currently that looks like STO  I have my resurvations about STO as well because franchise games are nearly allways very poorly designed taking advantage of fans to make their money.

nasa will walk on mars before eve players will walk on planets,, and as for  ship components  dont hold your breath for this decade.   go back and read some of the early  promises that still havent materilized

the only reason ccp came out with ships with subcomponents  is that star trek online came out with that as a feature first. prople have been requesting stuff like that since eve was released

I just cant believe that ccp is spending so much time on ambulation and new skins and tiny little lights that you rarly see any way  instead of adding content to make the game play better

just what we need is an E&B style space stations,, at east they hade a nice little misson computer

it is true that you can travel for 30-90 minutes only to be podded 5-10 seconds after entering a battle area getting killed in 1-2 shots from a ship that is 10x-20x out of your range.

the ship combat its self is very 2D  for a 3D universe   only a single shield and omni direction guns  and no astroid or planet tactics  so its alot like 2 guys on a football field spraying each other with guns kind of "spray and pray"  oh and  guards have no direct way to protect unarmed ships being escourted, this means that you could have 4 guard battle ships and still be ganked before the battleships can respond.

One of the few MMOs I will still play and would still in the future just kinda burnt out on EVE for a bit though :P I will be back though in time for these new features... good job too bad other MMOs cant take the cue from this game make the game open for always new additions and features

  • FluteFlute Member UncommonPosts: 455

    Brenth ... chill out~!

As for the whole "you'll get PvP'd and ganked!", I've played for years as a casual player ... and never been ganked in safe space.  Maybe because I actually did the tutorial all the way through...

I do like other games' new features prodding older games into making improvements and changes.  WoW has had a lot of features added over the past year due to other games, which without others might never have found their way into the "to do" list rather than languishing on the "wish list".   EVE has added a lot more people-capacity to its corporate structure, so assuming they can keep their US partnership venture throught the current fiscal crunch, I expect to see a real increase in their turn-around rate for implementation of ideas.  Even if they started out as other people's ideas

i highly doubt that will ever happen since the that sort of movement is a core mechanic of the game.
